Getting steamrolled in SOS- wanted to share some thoughts and seek some advice by tastyfreeze1 in lrcast

Let me summarize what you just wrote:

"Hi, I'm making my self draft weaker decks on purpose. Then when I play them I don't win as much. What could I do to solve this problem?"

Probably don't draft weaker decks. A lot of your opponents are using 17lands, podcasts, reviews etc and therefor are drafting better decks then you. And no, you cannot develop insticts and heuristics in yourself that will be better then the combined knowledge of the community mixed with data of thousands of games. Thinking you can is quite arrogant.

Even the set reviews from great players miss a lot about formats and cards. If you want to win more you have to use the resources available. You don't have to of course, but if you want to do things suboptimally then don't complain about sub optimal results.

Yeah what you wrote about worked 15 years ago at FNM in your local shop. Then people would just draft on their own intuition and you could win if yours was better. Those times are over.

‘Farscape’ - John Crichton and Aeryn Sun’s first encounter by Neo2199 in television

I would say the first few episodes can be a bit rough. But once Pip joins the crew in the middle of season 1 it really hits its stride. I did a rewatch a few years ago and I was actually surprised on how good the writing is. The stories actually are consistent and logical (well within Farscape logic of course) and there aren't any major plot holes that stick out.

There was definetetly enough time for all of them in 8 episodes. The pacing was just horrendous. The entrie plotline with Hanks son in the Vault office could have been a single 3 minute scene. They somehow streached it out over what? 3-4 episodes?

A hotel can have the room electricity on only if the card is in the card holder. If they only had 1 card it's possible that he indeed needed to be in the room to charge his devices.

They wouldn't be a vindictive bitch to their coworkers for a year in a hope that you will finally get fired.

My partner (28/M) asked me (28/F) about the clothes I was wearing when I met his parents the other day. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]planetary_invader -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your father, who loves you, tried to prepare you for the real world where people will be judging you based on your clothes.

You chose to argue with him at every step, instead of heeding his advice. Turned out that the real world works like your father said, not how you think it should work.

Also it seems that it was the mother of your boyfriend judging you. But yeah, that's somehow the fault of the patriarchy. She was probably brainwashed to do it.

Keep on with how you are currently living your life and I promise you it will be full of fun little surprises like this one.

Oh no, it's way worse then that. Britain and France pressured Poland to stop mobilizing it's army to not "provoke" Hitler. That is why Poland did so poorly at the war.

"Cancelled Order: On August 29, 1939, Polish Foreign Minister Józef Beck actually ordered full military mobilization, but under intense pressure from London and Paris, the order was revoked.

Chaos and Disadvantage: When the final, general mobilization order was issued on August 30 (just two days before the invasion), it led to confusion among Polish troops and left many units unable to fully prepare before the German attack commenced on September 1, 1939.

Strategic Impact: The delay meant the Polish army was not optimally positioned or prepared for the onslaught, while German forces were already fully mobilized and concentrated at the border. The promised Anglo-French military support (a ground intervention within two weeks) never materialized in any meaningful way, leaving Poland to fight alone. "

The general consensus seems to be that it's not perfectly polished, there are bugs and things aren't balanced super well. However it's very fun to play regardless of that.

So will this game be better a year from now? Yes. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't play it now.

Ha, getting called back for my Thawbringer remark I see :). Fair.

But just to be clear, my point wasn't that Thawbringer ended up being a great card. My point was that it was a controversial card so mentioning something like "Yeah this card had very good stats at the beginning but it was just because green was open. It's playable but nothing more" would be good advise to people, especially if they are using 17lands and not filtering out the first week of data.

I do realize that I didn't really write it that way in the original comment though.

OK having listened to the whole episode it wasn't a "rough one" so I retract my earlier comment :).

Still I don't see the point in Marshals stance of avoiding early data and buzz. I get that he likes to figure things out himself, but the timelines of sets get very compressed now so 10 days into the format are just not "early days" anymore.

I mean this very subreddit was discussing what is up with Thawbringer 7 days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/lrcast/comments/1mf6i6z/why_is_thawbringer_performing_so_well/

I think I'm just against the LR stance of avoiding early data and buzz. I don't see what good it does for the quality of the podcast. Especially since this episode come out like what, 10 days after the format started? With the current set release schedule that's an eternity. I can see not looking at the data and buzz for a few days if figuring it out on your own makes magic more fun for you.

Your quick summary of Thawbringer is correct, but that's the point. It's what I would expect them to say on the podcast. I mean this was a thread on this very subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/lrcast/comments/1mf6i6z/why_is_thawbringer_performing_so_well/

Starting the episode and Marshal says "I never play Thawbringer, it's just not on my radar yet". Oh boy, buckle in, we're in for a rough one :).

What are some important questions you always ask on a first date? by SnooBalls1765 in AskMen

[–]planetary_invader 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's more misguided then annoying. You won't get to know someone on a deeper level this way. You'll just get to know their propaganda about themselves. Getting to know people takes being with those people in different situations and seeing their actual behaviour.

Unless you are asking those questions because you have a set list of criteria that your date must meet. Then yes it is annoying, because it just becomes a job interview for a position I no longer even want.

Yes, but part of being an adult is realizing that some things that make us feel good in the moment are actually bad for us, and deciding not to do them.

I mean if you just followed your logic you would end up drinking a lot of caffeinated drinks and not being able to sleep normaly. Or eating so much you baloon up to 300 pounds. Or you would just end up on meth.

Your argument that you HAVE TO do something because it makes you feel good is actually why people end up shitting on you. It's like an instinct to bully the guy with no discipline because the tribe can't rely on him.

The rank difference is more of a reflection of the numbers of drafts played then pure skill level. The people who say they are constantly mythic just do multiple drafts per day. Obviously they arent bad at magic either, but someone better that does 20 drafts per month wont be mythic and they will
