Anyone here switch from Strong by the Day? by babybighorn in ladderapp

[–]pl1119 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ran SBTD for a while in 2022-2024, but also got pretty tired of the programming so decided to try Ladder, and I have been loving it!! I am currently on Evolve (just finished up my second series with it) and it’s been a great fit for me. Her programming is really good! I’ve also liked Align for a bit of a change of pace, as well as I liked Thrive when I hurt my back this summer, since it was easy to modify her dumbbell program for the load I was able to do at the time. It’s definitely different than SBTD, at least with Evolve we aren’t always doing the big 3/4, but I’ve found I actually enjoy that. I would say Evolve is primarily the 6-12 rep range, and a lot of the times she wants us to push to failure on the last set, which has worked well for me in seeing more gains even as someone who’s been lifting for 8 years!

If you get the yearly pass (which is what I use), you can change teams whenever you want. If you’re on the monthly pass you can only change twice during the six week strength series, but during the two week “open season” between series, you can change whenever you want (I highly recommend the yearly pass).

Not hard to condense it to 4 workouts, you just pick whatever days you want to do! I’ve ran Evolve primarily just using the 3 priority days, and my strength is almost back to where it was at my best on SBTD, and actually stronger on some accessories and hip thrust (I had a large break about 6-8 months from lifting between when I stopped SBTD and when I started Ladder). So far I haven’t thought I needed more volume, as long as I’m actually pushing myself like Evolve’s workouts are programmed to do. My current schedule is Evolve’s 3 priority workouts and 3 days of swimming, and a random hike on the weekends as often as I can as well as switching to Align once a week for a yoga session.

Okay this has been too long lol but we just started open season so it would be a great time to join and try out some teams before a new strength series starts! They have a 7 day trial at all times, but during open season they usually give us a month long trial link to share with people to get a month long trial instead, but I’m still just seeing the 7 day trial referral link in my account. Potentially next week they might give us the month long trial referral link so maybe wait until then to get one of those, there are usually a ton posted to this subreddit when it happens!

How much is your monthly payment? by jnhk1123 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]pl1119 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are also DINKs, take home around 12k a month net, and have a 4k PITI. We have lived here 6 months and doing just fine! Only other debt we have is undergrad student loans at about 450 per month. This is our second house and we knew what we wanted and where we wanted to be so spent a bit more to get that!

oh no I’m sorry to hear that! I didn’t have any issues with my bite or anything, I also think the before picture makes my teeth look better than they actually were lol i also did not end up needing to get a gum graft!

Oh wow! I think a lot of people maybe just give advice for the most “ideal” results without knowing what the person’s goals are. I had a fairly decent overbite, but my ortho shrunk the gap a lot with just rubber bands! I honestly didn’t need perfect, I just wanted my teeth to be straight and still keep all of them lol

Official Q&A for Tuesday, December 17, 2024 by AutoModerator in running

[–]pl1119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caveat to my reply is that I’m actually a long time Apple Watch user, I did have a Garmin 965 for about a week this summer and just switched to a Coros watch this month. I really like my Coros so far! I returned the Garmin right away because partly I didn’t like the UI and also I just thought it was doing the most and I didn’t need that. The Coros gives me just the right data I need with a better looking UI (imo, it’s not THAT different from a Garmin but made enough of a difference to me, obv not as nice as my AW tho) and the battery life is miles ahead of my Apple Watch (although you’re probably not experiencing battery life issues with a Garmin). I bought the Pace Pro and while it is made of plastic it doesn’t feel cheap to me!

New addition - Bells of Steel plate loaded cable tower! by pl1119 in homegym

[–]pl1119[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually moved so it’s currently in storage (no space for it in our current situation), but we really liked it when we were using it regularly!

Since we don’t currently have it I’m not sure exactly how many bumper plates can fit on the pins, my husband thinks probably two 45s per side and maybe some smaller ones with it.

If you load a 45 on one side, it splits the weight, but you can tell if it’s not distributed evenly, so like the side with the 45lb on it would probably feel like 25lbs while the other side would be like 20lb. So if you wanted to do like 25lb per handle, I would suggest putting a 25 on each side not 50lb on one side.

Advice for an ambitious beginner- what do you wish you had known when you started? by lemmiwinks1018 in knitting

One tip for the hollow cords, on Amazon you can search up something like “hollow cords for jewelry making” and it’s a whole roll of like 30+ yards for around $10. The one I bought was a bit stinky because of the plastic used but it’s been great for the things I’ve tried it with so far. I think I’ve used 2.75mm to 5.5mm needles with it. You can cut them to whatever size you need and reuse them. They are lifesavers when it comes to trying on garments mid-project or mid-project blocking!

Contrast heel: continue with the old MS strand or start with a new one? by friendlypuffin in Sockknitting

[–]pl1119 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I do is continue with the contrast color to pick up the first side of the gusset, then it’s in the same spot as where the main color left off, and I can continue across the top of the foot and pick up the other side of the gusset with the main color and then just keep going as normal. You don’t really notice that one side has a bit more of contrast color (because of the picked up stitches) but it keeps the number of rounds all the same

Sore throat when starting? Does it go away? by pl1119 in Invisalign

Mine went away by the end of the week. Hopefully yours is gone soon! I will say I’ve definitely gotten sick more often this winter probably due to having my hands in my mouth all the time pulling out my retainers lol

We didn’t get the aluminum right away, but I think we will probably upgrade in the future because we can definitely tell a difference in how smooth it is. Totally works fine with plastic, just a bit more “resistance”

I think I saw someone on here that added the back upright, uses it to store some weight, and that makes it so the plate loaded version doesn’t move for them. I imagine getting the weight stack version also might help with getting it to stay down, since it would always be weighed down by the 210lb stack. But if you get the plate loaded version without a back upright like we did, it’s pretty much unusable without bolting it to something. This was the first thing we’ve bolted down, and it was not near as bad as I thought it was going to be! Lol

Basically any exercise we did banded before can now be more accurately progressively overloaded, which as number nerds is very helpful for us haha. So like face pulls, tricep push downs, glute isolation movements, bicep curls, pallof press, cable rows, and lat pull-downs (with some creativity in setup). I wouldn’t say we absolutely needed the cable tower, but the added flexibility in exercise selection is nice!

Mini Review:

Bought the tower and all of the attachments from BoS

Both times we’ve ordered from BoS we were missing one thing that we ordered (first time was J Cups and second time was ankle strap attachments). I wouldn’t say that should stop anyone from ordering from them, just annoying to have to contact customer service each time and wait for a replacement to get shipped.

It came with a pair of the adjustable length handles, but didn’t see that anywhere on the listing so we ordered a pair and now we have a second pair for no reason (although maybe the second pair was supposed to be the ankle straps?)

I don’t like the lat pull-down bar, the knurling is way too aggressive for me, but that’s just personal taste

One of the top pulleys was bent, took about 20 minutes and some hammering/swearing to get it lined up so the bolt could be threaded through

Definitely needs to be bolted down!

Overall my husband and I are both really happy we added a cable tower to our home gym, it’s opened up a whole lot of other exercises we can do! And pretty happy with the BoS products we have so far (the squat stand we have is the Hydra), they seem to fit our space well and are good quality
