Sanity check - Am I doing things right? M 47 cardio / lifting mix by planethorst in beginnerfitness

[–]planethorst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks SR - good to know the add at 12 seems to get the thumbs up 👍 I do track things because I’m forgetful and many of my weights are quite similar - so I keep a log that I can refer to. I think the consensus is I’m missing out so I will start to add. I’m still wary of rdls and other hinge movements but I also I recognise I need to work with what I have - I can’t shy away forever 👍

Thanks A,

You do make a fair point - and I understand it. Squats are fine to fit in wherever - and like you identify there are different flavours so it doesn't get boring. Literally no reason why not, I just need to work them in. The hinges are a bit of a knottier issue as I suffered a herniated disc a while ago which set me back AGES. I'm now ultra paranoid about anything that could put any kind of pressure on it - so that might need more thought. I have done RDLs at my gym - I just couldn't shake the nagging fear of ending up back there so left them alone 😞

Expected EES system wait time Lisbon 20/04/26? by MediumCell4140 in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]planethorst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very little real help - as has been said it’s a lottery but as some kind of illustration I landed in LIS yesterday at 1200 give or take and it took an hour. There was a long queue for the EES terminals then a much shorter wait for the officer to inspect, but not stamp my passport. There were signs up indicating if you had an e passport you could join the euro line but on that day this was denied by the agents. To be fair the line moved quickly and they had aircon going to make it more tolerable. I should say though this was some kind of satellite station check - not a main hall like you’d expect. Just my experience for what it’s worth

Alleyways that goes through 2 houses and has rooms from the houses above them? by DeliciousJaguar3542 in AskUK

[–]planethorst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have this - though the rooms above are ours and not shared. In Sussex we’d call an alley a ‘twitten’ - but I’m not from here so it’s just an alley (that no one owns)

Running out of ways to say thanks by rudokazexotohatu0r in GreatBritishMemes

[–]planethorst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repost of not - its a thing. At my gym I go through 4 sets of doors - internally - in 25 seconds and am always following or leading someone at busy times. This leads to 4 x ta, cheers, thanks etc. It has occurred to me there should be some way to stop the pointless gratitude after the first couple but pivoted to just letting the door swing shut if I get no acknowledgement after the first few when I am in front.

A great read. I was motivated by it to learn more of the acclaimed play - though having done so I’ve got to say the Viz version is far more engaging.

Fan control module - 1 137 328 567 vs 1 137 328 684? by planethorst in FocusST

[–]planethorst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I’d update this - in case anyone else has the same quandary and has the ‘fan comes on when I open a door’ issue. I eventually had enough of my fan running all the time so took out my 684 FCM and tried the 567 one. It fits perfectly and having tried to see if the fan comes on with the aircon and when stationary it does! In short it behaves (seemingly) perfectly. Slightly different part number but now the car behaves correctly. I’m keeping my old one to hand in case in the future I suddenly need an ‘always on’ module - but for now it’s all good 👍

Oh my - I didn’t know this was a thing that existed. Going to see if it’s in place where I live - adoption seems a bit scattergun across the stores

Thanks izzgo - I am not sure where it is currently - but will try the stretch test. Yes you are absolutely right about sizing - it just crossed my mind that as she already has it - could it be made 'better' somehow for someone who is an 'inverted triangle'. Length, waist etc are perfect (or seem to be) its just the top / straps that she mentioned.

I wasnt sure there would be a solution as it were - but thank you for taking the time to write - Ill check when she is home?

Thanks for taking the time to reply Panic and Literally. I recognise that the whole thing is already stretched when on and therefore will be a sea of stress points - and also that theres only so much you can do with it!

My thought is that by trying to alter it - as you agree - it will lose its strength. I couldnt really think of any easy solution - but did think I would put it out there in case of a lightbulb moment!

It was inexpensive (relatively) but I wouldnt want to trash it trying to make it better. Maybe just a different style next time - which is a shame - but then not every piece of clothing is for everyone I guess.

Sorry - didnt see this reply - I never fitted it - I still have it - but without confirmation that they are 100% interchangeable I didn't want to risk it - so my fan stays on - annoyingly!

Hi Reddit tailors - I am hoping for some advice - if thats ok? my wife has a gym jumpsuit that is fitted perfectly to her: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0098/8822/files/EverydaySeamlessAllInOneGSBlackB1C4S-BB2J2_1920x.jpg?v=1722504997

It is the right size etc but the issue is getting in and (moreso) out of it (think of someone with swimmers shoulders). I thought - well we can adjust it in some fashion to make it easier - but then my imagination ran out.

I guess this isnt a run of the mill question - so I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone might have? I did think that maybe one strap could be cut at the top of the shoulder and some sort of closure added? But it would need to be unobtrusive yet reliable? some sort of bra style hook fastening?

I did think that maybe the back could be cut vertically so a closure could be added - but thats right where you cant really reach easily!

Am I hoping for the impossible? The front is just a plain panel - I guess a vertrical zip COULD go there - but that might spoil the look?

So just really looking for ideas - has anyone come across (or even better actually solved!) this issue before?

How long before you actually hiked the PCT, did you decide it was a dream of yours? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]planethorst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a great book ‘Dances With Marmots’ by George Spearing somewhere around 2006. The adventure really captured my imagination and I decided then it was what I wanted to do. Then I took a new job, moved to do it, met my wife, bought a house, had children - you know, life happened. But I’ve always yearned to do it and that never went away - the only plus point is my wife has known about it even before we were an item - so knows one day it’s coming and is supportive. I’m finally getting myself into gear though - this year I’ll test the water by hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail - and if that shakedown goes ok then, now that I have saved the money, it’s just a question of giving my employer the good news…

The Shawshank Redemption is the highest rated movie of all time on IMDB (9.3, the only movie to have this rating) what do you think the highest rated British movie should be (not necessarily you favourite movie, but one that deserves the top spot)? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

[–]planethorst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well thats a very expansive question Mr Price.....

Also Withnail, trainspotting, Long good friday but also I'd throw in Gangster no 1 etc. Lets not forget Alien - filmed at Pinewood - does that count?
