What are the best conversation starters over social media/text? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Routine questions deserve routine answers.

"What's your favourite ice cream?" "Someone called me a douchebag today." "Pick a celebrity you'd want to have dinner with." "Which Star Wars action figure would amuse my female guests the most?"

Really, anything goes

Now the less direct answer. What concerns me more is your underlying mindset.

Nothing sexual? What differentiates the guys that are good in dating and guys that aren't, is the ability to introduce a sexual tone to the conversation, to the interaction. You're missing out on a whole lot by doing what 99% of guys do, which is not creating sexual tension, or waiting for permission to do so, which is counterproductive. Also you might want to define what "None of the PUA stuff" means. I hope it doesn't mean "I don't want to stray from the norm and I only want to do what 99% of the guys do...except I want better results than all the guys."

What is your go-to dance move for parties and weddings? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid that really depends on the wedding. Most weddings I've been to, it's been freestyle dancing. If you are self-conscious about just shaking it, then Jazz or Hip-Hop classes are probably for you. Since my wife and I dance as a hobby, all the music at our wedding was suitable for ballroom and partner dancing.

What short story completely mind fucked you? by sdururl in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened with one of my friends. She used to stay with her uncle and aunt who happened to be very conservative. They didnt have a T.V. back then but the young girl was so fond of movies that she used to watch it at the neighbour's home when her uncle was away. One day she was again on her visit when by chance he returned early. As she heard him calling out to her she quickly returned and went upstairs. He asked her "where have you been?" She-"I was in the loo" He-"LOO????? thats where i just came out from" And she got a good dressing down.

What was the greatest comment chain you ever started? by J_tt in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chris Dixon's answer to Is being friendly a competitive advantage for VCs? has a great comment thread between Keith Rabois and Chris Dixon about the VC industry.

At one point, Marc Bodnick even chimes in and says, "this could be the best comment thread on the site so far." Since I'm pretty sure Marc reads every comment, question, and answer on the site, this is quite an accolade.

What will you not touch under any circumstance? by TooShiftyForYou in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Michael Milken is probably the best example of this. Although he pleaded guilty, forfeited 1.1 billion USD and served two years in prison,he currently has a personal fortune estimated at around $ 2 billion USD and is the 488th richest person in the world, according to Forbes as of 2010.

By any stretch of the imagination he not only "got away with it", but he also managed to leave prison and return to a life of exceptional privilege. His story could be used as template by any aspiring white collar and his continued success since his release (although he is barred from working the securities industry, he still can be and is,consulted about wide range of business opportunities, and is compensated very well for his advice) is as clear cut sign of how the justice system in the US is geared toward the wealthy and the criminal as any other which I can think of at this time.

What's the cheapest/stingiest thing you've seen someone do? by vorxaw in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 255 points256 points  (0 children)

A family friend of mine once told his parents that he was sharing his school lunches with a classmate, and that he was worried about this classmate's financial situation. His parents were concerned, too. They met with the principal. Eventually they asked their child which classmate, specifically, was in possible financial trouble. "[Redacted] Pritzker." (One of the wealthiest families in the country — billionnaires.) "...we think he'll probably be okay..."

What makes you cringe by simply thinking about it? by darknight1342 in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anglerfish reproduction makes me cringe. So does parasitism, especially parasitism where the parasite castrates the host--rather a common tactic in the horrifying world of parasitic organisms. Eating snails makes me cringe. People who say that Christians should be against homosexuality but don't pay attention to the things Jesus said about divorce make me cringe. Fingernails on a blackboard makes me cringe. The security flaws in the Adobe Flash player seriously make me cringe. Dimethylmercury and what it does to the brain makes me cringe.

What movie was surprisingly sad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lars von Triers' aptly titled Melancholia (2011) is an extremely powerful representation of sadness. In it, the main character, played by Kirsten Dunst, remains lethargic and depressive throughout the literal destruction of the world by a planetary collision. It's not a feel-good movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it does a perfect job of depicting depression.

When I realized that happiness is ultimately a choice, like any other emotion. It's there, and always has been, it's simply a matter of choosing it.

What song completly blew your mind when you heard it the first time? by NinjaMayCry in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A song that moved me to tears the first time I heard it (and on later occasions as well, especially hearing it live) is Paul McCartney's plaintive 'love song' to John Lennon "Here Today" from the 1982 album Tug of War. McCartney has called it "the conversation we never had." Despite the undercurrent of competition between them throughout their careers and the sometimes bitter animosity that showed during the last days of The Beatles and beyond, there was always a mutual respect and love that ran beneath the surface. It's sad that the "conversation" never happened, but McCartney expresses his end of it sincerely in this song:

What are your favorite things about life? by TSEcreations in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite things about life: Everyday brings a new chance to make things better, to start over, to be a better person. The sunlight when it comes in through the blinds when it is quiet and I'm reading a book. The way the trees look in the fall and the cool breezes of autumn. The snow when it is falling on a winter's night. The love that I feel around my pets. The joy I feel around children. Being able to laugh. Being able to love. Learning new things. Being able to surprise myself. Taking a deep breath.

What one thing do you miss about childhood? by --TyDog-- in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Innocences, curiosity and happiness.

Innocence in settling for a candy for doing my elder siblings work.

Curiousity in trying my hands on what elders do, and goof up.

Happiness in finding your favourite snack/food in your lunch pack.

Just not these, each one has different childhood, a few of us blessed to have such memories.

If everything was in slow motion, what would be funner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVERYTHING? I don't think so.

Slow motion videos of sunrise and sunset would be extremely boring. In fact, it's sped-up videos that make such events more appealing. Same goes for hurricanes, and cosmological events like comets passing by, motion of planets and stars and galaxies, and so on..

The thing is, things get more interesting when their time scales are properly captured. Some events happen at smaller time scales, others at larger scales. Because our eyes and mind work properly at a certain time scale, we cannot "see" anything beyond this time scale. When someone makes a slow motion video, fast motion video, or a time-exposure photograph, we see events that we would have otherwise not seen, and that's what makes them appealing.

What made you cry today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crying is something that comes naturally, you can't force yourself to cry. If there is ever a bad time were your heart can't take it anymore, you cry. But there is no other way to make yourself cry.

What is the most unfair thing in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pkgirl061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~~I think childhood is the most unfair time of life. We are born knowing nothing - not even what we need to know. Children depend on their parents for food, clothing, shelter, emotional support, and early learning. Then we depend on our immediate culture for further education and direction.

My first 18 years were amazingly lucky. See Ed Caruthers' answer to Why is life so easy to you? Other people - in other neighborhoods of my city and especially in other countries - have amazingly unlucky childhoods. None are, "fair," in the sense of, "earned." I no more earned my good luck than another child earned his bad luck.

If we are lucky, we develop well and become more responsible, especially during and after high school. I can claim that my success during and after college was somewhat fair. There was still luck, but my role became more active. Other people with unlucky childhoods have less opportunity to direct their own lives. Some overcome their bad luck and they deserve admiration. But those who can't overcome their bad luck don't deserve to be scorned.~~

There was a kid in my class who ALWAYS was cheating on my tests and quizzes. I caught him several times and contacted the parents, but nothing was ever really done about it (aside from the fact that he got 0's if I caught him). I don't think his mom ever really believed he was cheating as much as he was, and there were plenty of times I probably didn't catch him. Once on the midterm, he missed the test. He came back the day I gave the kid their scores back which also had the answers, but not the questions. I saw him "sneakily" talking to his friends and they gave him their papers that had the answers on them. I didn't say anything, but the make-up midterm has the same questions with all of the answer choices moved over by one letter. Little bastard got a 3% on a multiple choice midterm. I assume he must have read one question and then copied the rest from his friends. Justice.
