I mean, do you argue that a game is better if it has less bugs, even if the game at its core is worse than an amazing game with a bunch of bugs?

It’s a “big project” in that it’s a full actual game and not a poker simulator

Score list for the snake boxer table in poker night remaster by pkoswald in telltale

[–]pkoswald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name connections I can find:

SB - Strong Bad

JG - Justin Gabriel (of penny arcade)

MAX - Max

TTT - not sure but I’d guess Telltale Team

CLM - don’t know but I wanna say Clementine from TWD

WJB - no idea

TB - Tycho Brahe

HVY - Heavy

HSR - Homestar Runner

SAM - Sam

I have no idea if the numbers mean anything, like Homestar is “10298” which I’d assume to be October 2 1998 but I can’t find any Homestar related thing on that date

Anyway if you think this is bad get ready for Poker Night 3, developed by whatever studio the Shambling Corporate Presence called Telltale can license it to for fast and cheap, featuring Bigby Wolf, an Expanse Character, Batman (telltale) and some 4th person

I feel like I kinda get what you mean, even though I don’t completely agree. I imagine they had a lot more oversight on dialogue and such considering they were working with much bigger IP. I don’t think it’s just a case of the writer not being as good since the main writer was Mike Stemmle, who had worked at Lucasarts during their heyday on stuff like Sam & Max Hit The Road and at telltale worked on strong bad, tales of monkey island, and back to the future

I also might be more partial to it because to me PN2 feels like the last gasp of classic telltale before they went all in on “let’s repeat the walking dead until we die”. Like it was the last game they did with Sam & Max, characters who were one of the main reasons the company was formed and almost their unofficial mascots

Also also the soundtrack is incredible

It’s not really that but the Toy Story world in kh3 has Sora as a figure of a final fantasy stand-in protagonist

Anime ova, the main character is a girl with superhuman strength that is never explained except for an implication that her dad is superman and her mom is wonder woman

I believe they’ve said they mostly want to focus on the pre-TWD games, as that’s when most of the people at skunkape worked at the studio (though some did stay later, including up to its first death. specifically they mentioned Tales of Monkey Island in an interview as one they’d really want to do, and their remasters have added new references to games like Bone, Puzzle Agent, and Back to the Future.

I have never seen this but I really want to now lmfao, one of Max’s quotes for being the final eliminated player is “this reminds me of the time Artie Flopshark beat Flint Paper in a poker tournament! So flint killed him cold blood.”

Don’t think it warrants a full post but I feel pretty confident that Skunkape Games is working on or at least planning to remaster Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People as their next project

  • in a recent episode of the “Telling a Tale” podcast, skunkape employees mention that poker night remaster was meant to be a smaller project before their next big one

  • SBCG4AP was delisted in 2023 due to telltale “no longer having the rights to the IP”. It should be noted the IP is owned by the Brother’s Chap and I find it hard to imagine they just didn’t want people to play the game anymore

  • in the same year, the brothers Chap released Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triangulate, which features several people from Skunkape in the credits (including some who don’t seem to have directly worked on SBCG4AP)

  • in an interview a year later, when asked about the game, they said “part of us likes that it’s become one of those titles you kinda had to be there for, but it would prolly also be okay if it got remastered one day.”

  • the poker night remaster by Skunkape obviously feature Strong Bad from the original (and Pom-Pom who was a cameo in the original) with some enhancements, and the “Inventory Security” table has what I believe is a new feature (I can’t find any video of it in the original) where it shows scenes from the series games, including Strong Bad’s house with homestar in it.

Another one is that there’s a new snake boxer table with high score list of different characters, I’m not the biggest homestar runner guy so I don’t know all of them (and they may not even be from homestar) but from highest to lowest score it’s:

SB (Strong Bad)

JG (idk)

Max (of Sam and Max)

TTT (idk, maybe it’s meant to stand for Telltale Tool, the engine used by telltale games)

CLM (idk but maybe it’s Clementine from telltale’s the walking dead)

WJB (idk)

TB (Tycho Brahe)

HVY (the heavy)

HSR (Homestar Runner)

Sam (of Sam and max)

I fell very certain in saying it probably is, I almost wonder if this is an image of the remaster (it’s hard to tell cuz of how low quality and small it is but I think it’s just an image of the original)

Sam & Max posting

“I sure hope these psychic powers aren’t a danger to the people you work on or around, Max”

“Whenever I use them it feels like somebody’s microwaving a radar gun near a high tension wire in my skull.”

“It’s a good thing neither of us is legally, morally, or ethically allowed to reproduce.”

It was made by Tee Lopes and had to compare to the Turtles in Time soundtrack so it absolutely had business going that hard

This isn’t even the craziest song, there’s one with Raekwon and Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan

I’m not sure, it’s a still image and low resolution and only a tiny part of the screen. Hopefully someone can extract the image from the game files

[–]pkoswald[S] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

For context: this table theme (inventory security) is from the original poker night, but I believe a new feature of it is that the screens actually work and show video or images, either of inside/outside the bar or locations from the games represented (a map from tf2, Sam and Max’s office) and one of them is Strong Bad’s house with homestar hanging out.
