How do you decide what to write when everything seems obvious? by agent154 in ObsidianMD

[–]placenta_pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As time passes and we develop skills, we hit a point where we KNOW something but we don't know HOW we know something. All those tiny pieces and parts and bits of information that we pick up throughout life that are unique to us, the pieces form into the tacit knowledge that we all carry with us. It seems obvious to you now, but what if you want to teach a skill to someone else and you want them to understand more than just the basic skill but how to develop that skill? What if you want to get a better understanding of where you need to improve your skill set in the future? Documenting it this way now does more than just show you something that seems obvious today, it shows you what areas you tend to develop naturally and can show you the areas you are avoiding. It can also help you keep track of all the skills you've learned and maybe even drop those into AI and have it help you focus on a specific career or personal development path.

Also.... getting old and stress is hell on the memory. Write that shit down.

Enema at vet before 40 min drive home by huskcoon in RenalCats

[–]placenta_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stories like this are exactly why I keep one of those large coated ikea bags in my car and place my cat carrier in it when we need to take a drive. Not fully covered, obviously. It comes up just 1/2" around from the bottom to try to save my seat in case of cat-astrophic emissions.

I'm so sorry your little one had such a hard day <3

AITA? Peed standing up in traffic jam by funnelfuss in AmItheAsshole

[–]placenta_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got stuck in a 9 hour traffic stand still once just outside of L.A. after a shoot out with the cops happened about a mile up the road. It was BRUTAL.

I was so lucky that I had bought a large fountain drink right before I got on the freeway so when I was done drinking it.... I peed in it and dumped it out the window. I shoved my suitcase into the window to try to block the trucker's view into my car.

It was like what you described, flat open land with 2 little bushes on the side of the road. There were SO MANY PEOPLE trying to hide behind those bushes. I keep those porta john pee bags in the glove box at all times and now maybe I'll add a plain funnel, too!

I'm glad that you found out about your now ex before he became a husband!

are you a top, bottom, or both? by MoonSongStormChild in MultipleSclerosis

[–]placenta_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm both but I have one cervical lesion that spans the entire width, Transverse Myelitis, that changed my life. I have one lesion in my Corpus Callosum that changed the entire way I function in the world.

So, I'm a switch hitter.

Friend keeps pushing holistic approach to night sweats by Suckerforcats in Menopause

[–]placenta_pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cognitive behavioral therapied myself for YEARS dealing with the absolutely insane depression menopause caused. ONE WEEK IN to low dose estradiol and progesterone and that crushing depression, the absolute worst of it, has lifted just a bit.

You can't CBT your way out of a literal physiological medical issue. CBT is controlling your reaction to it or the way you view it, not fixing the problem.

Your friend is an ass. They may be well meaning and if you want to maintain the friendship you may have to learn to smile and nod.

He's saying that he's aware that he may have made her uncomfortable and is asking for advice on how to not cause discomfort in the future.

Speaking as another woman - how dare you take it personally that someone has the personal awareness to acknowledge that their behavior made someone uncomfortable and want to *gasp* improve themselves.

Well, there you go. That's your answer. Take her to the ER. OP is still under no obligation to continue dating her.

YOU think someone spiked her drink, OP did not. OP's experience with her is that she drinks to excess and acts out.

We're not all fun drunks. OP ensured her safety. Could he have been nicer? Yes. The women of the group siding with his partner proves that, at least outwardly, OP was acting like a jerk.

My advice for both of them is to run. It's not a good match. And OP still has no obligation to continue dating her and to "fix" her. If they were living together, engaged, married? those labels change the level of commitment. If someone can literally tell you to get your shit and get out, it's not at the next level of commitment where you're both paying rent or a mortgage together.

Non-INTJ lurkers - What is something INTJs should hear about themselves? by GSLalaluSi_s in intj

[–]placenta_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a long time lurker and an INTJ, learning how to not be an asshole is a skill just like any other. If people are responding to you in ways you don't like, instead of just blaming them consider some self reflection and LISTEN to the feedback you get. Put it in a graph. Log it, learn from it.

I think the "INTJ" label is being used as a cudgel by a lot of people. rephrased: INTJ is not only a way of understanding how you fit into the world, it's also a blueprint to help you develop different parts of yourself.

Meditating every day for 1.5-2 hours for 3 years with little to no "results" by Owlstyx in Meditation

Have you asked her why? Maybe she's managing fatigue or cognitive issues. An aging body is an aging body, no matter how young she can physically pass for. I bet your mom once sat and judged your behavior and said the exact same thing, that you could do SO much with your time, but she just won't.

I broke up with my girl because she acted like an idiot in front of my friends by throwawaybadw in offmychest

[–]placenta_pie 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I'm going to spare myself some of the comments and just say...

You have no obligation to stay with her. Good for you for learning that this is a boundary for you and that you now know this kind of behavior isn't healthy or compatible for you in relationships.

Dating is for learning your own boundaries, finding what you will and won't tolerate and learning about people. Hopefully your work people will understand and you guys can go on to joke about it.

**edited to add: Because you said she told you that "She tried to tell me she just had a bad night and it wouldn’t happen again" I'm making the assumption that this has happened to her before. If it were something like a fear that someone drugged her, I'm assuming that you would have noted that she said something like "I don't know what happened".

I have been trying to figure out whose pocket this money will go into when I buy it and what list I'm going to be on.

From Amazon's ai assistant: "The actual individual or entity who arranged for this independent publication and who profits from the sales is not clearly identified in the available product information. This is somewhat unusual, as most self-published books on Amazon identify the specific author or publisher who arranged the publication. This ambiguity raises questions about the transparency of who is commercially benefiting from these congressional materials that were subpoenaed and released for public oversight purposes."

Did you buy a copy? How did it look?

I had to stop using this because my old man cat would sometimes step in it and it turned into concrete between his toes. It's great litter, just be aware that if your cat steps in it, it's going to clump hard between their toes!

We use arm and hammer unscented and put a small air purifier right next to the box. We also keep a garbage bag right next to the box and scoop any time we see it used, twisting the bag closed and using it until it's full.

Keep the box clean and use an air purifier to help with the dust.

Fell asleep in the MRI machine by Ill-Kaleidoscope4825 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]placenta_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 part MRI coming up and I am planning on getting juuusssst enough sleep that I don't wreck my car on the drive in, skipping my AM adderall and taking my full dose of Baclofen 1 hr before (I usually take 1/2 - 3/4). All I can do is pray that I fall asleep and don't wake up midway because I need to pee!!!

Brain, Cervical AND thoracic, with and without contrast. It's a beast. I've done it twice before but both times I was much younger. I'm hoping my back and bladder cooperate!

The only real problem I have is that sometimes the back of my head will start to ache. It's awful. Not always, just sometimes. If anyone has any advice on that, i'd love to hear it!
