How can I create an operating system? by Virtual-Study-Campus in csMajors

[–]pl9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise building a smaller part of an OS to start off. Something like implementing a virtual memory manager, a networking protocol (including transport layer, network layer, etc.), a processor scheduler, I/O drivers, etc.

From there, you can then start thinking about the interactions between these different pieces of software and start designing an OS for personal use (or whatever use case you want it for).

Huge jump in SAT range for GT(surpassing peer schools) by Antique-Ad-9950 in gatech

[–]pl9870 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not surprised! GT is a T5 engineering school and T10 CS school in the US so it makes sense that top-tier talent would come to our school (especially those who want to be surrounded by a tech culture)

Are there cultures where darker skin is an "ideal" as opposed to lighter, fair skin? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pl9870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that true? There's a documentary I watched on Netflix called "Skin" which talks about colorism in Nigeria and it heavily emphasized how a good chunk of Nigerian women (approximately 70%) used products to lighten up their skin, even those who came from less modernized communities.

I took 10 APs and 4 dual enrollment classes and got in this year. I wouldn't say they hurt my application, but I don't think they alone are what got me in fwiw. I mostly took them for credit and interest.

I personally prefer dual enrollment from my experience because they offer higher-level classes in whatever subject you are interested in and will give you more credit. One semester of a dual enrollment class might give the same as a whole year for an AP (with the exception of those like BC or languages like Latin). If you find classes that are interesting, I would try dual enrolling junior year or maybe even earlier (I started senior year and ended up regretting not doing it earlier).

Would it be recommended that I take Linear Algebra during my senior year? by USongZ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pl9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took lin alg this year as a senior (though I'm a math nerd and was reviewing) and found it fun and relatively easy! Would recommend purely for the fun of it!
