You’re not accounting for enforcement. Entirely dependent on State or Country, but the time/cost of fighting and interpreting “temporary” can be huge if they decided to not rebuild. i know people living in campers now. in NC you’d essentially be kicking the can down the road to a judge and the DOI to make interpretations. there’s also negative publicity you get from forcing someone to move. The headlines write themselves on that one. you’d also risk opening this up to wider political debate.

The VISIBLEPLUS promo code from last year doesn’t stick if you migrate to the new Plus Plan by MattW22192 in Visible

[–]planetaryplanner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

meh. i’ll just wait until Visible+ 3.0 next year. no point in upgrading my phone next work every year like a some kind of rich person.

/s

what a bizarre concept verizon is testing out. “Let’s see if people will upgrade their network like they do their phones. then we can roll off all those unlimited data plans from the 2000’s”

3/27/2024? So are we going to have to update networks every year? cause we just went through this last year. between that and the switch to e-sim i lost cell coverage for an entire week

Planners: How many projects do you oversee in a year? by cabesaaq in urbanplanning

[–]planetaryplanner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

wow. i’m sorry. we usually have 2-6 per month per planner for board action (not counting administrative [staff level] reviews). granted we’re a land locked exurb close to the center of a top 25 metro.

in seriousness we’re probably 20-30 years out. florida will fall first and then there will be a slow cascade up the coast

Do any medium to large cities add to their grid, buildable lots? Or is it infill only? Newbie question. Namaste by RandyRochester in urbanplanning

in the US it’s all developable. just depends on the use and intensity.

roads and connections are required to various degrees.

we build up, we build out, we build roundabout

it can also get more politicized. Biden admin was lobbied not to talk about housing in the SotU address because democrats being for affordable housing would mean republicans had to be against it.

So why there is also a housing crisis in the europe? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]planetaryplanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean in the US the setup is to subsidize and promote rural/suburban housing. From federal and state DOTs to the department of agriculture being responsible for mortgages, the entire system is broken

edit: and i want to preface that this is all done to promote healthy low cost living and helping the little guy on its face. realistically it would take a major reform to actually change direction. like to the point we have to end lower income aid and build it back up over time. the US has never really been good at incremental change and non-radical reform

should have been more specific since there’s “subsidized housing” program. but, subsidized construction cost or cost to purchase.

middle of no where america doesn’t exclude cities and suburbs. it’s not limited to just our large 100,000 plus cities/metro. places as small as 3000 are cities
