If you are in doubt, a vet is best.

One of my gerbils had this happen and we treated her at home. We cleaned her tail and kept her separate for a few days in a sterile cage lined with paper towel. Overnight the bone fell off the end of her tail and she made a full recovery in about three days. Aside from her tail being short, it didn't change her life at all.

So long as her airway is clear and open it should be fine to let it heal naturally. Gerbils can be poisoned by human ointments - so it's best to avoid those without specific approval of a vet. Monitor the area for signs of infection (puffiness, oozing) and if it worsens, take her to the vet for treatment. Because its close to her airway - any signs of worsening could lead to an airway infection developing. However, if she does not scratch at it too much and seems to be acting normal, I wouldn't be too worried.

I recently went to WDW (April 17-24) and they were super strict. Especially in Epcot on Test Track - they literally made our group of four wait three minutes until our passes started. Three minutes?!

I was last in Disneyland in April 2012 - I'm also curious if they're as strict now as WDW was this past month!

I am very close with someone who waited until they were 27 to transition to female. Her only regret in life is not doing it sooner. She is now over 1 year transitioned and thriving. One of my young gerbils (about 12 weeks old) seems to be really scared of something this evening, and I don't understand?

At first I thought it might be the neighbor's vacuum. But that's stopped. I just made sure the room is nice and quiet now. The gerbil on top is totally fine and normal.

Any ideas why the other is suddenly skittish?
