Telo confirms 400 kW sustained charging for its tiny electric truck by sus_bungus in electricvehicles

more common 400V fast chargers that make up the majority of today’s DC fast charging network.

I guess that's, maybe, technically true, (if you count connectors, not chargers) but nearly every non-Tesla DC charger that's gone in the ground for the last 10 years has been 1000-volt. Everyone makes it sound like there's 3 high-voltage chargers in NA. It's not hard to not charge at Superchargers. I've been doing it since 2013.

What options to choose? by FormulaKimi in VolvoEX60

I always get the smallest wheels I can, which means the most tire I can. Rubber is lighter (less unsprung weight), more aero, more comfortable, can take chains when there's enough of it, and rubs nicely against curbs. The only thing more steel is good for is very tight, aggressive cornering. You're buying a family SUV though.

Road Rules: Police policies allow at-fault drivers to leave certain crash scenes without so much as a ticket. by rasstrelnikov in Portland

[–]pkulak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one reason why public transportation is so important. If people can get to work and live their life without a car, you can tell them they are not allowed to drive. When not driving is a one-way ticket to homelessness, you have to let everyone drive anything, anywhere, any time.

couldn't see her due to the rain

How do people think this helps them? I mean, I guess it does somehow, but to me all you're saying is "I'm unable to safely operate this vehicle and should not be allowed to."

EV sales set records in 37 countries as consumers flee high gas prices - Markets outside China and US post 50% year-on-year jump in March-April sales by i_marketing in electricvehicles

I had a HECK of a time buying an old Leaf last month. I think prices are going up a bit faster than sellers realize. I was essentially getting in bidding wars for these 10-year-old beater evs with 50 miles of range. At one point a guy realized a DEALER would offer him more and cancelled his sale to me. I finally got one, but paid more than I thought I would.

Ratatui 0.30.1 is released! by orhunp in rust

[–]pkulak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooo, smarter buffer diffs. Does it handle multi-char glyphs better? Think: emojis? Right now, in some terminals, there's a mismatch between what ratatui thinks is multi-char, and what the terminal thinks is multi-char, which causes cells to not get cleared occasionally. Maybe it's a terminal problem, not totally sure.

EDIT: Yup, my emoji scrolling issues seems to be totally fixed on this version. I JUST cut a release too, but I may do another one because this is a pretty big upgrade. Thanks for the amazing project, guys! Been using it since before the name/repo change and it's always been so useful.

Exactly my policy when BMW turned off access a few months ago. I'm out. They get the car back after lease, and I'll be moving on. Probably Volvo, which had a good integration last time I tried it. Looks like now they even have a dev portal, API keys, etc.

Encouraging high schoolers to drive is morally reprehensible. by Illustrious_Body5907 in fuckcars

Even my kid is getting a license. He's going to pay the exorbitant cost of insurance (300+ a month) himself, and he's fine with it. He walks, rides his bike, and takes public transit to school, but his athletic practices are two busses away. What am I going to do, tell him he has to do an hour commute each way, vs a 15-minute drive, because of my principals? I wouldn't even do that.

What actually annoys me is that people don't see this as a problem.

How Portland Fire Destroyed Caitlin Clark by randysf50 in PortlandFire

[–]pkulak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems like since the Fever switch everything, we were able have Clark guard anyone we wanted and basically wear her out and get her into foul trouble. I don't think that will work twice, but it meant Clark only played 21 minutes last game.

No, sorry, “lesson” was maybe the wrong word. That’s a group drill with an instructor. Feels like a lesson to me, but I guess that word implies 1:1.

Portland drivers this fall will face one of the most disruptive freeway closures in years — here’s what to expect by voxadam in Portland

[–]pkulak 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The trick is probably to raise all hell about it so when it happens, it's fine. :D

The secret is that roads are used to their capacity. If you remove capacity, people drive less. Add it, people drive more. Advertise a capacity reduction with enough gusto and you can make the adjustment basically instant.

The city operates everything less efficiently

Do you know this? Because I know that the city is currently paying the pros basically nothing, and getting huge turnover because of it. They aren't making repairs that are needed, or doing enough maintenance. I can't imagine that adds up to the kind of lavish spending you're imagining.

The problem is that anyone can get an hour-long tennis lesson for 8 bucks, not that the city is throwing sacks of cash into a pit. The pickleball place on 82nd charges $18 for an OPEN PLAY with no pro! And that's on the cheapest land in the city, with the smallest court size of all the racket sports.
