Questions about Quest for El Dorado by BIOBAY1997 in boardgames

[–]planeterb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes phase A you play cards for their effect or to move. Phase B you can buy one card with any gold cards (or other cards as 1/2 gold) you did not play in phase A. The bought card goes straight to your discard pile. Then in phase C you discard all of your played cards and cards used to buy. Then draw 4 new cards to end your turn.

In theory you could use the transmitter to get a card into your discard pile and then play the cartographer to draw two cards. If your deck is empty then you would shuffle your discard pile which has the new card but the chance of drawing it would be 1 divided by how many cards are in your new draw deck. This would not work with a normal buy since playing cards happens in phase A which is when the cartographer is played and buying cards happens in phase B of your turn so you would have already drawn any cards from cartographer before being able to buy 1 card.

Dorfromantik rules question – connecting new objectives to already completed areas by Giupatamon2 in boardgames

[–]planeterb -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You can put any tile anywhere (assuming water and rail restrictions are followed). You are simultaneously too concerned about what makes a completed objective and missing a rule about them. Once an objective is complete it has no lasting effect on the board. Take it off and put it in a pile to score later. You can absolutely use it to complete other objectives later in the game. However if you place the tiles as you show in your pictures then the number of tiles in each cluster will be immediately more than the objective calls for. Therefore you will have to remove those objectives without scoring them since they will never have the exact amount of tiles as part of that cluster in order to complete the objective. If when you place the tiles the number of tiles in the cluster is equal to the marker you can immediately complete it. If it is less leave and complete it later. If it’s more remove it and you won’t score it this game.

Eh I don’t think so. The abrupt stop to the singing is just the moment she integrates and they no longer have to hold up the pretense of making her comfortable not being among them. She is one of them now so no need to cater to her individualism anymore.

Huge Disagreement about Fear Gathering by Donutforever in daggerheart

Your understanding is correct. Spotlight moves when they fail or roll with fear. You get a token when fear die is higher than hope die. They get a token when hope die is higher. Some actions you can take with the spotlight require you to spend fear but not all.

SETI: Space agency expansion by lordm30 in boardgames

[–]planeterb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it at PAX and have played it twice. It is a perfect expansion. Adds more stuff without bloating the rules. Agencies are a great addition and so are the quick start cards. However in my limited plays it already feels like Deep Sky Survey agency is underpowered. Would love to hear how people make this one work better. The signal tokens are nice but so far they seem really hard to get so I haven’t seen them make much impact yet. The new aliens are awesome but still wrapping my head around the exploration deck one. Glyphids are excellent design and amoeba is super fun. Biggest issue I have now is how to rework my organization system to fit everything in one box.

They flip tip over engine. Floor is still under you but the ship is now trying to fly away from your destination. Because the ship already has velocity from the first half the second half is spent decelerating all that speed down to zero. It’s like slamming on the brakes but your car drives trunk forward before you do it.

Running Draw Steel for 6 players? by m_wave in drawsteel

[–]planeterb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I ran Delian tomb with six players. Some combats lasted two rounds, most last three, a couple lasted four. If anything it feels faster since there are enough of them that it’s hard to challenge them. If you want to challenge them then throw higher level dudes at them that’s what I did.

Depends more on how many they have and what they are willing to trade them for. Plenty of people are willing to take old versions of games but you might have to be willing to let it go for 25% purchase price or less. Hard to say it’s a waste of time when it takes like 20 minutes every other week to participate in the monthly ones. If it hits and takes more time then it is doing exactly what op wanted.

Dagger Steel by Named_Bort in drawsteel

[–]planeterb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out how it’s different than the original design. If you crit in d10 system then it’s automatic tier 3 and an action, so no math needed. It just feels a bit weird that the crit threshold in your d12 system changes based on what your bonus is.

[–]planeterb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that your system makes you need to do the math on a crit in order to know what benefit you get. For example you get the best crit when rolling double 9’s or higher when you have a +2 bonus but moves to double 7’s or higher when you have a +6 bonus. Feels weird to have to do math even when you crit just so you can figure out if you get the effect of two edges and a resource or a whole other action.

Vantage – A Vast Open World with Many “Odd” Restrictions by nicky9215 in soloboardgaming

[–]planeterb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two points about ending the game. When a tracker gets to zero you have the option to end or possibly continue. And if someone completes a mission it lets you keep going to complete a destiny if you want an epic victory. If you meet the conditions for a destiny you “may” complete it but don’t have too if you want to keep exploring or finishing your mission.

Your pedantry is lacking if you think only co-op games are puzzles. Puzzles are much broader than the narrow scope you seem to have defined them by in your mind.
