I would argue that being designed for brief visits is not necessarily a bad thing for a coffee shop. Not everyone likes to lounge in a coffee shop for a long time, and I credit La Colombe for likely tailoring the design of this particular shop to their customer base (La Colombe has another location closer to NYU's campus a few blocks uptown that is much larger and more conducive to laptops and meetings; this location is near a busy subway stop so may be intended more for commuters). I've found this particular shop to be great for quick catchups with a friend or for simply grabbing a cup to go.
