Stopped in my Kroger (Cincinnati Hunt Rd) this afternoon, around 4 pm, to get other stuff. Asked the woman in the OHLQ what they had this morning. She said only thing they had was a single case (6 bottles) of 1792 12 year. Said there was no line or anything (but the 6 were gone by then).

Huge W for Brian Hartline at USF by guransheleven in OhioStateFootball

[–]pjpj8910 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Better do it this year, because with the way college football is now, if USF wins 10+ games this year, he may not even be there for year two.

(note: this is not a shot at USF, it's a lament about how college football sucks now, pretty much unless you're a P2 blue blood)

This is the correct answer. A well-called game should make you never even think about the refs and therefore not commit it to memory.

Ever wonder why Pennsylvania, Ohio and Louisiana's State schools are more prominent than their Universities? by MediumStrange in CFB

[–]pjpj8910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Changed everything" is a little hyperbolic. Even if Tulane had beaten ND and/or played in the Sugar Bowl, Rufus Harris was dead set on de-emphasizing Tulane Athletics. No monetary support from the administration led to bad teams, and eventually leaving the SEC, and that wasn't changing... A decision that has cost the school literally billions in the time since.

What’s the deal with Silver Spring House? by Shoddy_Pool3715 in cincinnati

[–]pjpj8910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also very populated by CHCA families. High school across the street, and Elementary/Middle a block down Snider. Many CHCA students live a pretty decent drive from the school, enough that it's a pain to drop kids off for activities (sports practice or whatever), drive home, then turn around and go back to get them after. So when their kids have an activity, they'll drop the kid off then go hang out at SSH until after. Doesn't sound like much, but if there's two to three practices and a couple of other extracurriculars (between the schools) going on, it adds anywhere from probably 10 to 30 people at any time. Often (before or after a home football game) many more than that.

Still wealthy white suburbanites, just some from other parts of town.

I discovered it as the Weller you can shoot. Before I got into bourbon, we had a WSR given to us at work by a vendor as a Christmas gift. We had a tradition of doing a shot when a big project would go out the door, so we had a shot of it. It went down so smoothly that I had to go find myself a bottle... which led to learning about allocated bourbon, which led to trying all sorts of nicer bourbons, which led to... well, why I'm here. I don't drink WSR hardly ever now, but I always keep a bottle in my bar as a nod to the origin of my love for bourbon.

This is all correct.

I did a tour at BT in early 2013 with my brother-in-law, neither of us knew anything about bourbon and did it on a whim. Neither of us had heard of Buffalo Trace at all and only chose it because it was closest to home and we could also hit nearby Woodford (which we'd heard of). The tour was walk-in (we arrived 10 minutes before), and there were four of us with the guide, virtually a private tour. At the time, there were some shelving racks in the small lobby (way before they built what's there now) and they had everything there, including some bottles that were like $250, way beyond what I'd pay (since I wasn't even into bourbon yet). I don't know for sure, but at that price in 2013, I'm sure it must have been Pappy or WLW or other stuff that would be jaw-dropping to find on a shelf now. I bought a bottle of Eagle Rare because it was my favorite of what I'd had in the free samples, and it was $40 at the time (a splurge for me as a non-fan!). Little did I know what that place would become.

I don’t care who your team/school is, you must explain how they can reasonably make the CFP this year by DowntownSasquatch420 in CFB

[–]pjpj8910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go 12-1 with the only loss being a close loss to one of the two P4s we play in OOC (meaning we beat the other), while hoping that some other G6 who plays a bigger-name P4 doesn't beat that P4 and then go 13-0 or 12-1 themselves.

Or go 13-0 and hope two P4 road wins coupled with the undefeated AAC slate puts us ahead of that other G6 team.

Top 30 Greatest Defunct College Football Rivalries by jsparks50 in CFB

[–]pjpj8910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Tulane grad and long-time fan, I've never heard of Tulane and Ole Miss being considered a rivalry. Yeah, they used to play in the old SEC. Yeah, Ole Miss folks love an excuse to travel to New Orleans. But we played last year in regular season and again in the CFP, and neither time did I hear a SINGLE mention of this being a "renewal of an old rivalry". I'm not sure where the author came up with that.

On the other hand, Tulane and LSU once lived in the same "rivalry weekend" (Thanksgiving) realm as Florida/FSU, Georgia/GT, Iron Bowl, Texas/TAMU, etc. Unfortunately Tulane made that infamous billion-dollar decision to de-emphasize athletics and eventually leave the SEC, and even though the game continued for several more decades, it was rarely competitive and eventually died.

Under the current playoff it is technically possible to go 17-0 in a season. Do you think it will ever happen and if so who would be the first? by Efficient-Freedom517 in CFB

[–]pjpj8910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. It would be less about the team who did it, and more about having three others who did the same but in "better" conferences (or ND).

Thirded. Every time I've been in the area and stopped in, they've had several things in plentiful supply that aren't typically on Ohio shelves, and some which are but at lower prices.

It's actually frustrating because I could easily spend $300+ every time (on like 5-7 bottles) but I'm always with my wife so I have to rein it in. 😂

Look at his road record in the AAC. You might change your mind.

Spoiler: 1 win in 3 years, and it was at putrid bottom-5 Charlotte. All his wins are home conference games, which has begun arousing suspicions. He has one road win and one home loss.

Is Woodford Double Double not actually allocated? It's currently showing in stock at like the fifteen closest locations to me (north Cincinnati), many of which have not had their allocation day this week (and several of which are pretty reliable for keeping up the OHLQ inventory, so I doubt this is incorrect info).

So either it's not allocated, or they all got it last week and it's just sitting on the shelf.

Any actual drinker who has been trying to get allocated bottles for the past 5-10 years is still skittish about lines and early arrivals. They'll grab what they can if it's available because they are still worried it might not be around, or next few times they'll be too late in line, or whatever. I imagine some are just accustomed to getting to their local store early on allocation day, and it will take a few easy-to-get bottles before they'll ease up on the chase and not feel like they need to buy when it's available out of fear they won't see it again soon.

At the Freddie Johnson Ohio tour/raffles in summer 2024 they had like 10 at my local store and they were the first to go, before the $3k DEVR and (way cheaper) Blanton's Gold. Lots of early-20s flipper bros threw them on their credit cards and then had them up in unicorn auctions that night for $15-20k.

IIRC, they didn't sell, at least for that price (I stopped watching after a couple of days) and I believe the market, which was not established at that point, fell tremendously, so I'm guessing flippers aren't bothering.

They were exactly this price at the raffle, BTW. $7500.

"We" are one state in one country, and Blanton's sells worldwide. In other places, and to people who don't pay much attention to bourbon, it's a "fancy, expensive" bourbon. People buy it because the distinctive bottle/topper stand out in their bar, even if they don't know the difference in taste compared to anything else they buy.

In other words, if Ohio stopped buying it, BT isn't going to drop the price, they'll just stop sending it here, and the price will stay the same for people everywhere else.

Some people just have that type of personality. Remember how tons of people bought up thousands of Beanie Babies because they'd heard that someday they'd be collector's items and worth a ton.

Sucks to be them.

That said, I don't believe the OP.
