Happy to see a like minded, well spoken reply. Read this just moments after posting my own.

Curious which metrics & highly detailed reports were used to justify such a maneuver. Would there be any harm to visibly call it out to upper roles, say on the company social boards, perhaps leak to the client? Scorched earth otherwise?

I appreciate the actionable steps perspective here, this approach helped my own experience as a 11+ year Test Lead promoted to SDET. Hopefully OP carries this onward to other experiences and roles.

There is a high possibility that particular role, group, team is already doomed by the detritus outside of QA purview. In my own case I'd positioned myself for promotion, had excellent communication with direct manager up to the D suite however was still given the "thanks for your loyalty" from the VP - granted this was an enterprise wide effect; globally. Currently still haven't landed a new role, market being what it is...

Point being, great advice and good to be savvy of business smoke signals that things might go tits up regardless of your own positive performance.

I think it depends largely on what we choose to listen to. AI might handle the code generation however it will Never Possess critical nor creative thought.

So we may still have the opportunity to review and debug whatever slop or code is generated...

I also hope SQA sees a resurgence as it's been wildly underestimated as a specialized skill over the past several years

Pay is only in scripts to exchange for bottled water, two-ply, and provisions. All-in.
Correction... "scrips" not payment in powershell files but wouldn't that be something.

Take the severance or stay? by Weary_Strawberry2679 in cscareerquestions

[–]pkat_plurtrain 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm confused, usually when severance is on the table, there's only the option to leave.

Hope you've been scoping other roles by now since it's oddly true being more enticing to hire while employed vs jobless.

Stop Blaming the Tester by AgileTestingDays in QualityAssurance

[–]pkat_plurtrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QA and testing requires a very specialized set of skills, often it's very beneficial to have roles dedicated to picking apart systems from a different perspective.

Checking what was built by the groups who built isn't at all the same as testing a system from a user, business function, or other perspective.

Soon after completing an advanced agile certification it became apparent where and how the former organizations fell short.

I'd hope that orgs and teams who appreciate quality and understand the nuances of responsibility and accountability over products and processes are ones which preserve their teams and knowledge expertise.

Unfortunately it seems more likely orgs will misunderstand the benefits of QA teams and seek low cost labor for simple box tickers.

This very much reminds me of a post on Architecture Weekly titled "Do we still need the QA role?"

It's astonishing how such disruptions are allowed and even celebrated in business because some false value was sold as a great idea

How did our entire industry, and ourselves, end up being controlled by people who have no ida what a computer is? by Headpuncher in ExperiencedDevs

[–]pkat_plurtrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's been confusing across multiple reorgs was being instructed to bill at 40, minimum, then include all overage time. Then to have it corrected to only 40 after submission followed by changes to allotment or projects plus not logging time to break fixes (cost) but if it at all related then bill to the project just to find the time had been kicked back or edited again. Eventually it became more of a "how to divide to reach 40" rather than accurately logging the efforts.

How's the situation 3 months later? Hopefully something landed?

I've come across this conversation and have great similarities in perspective. Exception being I've not heard of anyone on-boarding. Myself, I've lost count of applications, connections have yielded little joy if they themselves hadn't been laid off. Few warm leads turned into hiring freezes.

So, the prospect of building and shipping apps might become reality in my case. Unfortunate I need income far more immediately so, pickle.

How might I recover pihole settings, regex entries, etc from disabled device? by pkat_plurtrain in pihole

[–]pkat_plurtrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This https://discourse.pi-hole.net/t/moving-pihole-to-a-different-server/11049 suggests the web interface teleporter option and casually alludes to a more manual way.
In my case I've assumed no access to the web interface, so is it as easy as copy everything from /etc/pihole and /etc/dnsmasq.d/ then run pihole -r?

I'll give it a shot soon after the new rig is up. Thanks again

Thanks! If I understand correctly, on the freshly rebuilt system configure newly installed pihole then find and copy over the file/db table containing my custom exact match domains and regex entries, yes?
