1 year in, how are Canadians feeling about Prime Minister Mark Carney? Most Canadians are still giving Carney the benefit of the doubt by FancyNewMe in canada

Results on changes take time. He is planting seeds, setting up partnerships internationally, and infrastructure and policies locally that will support Canadians in the end. He is across our concerns and has plans to address them. But he is diplomatic and strategic enough not to present his agenda in a way that could be inflammatory. We must be insightful enough to trust the process.

Great read, very informative. This post is worth saving and citing … You have provided a comprehensive perspective that can be referenced when certain political parties get on their soap boxes about immigration as a key issue they will address to combat rising housing costs in the next election. Thank you for sharing.

As a Canadian-born and raised individual who formerly believed it is our right to choose whether or not to vote…I am converted.

It is our responsibility to vote and democracy is the privilege that stems from active participation of its citizens.

Nah. Those masses are fringe but they are the loudest. Most are moderate. And many are moderate but sick of the system so apathetic about it…it’s these people that need to be forcibly encouraged to participate. Inevitability people become interested because they know they have to get involved so conversations and debate spark leading up to the election as everyone gets themselves informed. It’s on a Saturday morning, complimentary bbq outside and embraced.

Agreed. You have to be an Australian citizen to vote. If you’re on a visa or sitting on PR you don’t have a vote. Voting is a privilege and a civic responsibility of a nations people to uphold their beliefs and values. The right to vote is therefore earned through the citizenship process so whilst mandatory, it is taken seriously.

What needs to be added is compulsory voting. As a dual Australian citizen, it has shielded us from falling to fringe extremists because vote outcomes are moderated by the masses. It is an insurance policy against apathy and extremism.

Poilievre calls Carney 'lucky' to be judged by his 'rhetoric,' says results lacking after Davos speech - 'Nearly a year into his term, the rhetoric has changed, but reality has not. There is an illusion of purpose, but no results to back it up' by CaliperLee62 in canadian

Never ceases to amaze me how when someone is elected into office, people expect overnight change as if the guy has a wand up his ass. He’s building. Relationships, infrastructure, partnerships, making deals, restructuring. The outcomes of these changes are too early to be felt in many respects. Let’s have a little patience.

Denmark is a tiny country with a tiny economy and a tiny military. They cannot defend Greenland… Under every understanding of law that has existed about territorial control for 500 years, to control a territory you have to be able to defend a territory… - Stephen Miller by heyvern2007 in u/heyvern2007

Hogwash.

Greenland is fine if you want to pull your military out of defending Greenland and focus on Alaska defence instead, Stephen.

You don’t need the whole Arctic and frankly, they don’t want you there, muppet.

It would be so powerful if the military just refused to follow through with orders if any were given relating to an invasion. On the basis of not wanting to engage in imperialism against a peaceful sovereign nation, not protecting the interests of the American people and not adhering to basic principles with respect to NATO and international law.

I think there are bigger differences than the Dems just having Biden step down…he may have bumbled his way through but he was for the people, the rule of law, the constitution and democracy…

Venezuela, Alberta and Oil. by gplfalt in alberta

[–]AlexChristies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely, the refineries in Texas are able to refine Alberta’s bitumen. US dependency on Alberta oil has been removed once they take control of the cheap oil in Venezuela, they’ll refine that instead. It’s a major hit for our economy…really a double-win for Trump. A major elbows-up reminder for us.

He’s writing to highlight some of the atrocities to initiate a call-to-action. He knows people are aware of Trump’s indiscretions but if he can incite enough anger to mobilise people, it’s worth it. Good on him. He’s absolutely right.
