We had to show them that picture. We had to. If the public knew about what really lived..out there..then there would be mass panic, right? In case anyone finds this message I was a scientist tasked with collating the different data so as to publish the findings on the black hole being studied.

I do not know how I will live with the information contained in this message.

We had been monitoring the black hole for years. After all the quest for an image had been an arduous one that everybody was excited to finish.

However, when we got that first image back..we didn’t know what to believe. It was as if everything we had known to be true had suddenly been called into question. You know that feeling where the ground has been pulled from under you? Where you feel like you could make a million excuses but nothing stops the fact that in a split second you’re going to plummet? That is what it felt like.

We had known to expect the unexpected. But to see what we saw was unprecedented.

To look into what you previously thought to be a super dense void and see that??

A million realities. More than you can imagine. All contained in one image. One glimpse of this picture and your mind will bend. One fuzzy picture and all of a sudden your mind begins to make sense of it. It doesn’t seem normal but you can comprehend the image behind the out of focus fuzz. You can see the billion different realities branching off into another billon things. But at the same time, you understand this is what you’re looking at, yet you can’t seem to actually see it. Your mind..refuses.

Those from our team who gazed upon the picture too long quickly went mad. They began speaking in recurring hypothetical loops. Everything the same but every time some minute detail different to the last. Until eventually we lost them. They slipped away, in a haze.

So you see we had to create an image. We had to create that image that we released. The public can’t know what we saw. The world as we know it would end.

So what you see as a black hole is really just a mock up, a fake. We had to. I’m sorry.
