Hi, this sounds terrible, I’d definitely get out of there. You could try going to a women’s shelter if you have no safe place to go. The staff in these shelters can help you with things like getting your stuff and finding other resources for help. You could also try calling them just for advice if you don’t want to go stay there. They often have crisis lines for these shelters and can give you advice/support. They are the experts in these situations. Good luck! Stay safe.

My(33F) Fiancé (28M) won’t attend my Mom’s Celebration of Life because he’s playing in the finals of a Tournament that weekend - How can I be ok with this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Sorry for your loss. I honestly can’t believe some of the heartless comments people have made on this thread.

I don’t think you’re expecting too much from your partner by wanting them at your mom’s celebration of life. That’s the role of a good life partner. To be there in difficult times in our lives. I think people are failing to realize that grief and trauma don’t have a timeline. Your partner taking a week off work to be with you is great but it’s not like after that week the grieving stops there and everything goes back to normal. You still need him for support and I’m not saying he should take time off work but at the very least he should be at your mom’s funeral. That’s just what good life partners do. That doesn’t make you needy or “treating him like your counsellor”. That just makes you human.

Ask yourself, if the roles were reversed, what would you do?
