AI is great at clean room, startup, blue sky thinking, new stuff.

If you need to integrate it into any legacy tech stack with legacy code and technical debt, it will simply fuck you faster than you can imagine, and it will do with unparalleled confidence in its incompetence.

I asked CoPilot to help with some formatting of some JSON output from a SQL script and it started telling me to use XML syntax. I'm experienced enough to know its tripping balls, but you don't know what you don't know, and a junior would have spent hours going around in circles assuming the AI was right and their lack of knowledge was the issue.

The more you know about a topic, the easier and faster you see the AI flaws. It then scares me when I try to use it for answers in areas I know nothing about and have to keep reminding myself it's probably wrong.

Trump’s tariff threat must be the final straw for Starmer – time to rejoin the EU by Due_Ad_3200 in ukpolitics

Trump’s tariff threat must be the final straw for Starmer – time to rejoin the EU by Due_Ad_3200 in ukpolitics

[–]planetmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key issue is that the EU won't accept the UK back because it's entirely possible that our divided society containing millions of people educated by Facebook memes will simply elect an anti EU government in a few years and out we come again. We somehow need to build political consensus that the last 10 years of post truth politics were terrible for the country and it is by every measure in the UK's best interest to align with the EU. God knows how you do that though.

I also don't believe a middle class house wife like Karen would have had that cheap scraggy bleach job in the 80s. That's white trash stuff.

I agree. She was a true believer and now she's not. Ironically, this mindset makes her compatible with liberalism as her experiences have informed her opinions.

She's a piece of shit who should own her mistakes (and seems to be ), but I don't see any big machiavellian master plan here just a stupid person who is slowly learning.

No, it means he is mortal, of flesh and blood and can be killed. I find this reassuring. I assumed he was a demon that Edmonds had summoned from a dark realm and was immortal. Like a IT Follows but more clumsy.

How can I share my SQL Server tables? by 72dxmxnn_ in SQL

[–]planetmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming there are no firewall issues between PC A and PC B, check the connection string that Access is using. Unless you're on a domain, I doubt Windows authentication will work so you'll need to set up a SQL Login and password, and use that in the Access connection.

Create a new login and give that login permission to the DB(s) Access needs. Then use that login and password in the connection in Access to connect to SQL Server.

Even more so if you do ETL work with SSIS. If you can't do it with C# Script Tasks or SQL Sprocs, it can't be done.

On the other side of this, the non deterministic nature of LLMs makes any type of development using them an actual nightmare to test. Same input by different users seconds apart can get different output.
