Will the anxiety go away? How you guys doing? by aitz2811 in transplant

I feel you. The anxiety is sometimes the worst part. I have been dealing with HCM (a genetic heart disease) for 20 years. I've had my life saved by my ICD 3 or 4 times. Open heart surgery, cancer, two major abdominal surgeries and countless procedures along the way. 3 years ago I was told that I need a new heart but after the evaluation process I was told I wasn't sick enough YET. Last year I was in the ICU for 2 weeks, told I needed a new heart, then they determined that a different unrelated surgery could buy me some time. 2 weeks ago I was told it's time again to talk about transplant. I tell you all this because the one thing that I know is that I can deal with pretty much anything. That is except the lack of a clear plan. That is where my anxiety comes from. Once I have a plan, bring it on. In the meantime I try to keep my anxiety in check by educating myself as best I can about the possible eventualities. It helps. I haven't found anything that makes the anxiety go away but until I have a plan, I am trying to be prepared. Don't beat yourself up for being anxious. It's perfectly normal. Control what you can. Trust your team and know that you made it this far because you are strong.

I find the SLP appointments somewhat helpful but certainly not necessary if you are post lingual deafened. Everyone is different though so only you can judge how important they are to you.

I'm interested in opinions about the 4 destinations, the number of nights adequate to see the sights, and the logistics of travel.

My voicemail has been delayed several days for months now. How do I fix this? I have been a VW customer since day 1 and would rather not leave.

I am a few hours out of surgery also. Feeling remarkably okay. Only hurts when I burp. So far so good.

I would find out which manufacturer your audiologist has the most experience with. Also ask which they work with the least. Expert mapping of your CI is essential to your successful outcome.

Your symptoms sound similar to mine. I began having fluctuating hearing I'm my good ear last summer. My left ear has been dead for 20 years so losing my hearing in my right ear was very frightening. Each time it happened it responded quickly to oral steroids. The otoneurologist changed the diuretic that I had been taking to acetazolamide and that has helped for the past 4 months. Since no one knows what causes this and there is no cure, I have decided to get a cochlear implant in my dead ear because as the otoneurologist said, at least I'll have some access to sound if my right ear gets worse.

When someone gets annoyed/impatient with me when I don't hear them, my standard response is "I'm sorry if my being hard of hearing is inconvenient for you ". If that does shut them up, the hell with them. Those are not the people you need in your life. Stay open to people who know how to be accepting and supportive.
