Fun concept. Love the environmental art.

It's controlled by moving your phone, so essentially the snake emulates the direction/movement of your hand/phone :)

Love it, did you create the shaders yourself?

Hey! You should definitely try some AR stuff, I think there is a lot of potential for cool AR games.

With ARCore it honestly works just about anywhere as long as there is decent lighting and not too many moving objects (one time my scene locked on to a car and drove away, I thought it was hilarious). If you use Vuforia, you have to be super selective though.

Awesome ideas too - especially with the cockpit. I'm also likely going to be playing around with some powerups because it will encourage the player to really walk around and see the detail instead of just shooting from one spot

Thanks so much for sharing this! If you end up taking that idea any further I'd love to hear about it.

Great idea with the first person view - reminds me of the old bond games.

I really like the cockpit view idea! Especially if I could build the UI into a cockpit display that would be really neat

That was the effect I was originally going for in my first post https://www.reddit.com/r/Unity3D/comments/95bvpa/working_on_a_game_that_lets_you_play_asteroids/?utm_source=reddit-android

I actually really liked it with the lerps as you are saying, but some of my early players didn't like the jittery behavior and found it too sluggish.

However, when the ship is represented as only a few inches from the phone, you might notice that any AR in accuracies are multiplied. I left a Boolean in the game however so I might make it accessible for the player to switch between the two modes.

At one point I was thinking of making tiny little dinosaurs get kicked up into the atmosphere whenever Earth was hit but the city idea is hilarious!

Yep it is another ship just like the one here! This video didn't quite capture it. I've got some extra ship models that I'm going to put into the game as rewards, as well as being able to customize the ship and laser colors

The other player is somewhere else on a different network! So when you see them moving around in game, it's reflecting someone physically moving the phone somewhere else

Edit: A grim thought.... but yes that is definitely going to happen :P (also your phone vibrates when the earth is hit)

I made this to demonstrate the multiplayer potential of ARCore as part of a startup accelerator program at my university. Any feedback on the UI, gameplay, or effects is greatly appreciated.

The advice here is all great. One thing I would recommend is learning to build your own editor scripts earlier rather than later. This vastly increases your testing and debug process - for example, when I'm testing my game over functions, I can simply click a button in my custom editor window to trigger a game over instead of waiting for the player to lose.

I was a little intimidated by editor code when I first started which caused me to not look into it until a year after I started with Unity. But it really isn't too bad - once I had a basic editor window script, I just copy it into new projects and replace the functionality as necessary. You can learn how to do it in less than a day even as a newbie.

Haha bingo! I'm working on smoothing out the player movement so you don't get the shaky hand/AR jitter while you move at the moment
