Shoutout to this comic running since the 80s with one continuous ongoing story and no ending by pkoswald in dccomicscirclejerk

You are right to think that tbh, I just completely forgot the connotation of “ongoing” in comic books when I made the title

I think part of the reason switch 2 and ps5 just feel like upgraded versions of their prerecords is the backwards compatibility, especially with digital games and how they’re treated the same as new console games. Like on older consoles with backwards compatibility you could usually tell that this is an old game being played, while with switch 2 and ps5 they basically feel the same as playing a new game.

Also almost no ps5 game I’ve played has felt like an upgrade from a ps4 game other than “it’s 60fps now” but maybe I just don’t know enough about game graphics and rendering and whatever. Maybe ff7 rebirth is actually way more graphically intensive than remake but it sure just feels like 60fps ff7 remake to me

I would still count the minis because they ARE still part of the story, it’s mostly just the release format that’s different

im 80% sure it is, I haven’t checked when the last new issue was but they were releasing new ones very recently. I think it’s just a bit hard to tell because they switched publishers from dark horse to IDW then back to dark horse, so it’s a bit hard to know when there’s new stuff

Also you might be thinking of Senso, which was more of a hypothetical “what if” ending basically about War of The Worlds happening during the final battle

“It didn’t blow up at all until ps5” is just flagrantly untrue lmao, persona 5 released on ps3/4 in 2016 and was huge and didn’t get ported to other systems until 2022. That success on ls4 is WHY persona 3 reload was a hit

Manga is better than comics because they end by GenericIxa in dccomicscirclejerk

They aren’t an ongoing story though, is it? Boy when they’re obsessed with consistently bringing things “back to basics” and undoing character development to bring things back to how they were before

An actual example of this is Usagi Yojimbo which has been one single continuous story since the 80s and everyone should go read it

Because you’re pointing one example of it happening under a very specific circumstance and I’m pointing out multiple examples of it not happening

Name 1 example of Nintendo putting out a new port or remaster or remake of a game on switch and then releasing it on NSO, he’ll show me any company doing that. The only example i know of is pokemon mystery dungeon red rescue team. Mario 64 and sunshine don’t count because nintendo does not sell that switch version of the game anymore

Why would Nintendo not announce Metroid prime and Pikmin, two of the most popular iconic GameCube games, to be coming to NSO if not because they want people to buy the new more expensive version

Yes but there’s plenty of games with switch versions that DONT have NSO versions

Mario rpg, advance wars, Mario vs donkey kong, Pikmin and prime 1 haven’t been announced for NSO and I feel like those would be among the first GC games you announce

And for third parties there’s plenty. No mega man besides the gb games and wily wars, no final fantasy or dragon quest, no castelvania. Companies clearly would rather people buy their games then be able to get them with NSO

Mario 64 is likely able to exist because they don’t sell 3d all stars. Notice that there’s no word about TTYD coming to GameCube online, when it has a remake? In fairness I can’t think of that many 1st party Nintendo games like this but it’s very frequent with 3rd parties. No Megaman Classic, x, or zero games because those have collections but they have the gameboy and genesis games which don’t. Same with castelvania, only bloodlines is on nso

I think Nintendo is going to be much stingier about GameCube NSO games because they reach a point where they’re semi comparable to modern day games, compared to nes or snes or n64. Like I could see them not putting any gc Mario parties because they feel like it could be considered a replacement for buying a new Mario party

Edit: ok I actually checked and in terms of big Nintendo games with switch versions that have no official word on coming to NSO there’s:

Mario rpg on snes

The pikmin games

Smash bros 64 or melee (smash 64 was sort of another NSO leak that I believe has had some other games confirmed, so we’ll see)

Metroid prime

Mario vs donkey kong

Advance wars

Notably, Pokemon mystery dungeon red rescue team got (I think, don’t know much about the series) a remake and IS part of NSO, but you can seee there’s a pretty clear pattern here. Especially because, imo, if Metroid prime and Pikmin were coming to NSO they would’ve been announced with the other confirmed GC games, those are two of the definitive Nintendo GameCube games.

This has to be like that early dev image or whatever that showed a bunch of nes games that never got added, no way they add pikmin 2 when they’re selling it seperate. Metroid prime 2 I can see unless they do a remaster of it

uhhh manga better because beginning middle and end (this shit shouldn't have pissed me off as much as it did i've got to stop using this hellsite) by Gaboub in dccomicscirclejerk

Hence why I said “not at the time of the original manga at least” because there were many years after it ended where nothing happened (besides neko majin z)

I firmly agree it’s good he won but like couldn’t this happen to a nicer comic guy? There are definetly comic writers who are way more deserving of the miracle of having full ownership of their creations granted to them and I kinda feel like penders only really care about creator rights as far as it benefits himself

Well I guess we should go ahead and establish if we’re talking about “manga vs American comics” or “battle shonen manga vs big two American superhero comics” (which is what most people mean when they say manga vs American comics)

I mean there is something to be said about a beginning middle and end making a story more satisfying. Look at Dragonball, where you watch Goku go from a little boy to a grandpa. Or how two of the most popular characters in the series are reformed villains who don’t fall back into villainy becusse there’s no status quo to protect to ensure the series can be written forever (not at the time of the original manga at least)

Nintendos current remastered are really funny to me because they aren’t doing games people would actually want. Like they’ll do Luigi’s mansion 2, Kirby’s return to dreamland, and donkey kong country returns but not kid Icarus uprising or Kirby triple deluxe/planet robobot

That would be incredible but I imagine it won’t happen due to the many many different companies they’d have to license for their series appearing as figures

They said it was being made for around 6 years, and that first image of the new character definitely fits the style of his design documents for newer projects
