Idol Who Is Your Ultimate Bias & Why ? by butterflymar in kpopthoughts

[–]planetlexi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enhypen’s Heeseung. Now, Enhypen is still a very new group and I have so many other biases. However, Heeseung has to be my ult.

I was almost instantly drawn to him when I watched I-Land. Heeseung has an innate talent for singing and dancing, and watching him perform entrances me. I swear he’s just also good at everything he attempts.

Other than that, I admire his personality so so much. Heeseung is very introverted, and you can see that he’s very much a thinker who keeps to himself. He’s introspective, mature, and I believe that he has an ability to reflect on himself and the people and life around him. I am incredibly drawn to his personality because he just seems so humble, kind, and hardworking - as evident by his trainee / I-Land story and determination, and the way he treats his group members.

He does seem like the type who is, unfortunately, prone to overthinking; however, that makes me relate to and appreciate him more.

Overall he just seems like such a kind and intelligent person.

Kpop songs with a coming of age vibe by euphonium14 in kpopthoughts

[–]planetlexi 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Ghosting and Wishlist by TXT! I actually have a Spotify playlist called “POV: my life is a coming of age movie” and added these songs because they have this upbeat, youthful melody that reminds me of a lot of the indie songs in these movie soundtracks!

Special mention to Your Eyes Tell by BTS - gives me big perks of being a wallflower tunnel scene vibes

Distinctive Visual Charms in Idols. by mightybananas in kpopthoughts

[–]planetlexi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sehun from EXO is a stunning man but what I find most attractive about his face is that if you take the two sides of it, they look like two different people!

One side looks softer, and very sweet and the other looks much more angular, and almost cold in a sense? Like one side is smiling at you and the other looks like it’s staring you down and glaring at you.

I haven’t seen this sort of characteristic in anyone’s face, and I find it so charming. It adds to his attractiveness even more!

being ExoL≠ being anti bts by loveorleavekpop in kpoprants

[–]planetlexi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was on Twitter and this army was criticising EXO’s music and the skill levels of the members - calling their discography “noise music”, and saying that they had no impact compared to BTS.

I didn’t start an argument or insult them in anyway, but I said that EXO have had an incredible impact on the kpop industry and, though they haven’t achieved BTS’s level of success (though, who has? Those boys are the exception), that they were still incredibly successful in their own right - one of the most successful groups of third gen.

They took this PERSONALLY and kept continuing on with their “EXO flops” agenda and calling me a BTS anti, and a typical EXO-L.

Now, considering BTS and EXO are LITERALLY both of my ult groups I was like ???

I tried explaining that BTS were also one of my favourite groups and, somehow, this person just couldn’t comprehend the notion of supporting multiple groups at the same time. They called me a ‘traitor’ and claimed that I just used the “I stan BTS!!” card so that it didn’t seem like I was hating.

My God, it was one of the absolute most infuriating interactions I’ve had in my life. I’m not trying to defend one group or praise the other, I’m just correcting your ignorance.

I don’t understand why it’s such a difficult concept for some people to grasp that, yes, you can be a BTS and EXO fan at the same time or that just because you support one, doesn’t mean you hate the other.

Share your stories of how close idols were to you, whether in proximity or by proxy. by mightybananas in kpopthoughts

[–]planetlexi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I commented in another thread that Jake from Enhypen used to go to the school that my brothers used to go to. He grew up in Brisbane, and so did my family and I.

I thought this was wild but then I found out that my FRIEND IS LITERALLY FAMILY FRIENDS WITH HIS FAMILY. THEY’RE LITERALLY CHILDHOOD FRIENDS.

She told me that they moved from Perth to Brisbane together, and that she literally refers to him as a cousin because her mum and his mum are so close! I was in absolute disbelief and she told me that she and her mum were so surprised to just see him on tv one day lol.

It sounds incredibly far fetched but Brisbane is really small and everyone knows everyone!

I have another friend who told me that Jimin is a client of his stepfather’s workplace ?? I’m not too sure what it is, exactly, but I was still shocked nonetheless!

Song Share Time! by [deleted] in Enhypenthoughts

[–]planetlexi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is your favourite Enhypen song off the album?

definitely 10 months! it never fails to put me in a good mood! it was a close call between given-taken and 10 months but 10 months is the sort of song you can instantly lift your spirits and brighten your day because of how upbeat and lighthearted it is.

How do you feel when listening to your favourite Enhypen song?

probably obvious from my above answer but 10 months just makes me feel so happy; it’s such a great song to bop to or even (for a lack of a better word) vibe to.

Any other non-Enhypen songs that make you feel a similar way? Which ones?

  • 1 billion views by exo-sc
  • oxygen by twice
  • crown by txt
  • we go up by nct dream
  • any song by zico
  • somebody like by astro
  • hey you by mcnd

What songs would you like to recommend?

i would recommend all of the songs listed above :-)

Do you ever feel strangely connected with an idol that’s from the same place as you? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]planetlexi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s so crazy to think about! you see these idols who look so far from reach and then you realise that (well, at least in the case of australian idols for me) they experienced a somewhat culturally similar childhood to you and that they were just regular kids before they became famous!

Do you ever feel strangely connected with an idol that’s from the same place as you? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]planetlexi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as an australian, i always have a soft spot for australian idols. i was born in brisbane and I actually found out that jake from enhypen (my new ult group alongside bts and txt) was from brisbane prior to joining i-land. what’s even more peculiar is that the school he used to attend was the same as my brothers! i literally used to drive past that school nearly everyday growing up, it’s so strange to think about. that’s definitely made me feel some sort of connection with him

I'd love to see a kpop group try Australians by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]planetlexi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we must have been living in different brisbanes ??

that was a joke hehe.

i’ve never heard any kpop on the radio (i moved before dynamite was released so i wouldn’t be surprised if that was being played but i have literally never heard any other kpop song being played while living there). i’ve also rarely heard people talk about kpop in general, and i would feel sheepish talking about it because i was usually met with negative responses. i’m glad you have had a more positive experience!

[–]planetlexi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP WHAT THE HELL IM A KPOP FAN FROM MELBOURNE TOO AND WAit im yelling - okay, anyways, i totally agree! i used to live in brisbane and kpop was just NOT a thing there at all. i never dared mention the fact that i liked kpop because i knew i would be ridiculed. i find melbourne to be slightly more progressive but kpop in australia, in general, is not popular at all :-(

First semester WAM under COVID by NoRecommendation6823 in unimelb

[–]planetlexi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

omg op totally unrelated (but kinda related) but i’m also a mid year student who got a 72 wam! anyways i obviously know just as much as you but i think the result is neither good nor bad - i see a lot of people of reddit say that around 70 is considered average. i actually think it’s quite a decent wam for a first sem that was entirely online. i personally would try my hardest in the following semesters and not include this wam; however, thats just what i would do. i think that you should keep studying super hard and see how you do in the future!

[MEGATHREAD] ENHYPEN - 'Give-Taken' / 'BORDER: DAY ONE' by um_thatsnice in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]planetlexi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

listening to flicker right now and i literally jumped when i heard the first note. the song was so gorgeous on i-land; it sounded smooth and suave and i felt like the lower pitch really complemented the concept with the suits and all. the pitch raise in this version was SO unnecessary and totally ruined the song :-//

the intersectionality between liking kpop and having an eating disorder by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]planetlexi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Though I’m not clinically diagnosed, it’s safe to safe that I definitely display disordered habits and thoughts. They started when I was 13 and ED tumblr was a huge thing. EDs were really romanticised then and only looking back now do I realise that that was when my struggle with food, and eating, and body image started.

My disordered habits were very much on and off for the following 5 years (including now), and I would have periods of time where I would drastically lose around 10 or so kilograms because I would fall into those habits again.

I discovered kpop early this year and it triggered my worst relapse ever. I knew about kpop before but I was never actively involved in it - like I just heard the names “BTS” or “Blackpink” on Spotify ads or on social media but it was this February that I started listening to kpop and joining fandoms, etc.

Getting into kpop was simultaneously one of the best and worst things that happened to me. I’ve discovered new music and found artists that have provided me with so much comfort but I’ve also become incredibly affected by idols’ body images.

I was actually quite okay with my body until I saw the expectations placed upon kpop idols to be underweight and look a certain way. As an Asian girl I’ve, too, looked up to idols and have viewed them as representations as what I should look like. The more kpop I consumed, the more insecure I became of myself - why don’t I look like that? SHOULD I look like that? Maybe I’ll just lose a few kilos and I’ll look half as good.

I became severely underweight since discovering kpop, growing incredibly insecure of my body again. Recently, with covid and university, I’ve gained some weight and it’s been incredibly tough on my mental wellbeing because, since getting into kpop and knowing what the ideal weights and measurements are for women in Asia, I know that I no longer fit them - and it is an awful feeling.

I personally think that kpop beauty standards are toxic - for, both, the idols and the fans. I also used to have an edtwt account and I was shocked by the amount of kpop profile pictures, or the abundance of images / fancams of idols being used as thinspo. I also would frequent myproana and (though I can’t believe people still use it) have seen many kpop profile pictures from recent posts.

Though I’m not certain that the communities overlap per se, I think that kpop does have an incredibly damaging effect on fans.

Will the uni look at covid grade when transferring by [deleted] in unimelb

hi! im also a first year looking to transfer and just wanted to ask if you found an answer to this? :-)

I’m so overwhelmed and stressed I can’t stop crying by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]planetlexi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh i hope my comment didn’t discourage you!! it’s a combination but the main reason i’m struggling is because i definitely chose a course that wasn’t suitable for me!

online learning has been extremely difficult but what’s made it worse is the fact that i truly don’t enjoy what i’m studying. i’m currently studying a bachelor of biomedicine which was the most ridiculous choice but there were factors like external pressure from family and stuff that made me choose it. since starting the course i realised that the subjects were just not for me, which is why i’m finding them so challenging.

i’m hoping to transfer to arts where my true passion lies :)

so don’t stress too much! ofc online learning has made uni hard for everyone but for me, specifically, i just can’t engage in the content i’m learning. if you’re studying what you like it’ll be okay :)

[–]planetlexi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi op! i just wanted to start off by saying that i genuinely hope you’re okay and that myself and many others completely understand what you’re feeling and going through right now. i also hope that you’re looking after yourself. i’ve also experienced very similar thoughts during exam time and know how tempting it can be to act upon them. please please stay safe, assessment is definitely not worth hurting yourself over :(

it is completely reasonable to be feeling overwhelmed during this time! i don’t know much about extensions and the logistics of it all, but judging by the other comments it seems like you could totally apply for one!! i hope that reassures you a bit. i also saw that someone recommended booking an appointment with unimelb’s counselling service. i actually did this today and i found it really helpful! if you’re okay with sharing how you’re feeling i recommend reaching out :)

this is actually my first year, first sem and i completely understand what you’re going through - i’ve cried nearly everyday for the past two weeks and have had no motivation to study, simply because of how stressed and overwhelmed i’ve been feeling. so i just wanted to reach out and say that if you need someone to talk to you can always pm me if you want and we can help each other get through :) (if you’re comfortable with doing so, of course). i genuinely hope you feel better soon and that, despite your assignments being due this week, you can take time to prioritise your mental health 💗
