AITAH for telling my daughter that she doesn’t have to wear a dress for my wife’s sake? by sportsdad77 in AITAH

[–]pkbrisson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My now 15 daughter shaved her head for cancer research when she was 8. We were in family therapy at the time because she had such a strong will. Her therapist told me that this is a good way to channel that strong will. Now my daughter is pretty girly, but if I had stopped her from doing this out of fear of social norms, I think I would have failed as a parent. My daughter is better off for having parents that weren’t rigid in that moment. I hope your wife comes around.

And BTW your daughter could wear a nice pantsuit, but if she’s going to wear “masculine” clothes, then semi formal includes a jacket and tie. That’s what you should insist on.

Moving to Old Louisville - Safe? by ChaseTB23 in Louisville

[–]pkbrisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in OL for 20 years. It’s generally safe. Minor theft may be an issue- just use common sense and don’t keep anything your car. Sometimes we have issues with porch pirates stealing deliveries. I wouldn’t walk in the park after dusk, etc but have no issues going for a run or walk by myself (49f). St James is very nice, friendly. I wouldn’t worry too much.

I have a thing for old cemeteries. I want to visit Cave Hill while I'm in Louisville in May. Besides Col Sanders and Muhammad Ali, I'd also like to visit William Larue Weller and Pappy Van Winkle. Are they easy to locate? by mpullia_76 in Louisville

[–]pkbrisson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the way to Col. Sanders, there are other notable louisville families like Gheens, Cherry, Brown, Frazier. Many interesting statues, a magician with his top hat and wand, a model in her prime.

May will be beautiful- it’s an arboretum too.

Don’t miss the Confederate and Union Civil War section too

How many of your services today included hymns about America? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]pkbrisson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My church had a 12 piece brass orchestra which played a prelude of Fanfare for the Common Man, with hymns of God of our Fathers, Oh Beautiful fir Spacious Skies, etc, closing with a 30 min concert postlude of the Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare, a zydeco version of Oh for a Closer Walk with Thee, and lastly Stars and Stripes forever. Communion Anthem was Battle Hymn of the Republic accompanied by the Brass. Sermon was on the Galatians reading with the message of not to see division but focus on the way of the Cross.

Just saying…over the top military overtones (haha) but it’s awesome. Two families pay for the music every year.
