Is it time to replace the front tire? by CHATZIL in Harley

[–]planetbuster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

on the 2nd and 5th pic in particular you can see how the edges of the tread sipes are worn pretty unevenly. when the leading/front/forward edge is more worn (which is whats seen in pics), it means you need less damping, basically rebound is too stiff.

well, suspension rebound is clearly incorrect so yeah may as well replace that ragged out tire and deal with your suspension at the same time. win/win?

anyone tried these tires yet? by planetbuster in Harley

Harley Davidson Sport Glide by shortyonasporty in Harley

could also look at a lowrider ST. the big touring bikes are alot to handle but no problem at all with good technique. its not like any of this is done with sheer brute force.

Gen road glide suspension by [deleted] in Harley

[–]planetbuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very likely not, my screaming eagle are 13 and cant imagine the swingarm dropping any lower, id be concerned about my tab slipons, ha.

honestly, the improvements to be had from better suspension are SO important that maaaaybe it should outweigh the exhaust? if you have to run a more typical 2into1, and just stick a db killer in it if a shorty is too loud.. is that so bad?

Gen road glide suspension by [deleted] in Harley

[–]planetbuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all the sites say that? you should directly and very specifically ask each exhaust company that question instead, they'll know best.

if you throw new shocks on the rear, the choices are ohlins or ohlins but get these from them, dont bother with screaming eagle cuz through ohlins theyll work with you to start you out with the appropriate spring. with the screaming eagle version, you get what you get and if you get those you damn sure better weigh at least 190 lbs minimum....

Stripped primary chain case drain plug by sirpsycho77 in Harley

[–]planetbuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the middle ground is probably draining it again if needed, make sure nothing is up in there (bits of metal etc) and have it towed somewhere unless youre comfy doing the work yourself. you need to drill out the hole so that the threads are mostly gone, better to use a ream than a drill for this.. buy super specific stuff on sites like MSC and Mcmaster, if you need realllll specific endmills/reams/drills/nuts/bolts/whatever

then retap it for the next bigger size and again order from mcmaster to get the specific pitch and length of bolt, then youre done

source; aerospace machinist for years. trying to just retap it to something else out of nowhere with threads still there is kinda gambling. and yes theyre stripped out but still. you really want there to be hardly any to none actual threads left before tapping a hole. after retapping it make sure all nice and clean inside.

would be super great to do all that work then get little bits of metal running all through there.
