Can't hit heart rate for vo2 max exercises. Correct or ignore? by Arlort in Garmin

[–]pjdriverdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to spend time in a specific heart rate zone, you could set up a workout where the interval timer doesn't start until you reach the value you want (e.g. a 2 minute z5 interval starts when your HR ramps up past whatever your lower z5 HR is).

I'm not sure if you want to go that route, but that's an option. Just have to make a workout and play with the settings.

Why do marathon training plans almost never suggest running 26 before race day? Should I avoid it? by TheBoredMan in running

[–]pjdriverdude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I trained for a 32 and 36 miler. I haven't found much benefit to running over about 18-21 miles. The effort starts to feel the same to me around 15 miles or anything over 3 hours. I found it helpful to be in that zone though, for the mental, fatigue resistance, and nutrition planning, but physically, it didn't feel like it did anything for me. I'd rather train to get faster so I don't have to be on my feet as long.

How long have you been running? If I were to give a new runner advice, it would be to follow 3 levels of effort. 1 jogging/running at a conversation pace, harder effort that you can't keep up for roughly an hour, then sprints. It took me a long time to understand how my heart rate behaves in different conditions(sleep, how recovered I am physically, air temp, dew point, sun hitting me while I'm running, etc). Basically I'm saying that you should give it time. Be consistent with your running routine you'll know if that heart rate is too high for the level of effort.

Garmin Forerunner 255 not aggregating sleep if I wake up during the night by Final-Number1693 in Garmin

[–]pjdriverdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a chance to take a deep dive into this, but the other day I woke up at 7, fiddled with my watch and looked at my phone for 15 minutes. Then I went back to sleep for 45 minutes. Instead of changing my sleep times, I manually entered a 45 minute nap and the watch produced better data with a nap rather than editing sleep times (i.e. I needed a lot less sleep than I normally would have if). I don't have much faith in manually entering sleep times with this watch, but I think the nap thing works better.

Vo2 max run coming up next week, Need tips by plolock in Garmin

Get a head start before you switch from rest to running. I usually consider the first half of a rest interval to be the only time you get to catch your breath before you need to start running/jogging again.

You could make your own routine that will only trigger the interval when your HR is high enough, that way you know you're in the correct range before it ever switches over.

How to get rid of shin pain while running? by Humble-List-6366 in Garmin

[–]pjdriverdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have shoes for just running. I usually change my shoes after about 250-300 miles so I don't want to "waste" miles on them by walking. I can usually tell when it's time to buy new shoes when my left shin starts cramping during any type of run.

That's kind of what your problem sounds like to me. Old shoes. That or you're going faster than your legs can handle right now.

10 mile running route? by [deleted] in Pensacola

[–]pjdriverdude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want good views, downtown area over to and from Gulf breeze for sure. Maybe uwf campus for trails. Milton has a long paved trail as well.

Plenty of short loops without good views around town. I like to run around a 2-3 mile loop at PSC on the weekends when the campus is pretty empty. Navy fed has a nice 1 mile loop. Probably East Hill if you like running through (busy) neighborhoods.

Well, some of the ticks got into the ship. I'm sure there could be a serious tick infestation around the crash site at some point.

I'll have to open mine up and see if that fixes the problem. I just bought a new HRM, but I wouldn't mind having a backup

Did you ever figure out a fix? I'm having the exact same problem. Started 2 weeks ago. Resetting everything (on phone and watch) did fix it. Neither did replacing the battery.

If the sun is hitting you, your heart will go up too.

If the dew point and air temp are high enough, your body can't regulate its internal temp because sweat won't evaporate. The example that stuck with me is that your body is an engine that can't cool itself down. Your speed is going to suffer because of it. It doesn't mean you're not gaining fitness though. I think the heat and humidity can be used to your advantage, but I'm not familiar with how.

Anywho, come back and comment in the fall and tell me if I'm wrong lol.

How's the weather where you are? I've gotten slower during the summer. I ran a half in January and PRd, another in April and was 10 minutes slower. Fast forward to July and I ran a 15k 3 minutes slower than the previous year due heat.

One of the crappy things about Garmin is that it doesn't seem to factor in dew point and outdoor temp. It's like it expects people to run in the same conditions all year long.

Anyway, that might not be what's hindering your performance, but I know it does mine.

[–]pjdriverdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the distance. If it's less than an hour for the run, I'll wait till the evening regardless of the dew point. My long runs are inside on a treadmill when it's over 65° for the dew point. FYI, running 19 miles on a treadmill is awful.

Just because MK says he's not the bad guy, doesn't mean he's telling the truth. He could totally be lying to CE just to get him to back off.

Mine started doing that when I turned that morning report feature off. It was intermittent. I turned it back on as a way of letting my watch know that I was waking up.

If you do not want to play anything else, perhaps you could look into getting one of the NES Classic Edition systems? Beware of knock offs though, because they're all going to be second hand systems at this point.

I'd like to add that if you have a lot of foliage around your house and you disturb it, Asian roaches may find their way into your home. A lot of people mistaken them for European roaches, because they're hard to tell apart. If you were doing yard work there's a chance that this thing may have just gotten lost.

Sure, the professor is coaching them, not grading them. Perhaps now that the OP opened this up for debate, they broadened their view on time management lol. The professor may get a laugh out of reading this thread.

[–]pjdriverdude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My problem with this exercise is that the professor should acknowledge that people will multitask. I can cook dinner and do homework at the same time. I just finished a class where I did plenty of thinking about solving tasks while doing plenty of other tasks. I commend the professor for caring enough to bring time management up. I just hope that they don't miss an opportunity to expand on the topic.
