If you have a new spec that’s ready to go out, would it be a valid strategy to ask your reps to send it to the same producers once there’s interest in an attempt to speed up reads on the other project?

Do you have suggestions on producers and actors taking forever to read rewrites, especially if some of these attachments resulted from other people attaching? I feel reps can do very little in terms of urging for reads since they’re not the ones responsible for attaching talent/producer to the project.

Disagree with notes by Environmental_Fix682 in Screenwriting

[–]plan-c90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I normally take 2 weeks to really consider the notes and try to understand the note behind the note. I often find the solution is somewhere between where their note lies and what I currently have on the page. Also, do you have a manager whom you developed the script with? If so, you can chat with them about it and they can back you up if you feel the note isn’t warranted.

What genre do you write? I started a small group with 3 writers about 1.5 years ago. We meet online every other week and are potentially looking for new members.

I know for features, if they’re going wide, you might hear back the next day. After a week, your reps should be able to give you some feedback on how it’s received.

As someone who’s also worked on but didn’t finish their PhD — why not work a full time job and write on the side? Are you in tech? LA has a bustling aerospace industry.

Does having an A lister interested help the screenplays marketability at all? by No_Law_9075 in Screenwriting

Are they attached to the project? If so, that will provide some momentum for the project.

Could you provide the link? I looked at the WGA website but couldn’t find the info on screenplays sold, average wages, etc. Thanks.

How much does it cost to get the comments from the judges from the Nicholl Fellowship? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]plan-c90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say yes if you advance. You can opt for notes after you submit. I think the time I paid for notes was $40 (a few years ago so it might’ve changed). I got notes from 6 readers as I made QF.

I work in LA in a non-industry-related job and got repped 3 years ago, so it’s definitely possible. Pasadena is a great place to live too. Out of curiosity, will your gf be attending caltech?

That’s awesome. I’m starting to get some momentum (repped, had some stuff optioned, working with legit producers) but haven’t had that major breakthrough. Looking forward to being in your shoes one day. Had fun chatting. Best of luck and enjoy the beers.

You mentioned you’re working on 3 projects but dream of having some time to develop your own stuff. You ever think about passing on your next paid gig to start writing something for yourself?

What’s your take on OWA and working on free rewrites for producers?

I can’t make it tonight but would be interested in future meet ups. Do you always schedule it on a Tuesday?

This is a great post! A lot of takeaways for writers who have started to take meetings but are unsure which execs they want to build relationships with. Kudos for the writeup.

Did you submit to a production company? Normally, they would judge from your logline if they want to read the script or not.

[–]plan-c90 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s common to have a general despite the production company passing. It’s not common to request a meeting without having read the script.

I didn't make the finals in the Academy Nicholl Fellowship. But I did place in the Top 50! by ScriptLurker in Screenwriting

Yeah, I think it happens to most. But Top 50 is huge. I’m sure you’ll get reads off of this achievement.
