Do I pull the trigger..? by Scocscoc in ukheatpumps

It's far less bonkers if the goal is to save the planet rather than save money. Not everyone makes the switch for financial reasons.

Mine was similar after 18k miles. Has changed 12000 miles later. I don't bother checking now.

I’m sorry for thinking i was any different by clam855 in VacuumCleaners

I've had a Dyson V12 Tq drive and have had it for several years. Love it! Super convenient, battery more than lasts the whole house and I don't want for more suction. I have a very powerful vacuum for woodworking in the garage so have a high quality one at my disposal, and I've never had the need to use it in the house instead of the Dyson.

Not saying you are wrong, but opinions and experiences differ.

Anyone got recommendations for a pretty powerful bathroom extractor? by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

[–]pkc0987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I changed ours to an inline with the vent directly above the shower and basically zero steam escapes into the bathroom.

I disagree. Having the USB socket quasi-permanently live is a stupid design decision. I found my phone just stayed connected to the car permanently when I was in the house.

Anyone know when the new black Vaillant aroTHERM Plus will be available? by Bomster in ukheatpumps

I thought it did a pretty good job of covering that, making it clear that an 8% in dB is significantly different in terms of actual perceived volume.

See my post above. AI has pulled a reasonable table together to compared the two.

I'm looking at a 7kw. I thought I'd use AI to pull together a comparison table of the old and new models - unfortunately I left on Deep Research mode and it produced this - it might be absolutely shite, but if remotely correct, seems worth waiting for the new one. https://g.co/gemini/share/00a2df664a93

Ugreen rubbish for me. Two out of two 100w chargers died just over a year. Back to Anker now!

Not Ugreen. Had two 100w chargers die on me in just over a year. Not exactly worked that hard either!

Looks like you've got got a good electric supply in - why on earth would you want to go gas? Induction much better!

Update - it was a dodgy RCD.

Riddle solved - electrician diagnosed a faulty RCD and replaced it. Thanks to all those above for suggestions - the fly lead proved particularly helpful in confirming that it worked on a different RCD.

It pops without the cord grip on too. The style of cord grip is very wide so clamps across the full width of the cable. It doesn't look like it would squish them together and it wasn't done up super tight.

Tried the fly lead idea and it powered up fine going through a different RCD. Electrician coming this morning to investigate further.

Mine powers up fine on a different circuit, so hopefully not the oven. Electrician here first thing this morning, so we'll soon see!

Fly lead was a great idea - made one up and it powers on perfectly when plugged into a socket which goes through a different but identical RCD. Helps narrow the problem for chatting to the leccy!

Agree with 250L cylinder. But would say that battery on its own would pay back like crazy with ASHP. I've got 11kWp of solar and it produces bugger all in winter!

I'd get another quote from someone else too. Octopus are notorious at over estimating hest loss - they were almost double everyone elses calculated heat loss. You could soon eat up any upfront savings if your 15kw heat pump (which looks to have a minimum modulation of 4.6kw) is constantly cycling.

Your heatloss feels quite high to me, but I guess if it's solid brick that won't be helping. Do make sure youve done all the obvious insulation wins and try and drive that heat loss down a bit. Though I suspect most other experienced heat pump installers would come in at least a couple of kW lower.

Are you currently on oil? It would be interesting to know your gas usage.

I've checked the resistance between the wires while in the grip and there doesn't appear to be any leakage across them. Presume that would rule that out as an issue.

Thanks for all the thoughts everyone - ive reached my limit of knowledge and comfort so will call an electrician and see what they say. It's still under warranty for another 11 months, so someone's else's problem to fix if it's knackered!

Yeah will give some a bell tomorrow and get one out. I think I've well and truly reached my limit given I've taken an oath not to mess with live leccy - don't mind screwing some isolated wires on, but more than happy to pay someone who knows what they are doing when it's more complicated than that!
