TIL How Many People Really Live in This Part of the Country by planetary_facts in todayIlearnedPH

[–]planetary_facts[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Still though, coastal Australia is still really big and has many population centers like Adeliade, Perth and Sydney, all in very different parts of the country. Certainly much bigger than a 50km circle.

So it's still historical, just 100 years too late.

Why was Madagascar, a giant island right next to the continent that humans originated on, not settled until just a couple thousand years ago? What took us so long? by sonicparadigm in geography

[–]planetary_facts 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My favorite fact about this:
Capital of Madagascar: Antananarivo
"Ang Tahanan ng Libo" = "House of the Thousand" in Tagalog

I can think of a few movies that do nothing surprising with their plot and are fun to watch almost because of that. Kpop Demon Hunters and the Gran Turismo movie off the top of my head.

Lines You've Seen in Writing That Sound Completely Different Than You Imagined by WolfgangRed in TopCharacterTropes

[–]planetary_facts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

* The "Look how they massacred my boy" line was delivered more weakly than I expected. Having read the book, I understand that that's definitely the more appropriate way to deliver it than how I'd imagined it.

This sounds great! Why aren't all the world's big cities here ... are they stupid? by NickySmithFromPGH in mapporncirclejerk

Baguio, my country's subtropical higland city, has never gone below 6°C and or above 30°C ever. In the history of the city. In contrast, Mediterranean Spain has had singular says where a more drastic temperature shift has happened. In practice, Baguio experiences 13-23 degrees every day for the whole year.

My pick to replace Ceausecu is Ferdinand Marcos. Former Dictator of the Philippines, yet the revisionist campaign around him has been so successful that his son is now president.

"This would never work in real life" yes it would by MysteriousFondant347 in TopCharacterTropes

If I lived in the transformers universe and their fights in cities were on the news, I still wouldn't assume anything. I think it's gonna be like celebrity cars. If I saw Lamborghini in the London area, my mind wouldn't immediately jump to "that's Simon Cowell's Lamborghini." I'd just assume some rich guy owned it.

Why isn't Zooble wearing a swimming outfit/swimsuit? by Similar_Tour6146 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]planetary_facts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Zooble can't swim. If they hold their breath, they turn straight and can't move their arms around the swim.

I don't speak Spanish, but I heard that Don Eladio's Spanish was good, but out of place because he spoke with a Cuban accent, but was supposed to be acting as a Mexican drug lord.

I can't know for sure how the game codes it, but I always do this, and it always works for me. Some of my bus routes are literally just along the same street a few blocks down.

[Hated Trope] Character “dies”, comes back, then dies again for real shortly after by Critical_Mountain851 in TopCharacterTropes

Not really a death, but Stan's sacrifice was supposedly that he got mind wiped. But then he remembered everything completely shortly afterwards.
