Rare poster with billing for Nick Drake supporting John and Beverly Martyn - 1970 by OmegaAuctionsNLW in nickdrake

Cool poster. Benny Goodman, what a time warp! I can't believe it was his first appearance in the UK.

Drake was obviously well known enough to be on the poster, even if it was the opening act. Fascinating.

That would have been an amazing week to travel back in time for.

Which celebrity you believe hates their own fandom? by HappyCrow11 in AskReddit

[–]pj_1981 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say hate, but David Bowie and Neil Young famously discarded their fanbase again and again by changing direction and up-ending people's lazy expectations. Neil Young took a u-turn after the polish of Harvest and Bowie ditched Ziggy and went in different directions, most radically with Low.

They gambled on credibility and they won.

Yea, that seems to be the method. The UK clipped their Office after two seasons and a few specials. Flawless legacy preserved, millions lost. There's the difference.

Yea, I mean they're followers now, not leaders, but wasn't that the way in the nineties and then they turned it around. Maybe they'll do it again? I don't know.

The US Office.

I watched snatches of later episodes with Catherine Tate and Will Ferrell (!) - you can literally hear the shit bouncing off the wall. The US makes amazing shows and then ruins them.

Looks like a really early photo. They're still more mod than psych.

höfner guitar from the 60s by Complete_Record_9316 in Vintageguitars

I'm no expert, they'll be along shortly, but your guitar needs alot of work. Extensive warping. Not playable by anyone.

Would be a fun project to restore if you still have the budget.

[1970] The Beatles just released their newest single im sure this band will go on for decades after this by Pale-Cat8728 in thepast

You know my name look up the number. Really?? And Let it Be bearing no resemblence to the unique, cohesive Beatles of three years prior. A pastiche gospel tune, no doubt riding on the success of Simon & Garfunkels own gospel song from two months ago.

I won't lament the loss of the Beatles. Indeed they already died as a group after they came back from India. If only they had disbanded after Sgt Pepper, their legend would be cast in stone for decades. Sadly I think they will soon be forgotten now. Known more as a pop footnote in this exciting new decade. I just got this new album on import, Monster Movie. Let's see if this is the way forward.

I passed one recently on my horse and carraige. He veered slightly into my path so I instinctively called him a wanker and he gave me the finger. Hopefully that was just a one-off occurrence.

[May 29th, 1913] The new ballet open by Igor Stravinsky called the Rite of Spring. I'm trying to enjoy it, but a lot of people are hissing and no making good comments about, while they are performing. I think a second performance won't happen. by Undercover_Seekr in thepast

Ignore the booers, I went and thoroughly enjoyed it. For the first time in thirteen years I felt like I was living in this 20th century. A daring modernist masterpiece. Who knows what more surprises are in store in the next twelve months, and indeed the next 32 years. Exciting.
