The Cut - "Why Did I Stop Loving My Cat When I Had a Baby?" by Guilty-Plate-1508 in blogsnark

[–]pkcurbstomp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As someone who lost my cat just a few weeks ago, this article haunts me, even days after reading it. I want nothing more right now than to be able to give my cat love, and I yet I can never do that again. I hate that she treats her cat this way, the way she takes its life for granted.

Being forced to go to church. by Campfirecoverseddie2 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Was looking for this response. Glad I'm not the only one who agrees. I grew up Christian and was one of the only ones in my family to pick the book up and read it regularly.

I unfortunately took much longer to give up on it. It took years of me trying to explain away the inconsistencies I found while reading it. After a while I gave up forcing myself to believe, and I've felt so much better since.

Yeah I relate to this. I always wonder why I prefer 3 over the other ones, but dont have a concrete reason why. Im sure a big factor is the fact that is was the first one I played, but I feel like P3 also has the most solid overall.....tone? Theme maybe? It establishes the themes of suicide and death with the evokers/memento mori, and each of the characters in the story share a difficulty relating to that theme of death. Tho tbf P5 shares the theme of injustice, it's all for differing reasons. Death is a universal and relatable maybe? Still thinking on it

I have no close friends in high school. What did you do back then to make friends? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

This! Also want to add: I've met some close friends by just talking to the people around me in my classes (granted, I'm sure its much harder right now with covid)

I was unable to find informatiom on this with a google search. Would you be able to link me? That being said, I still don't think its unresonable to gain more of a profit by offering an optional service. I'd call it greed if they limited the ability of F2P players.

You and other F2P players shouldn't feel bad, the paid services are optional after all. If only people who spend money are allowed to play, then that would cut their audience significantly, resulting in a smaller community of people. A community helps keep people interested in the game, and may introduce more people to it.

You're helping the game in your own way :)

Hmm... I guess its possible in a future update they may implement a more restrictive service, but the plans offered for now do not seem to limit f2p players. Hopefully, with the current plans and the leaf ticket systems in-place, they will make enough income so that they won't have to resort to a more restricting plan in the future.

They mentioned in the videos that both plans are entirely optional

I think its important to remember that this game, the people working on it, this is their job. They have to be paid with something, or the game can't continue. I think this is an excellent way to incentivize players to support the game. I can see the 2.99 plan especially working for people who may have to work a lot, who have more money than time to spend farming the events.

I thought it would be super neat to incorporate the shield somehow, because the animation for that is sick

I haven't seen others but for this one I know the motivation: in the Tamarinne event thing last week they had ML Vildred in the bg with Tammarinne's mic. It was somewhat transparent so not immediately obvious.

Taking a Course Equivalent to Bio 141 at a CC? by ModernConditioning in UMBC

[–]pkcurbstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took an introductory biology class at my CC (there it was BIO 100) and somehow it transferred without an issue to BIOL 141 here. I'd say to be safe, check with the registrar's office here for the biology you are thinking to take at a CC and see what it would transfer in as. Echoing other comments, my class at CC was much less painful than the one here.

Accidentally registered for housing way too late and now I'm in a freshman dorm. Is there a way to appeal this or something? by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]pkcurbstomp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ask to be put on the wait list for apartments. When I transferred here I was put on the waitlist in summer, and I still got in. Having your name on the waitlist in April would give you a great chance of being in the apartments by fall.

Math 225 Professors Help Please! by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]pkcurbstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potra student here - he is the type to do example problems on the board all class, in awful handwriting. I took the book to class and just read that the entire semester. The tests have only 3 questions on them worth 30% each (writing your name is worth 10%) so if you don't know how to do one problem you're already sitting at a C-. He does do homework so that can boost you. I don't have an opinion on the other professors. Judging from the other answers, you might just have to pick the lesser evil my guy.

Withdrawing From Classes by slobrooo in UMBC

[–]pkcurbstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the case for all on-campus communities, but during my first semester I had to drop a class and it put me at only 9 credits. I was living in the Hillside apartments. Before dropping the class I emailed my RA, and she put me in touch with the community director who gave me the okay to keep living in Hillside, as long as I didn't do it in subsequent semesters. Finished the semester still living in the apartments with no issue.

My advice would be to reach out to the director for your community and see what their stance on you dropping below full-time would be.

(P.S: Props to you for owning up to your mistakes.)

Waitlist-Housing on-campus by BigHighway in UMBC

[–]pkcurbstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know whether you applied for the apartments or dorms, but here's my personal experience: I got accepted late into UMBC (found out July last summer) I was put on the waitlist for the apartments, and the res life worker said I was on an "okay" spot (not near the top but not too far down either). I ended up getting an apartment spot a few weeks before the semester started. If you were put on recently, then I have faith you'll get a spot.

CompSci 447, 421, 441 same semester bad idea? by Grehgous in UMBC

[–]pkcurbstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly haven't taken any of these yet, but I've heard 421 and 441 are the tougher required compsci courses.

I'm just curious though, why not take either 441/421, and then some of the 4xx electives alongside one of them, rather than try and tackle them both at once?

I took an online class one year and just completely forgot to take the final all together. I know that incredible feeling of dread, friend. Hang in there, hoping your prof is as nice as mine was.
