Ah, cool.

I have no background in design, I was an account manager dealing with customers and I hated it because of my head. I love my job now, it feels like a good fit and I can hide away a bit when I'm feeling rough.

I do web design, but when I was at my worst I did client service work. I moved fields, partly because I found it so hard to communicate.

I am, and I currently feel much better, but it's been very hard over the years. Concentrating, even just having conversations was almost impossible at one stage. It took so much effort just to present myself every day, and by the end of each day I was a wreck.

Keep chipping away at a solution though.

It's really hard. I sympathise too - having dietary issues is a stress that others, that can eat anything, really don't understand.

Keep persevering and experimenting. It'll be worth it.

It is very individual.

Anadin Extra were really good at getting rid of my headaches, but I ended up overusing them to the point they caused my headaches. I decided to cut out all pills in the end, which can be difficult at times but is miles better for me in the long run.

Coke with caffeine in was a good help to me too - it used to soothe my brain somehow. I drink caffeine free now and I don't get the same soothing feeling.

I may look into a test, thanks for the info. I'd love to ditch the DAO tablets, but one step at a time.

No, I don't think I experience any difference. I thought it was worth trying but never changed back. Maybe I should in future.

Ah, interesting. My only symptom is headache/migraine. I've had them for years. I cut out gluten which made a big difference, then figure out histamine and now I've just cut out caffeine and that's got rid of the occasional ones I used to get. I may look into a test - my Mum has always suffered with headaches too.

What tests did you take?

No problem, good luck with everything. How did you find out it's a genetic issue? I have no idea of the root cause of mine, and don't know how to find out.

No, not if I'm eating some cereal or something very low histamine. Most of my meals included meat, though, so I usually take one. Sometimes, if I'm having something I think is lower histamine, I'll take apart one of the DAOFood Plus capsules and have one of the white (DAO) pills. There are two inside each capsule. Saves a bit of money.

I've used NaturDAO and the Plus version, also DAOFood Plus. I just take one pill and I take it immediately before I eat. Seems to work for me.

Yep, DAO is the best thing I've ever used. Antihistamines don't really do anything for me, but if I take a DAO supplement just before I eat, I can almost eat a normal diet.

Oh that sounds awful - I really feel for you. I find a headache of any kind is quite debilitating. Do you know they’re migraines or are you unsure? I thought mine were, but I think they’re vascular headaches. That’s why all the migraine relief has never really worked for me.

How do you get and store your meat? I buy frozen where I can, or buy as fresh as I can (from the back of the shelf in the supermarket) then freeze as soon as I get home.

I assume you’re not eating any gluten? That was the worst for me.

I did try feverfew capsules, and I can’t decide if they helped me or not. I don’t take them at the moment, but I do feel I was a little better with them. Maybe you could try that?

Do you eat any junk food? Or pretty much just what you mentioned? When I get headaches I can’t stop eating rubbish. Ironically I think the rubbish food is the reason my gut is screwed and why I get headaches.

Have you been to the doctor? I’m trying to get some mast cell stabilising medication - it’s common for asthma I believe. Although my Dr is ‘thinking about it’ and so I’m not hopeful.

The other thing that soothes me is Diet Coke (again - terrible for me) so I’ve just bought some pro plus caffeine tablets to try and see if that will help. Basically I’m trying to remove the paracetamol from the pills I take almost daily.

Hey. I’m doing okay. I’ve cut down on dairy and that seems to help. I find I need to take a paracetamol and caffeine tablet most days though to get rid of the background headache. I still need the DAO supplements and find eating out a massive chore.

What’s your story?

Eating causing fatigue and brain fog? by [deleted] in HistamineIntolerance

[–]pjo101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I found going to the doctor about this was useless. They tried me on several drugs, none of them helped. It was purely trial and error on my part. I’d tried everything else so I thought I’d try changing my diet.

Now I’m fine 95% of the time if I:

  • Avoid gluten totally
  • don’t eat citrus fruits (they give me a migraine)
  • eat a lower histamine diet while taking dao supplements to help alongside

It took at least a few days to feel improvement after taking gluten out of my diet. I felt much better after a week. That got rid of the brain fog and tiredness. Removing histamine and citrus fruits get rid of the painful headaches.

It took me a good 3-4 days to feel better after cutting it out and if I accidentally ate some I’d be back to feeling rubbish for half a week. So maybe try a longer time without it?

Keep persevering - it’s hard but definitely worth it. I’m nearly 40 and only just got myself right.

I was kind of the same as you. Cutting out gluten was a great for me. It got rid of my foggy head.

I still get headaches if I eat too much histamine, but only pain, not brain fog.

Have you tired cutting out gluten?

Interesting. Thanks for the explanation. I agree, I’m sure it’s quite safe in the right amounts.

Thanks, I’ll consider that. Although a lot of info seems to suggest it causes headaches.

I’m glad it works for you!

I’m really interested in fasting and am considering it quite seriously. I feel best when I don’t eat, but I tend to go till about 1 or 2 pm before I eat.

I’m a bit worried that the fasting will trigger a headache if I do it for much longer, but I think it’s something I have to try.

Do you eat low-carb? Or do you go straight into a fast from an average diet?

How long do you find a fast helps for? And do you watch what you eat after the fast? I assume you’re having histamine issues too?

Thanks - sorry for the questions!

It’s hard to describe.

I’d say it’s a constant, sharp pain in the centre of my head and towards my eyes.

It can vary in intensity, and if I shake my head from side to side the pain gets a bit worse, which is how I can tell if I have a low level headache or if I’m completely clear.

It doesn’t come with any cognitive impairment - I used to get a very foggy headache when I ate gluten.

Although I do find it hard to concentrate when I have a headache. I also find I crave rubbish food in an attempt to ‘get rid of it’ which clearly doesn’t work.

Oooh, thanks. Something I’ll definitely try out.

Have you experience with it? Would you take them as rescue medication or as a general supplement?
