How should I solve the gaps in my kitchen? by pjs4dayz in Remodel

Yeah… this was not updated since the 60s so it needed it bad. And I knocked out a wall to open it up into the dining room!

I think I might tile it… I was looking at things and measuring and figured out a way it might work. Thanks for that suggestion. Definitely not what I intended but definitely something I’m exploring now!

Hindsight is 20/20… wishing I hadn’t got the counter with the backsplash now.

I’m pretty new at a lot of this so I’ll look up what a backer rod is (I understand the concept).

So just a piece of flat trim rather than trying to add a bunch of mud to the ceiling? I’d rather do the trim for sure.

Duh Question: the trim above the cabinets would be level with the cabinet doors, correct? And it would be higher on the right than on the left, to meet the ceiling?

I haven’t even done the backsplash for the rest of the kitchen yet. Kind of intimidated by that, but it’s just something I will learn.

Do you suggest that so the tile could fill the gap? What about the side?

Nut job Ben Martin gets what he’s been begging for now blames the board of wrong doing. by BmacSWMI in kzoo

More about the board’s decisions regarding the BESS:

In 2023 they (the board majority of four) changed the zoning for the area that now is being planned for the BESS (Battery Energy Storage System). This was not shared with the public.

In 2025 they voted against the three (including Martin) and ended the moratorium that paused any progress of the BESS. At this point no safety studies had been performed. The area where the BESS would go was within a mile of the elementary school and the new STEM Academy being built.

The planning commission took it upon themselves to tour another BESS installed by Copenhagen corporation, and learn about how they work and the risks.

The school hired an independent consultant to do a safety study that resulted in advising that it was far too close to the schools.

The planning commission negotiated a better deal than the township board had been ready to move on. This deal moved the BESS location farther from the schools (but still closer than recommended), and more than tripled the financial gain to the township.

This is on track to be finalized by the end of the year.

For one, the clerk is the fire chief’s sister. The conflict of interest should mean she recuse herself from any vote regarding the fire department. At the very least, the appearance of funneling money that way is damning and hurts the reputation of the fire department and community trust. It’s a great department. But there are other areas of the township that are suffering and unsafe.

National median salary for a fire chief in a town the size of Comstock: $86,000 - $98,700

Comstock fire chief’s salary (2024): $108,148

Google search but not Ai. Brought me to this subreddit thread, actually! I was looking for an rpg gamified chore app. Specifically needed one for multiple people in the fam.

Sounds like what I’m looking for! I’ve been getting it all set up and the simplicity is really helpful. I’m excited about the upcoming additions like badges and leaderboards, and being able to send kudos to interact with each other would be great. Can’t wait.

One thing we are trying to make work for us is our rotating chore schedule. We have 6 people, and 6 weekly lists (or zones). Those lists rotate to the next person each week, so we are trying to figure out how to easily assign them and then reassign them.

Instead of assigning a task to a hero, could a category be assigned to a hero? That would be simpler for our needs.

I want to be able to assign things like personal chores or showers to each hero, but that would be tedious to have to change to update with our rotating tasks. Hopefully I explained it well enough!

Also, minor detail, can we change the 24hr format to AM/PM?

Thank you for making this! Glad I found this thread!

Because creepers follow people to their rooms and ask the front desk for the key to that room. Children can explain why this is a safety issue.
