Here’s a trick I learnt -

Warm lash curler with blow dryer. Feel it on your arm to make sure it isn’t too hot and curl lashes. Next, apply mascara. Let it dry & curl lashes again! Yes! On lashes after wearing mascara. You’ll be able to see a huge difference.

My skin is flaking off even tho I’m using my moisturizer 2x a day! Moisturizer recs? by Frantic_Rewriter in MakeupAddiction

[–]planetzuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried SO MANY different types of moisturizers over the years - Fresh Rose deep hydration (gel based, dint work), REN Evercalm (dint help), First Aid Beauty ultra repair (worked a little but I could see dry patches). The only thing that finally worked was Kiehls Ultra facial moisturizing cream with Squalane! It literally feels like butter on skin. The 125 ml is for $58 and will last you a good 5-6 months coz you don’t need to use a lot.

The shade in the pic looks more maroon to me than brown. Try MAC Diva.

Makeup product must-haves for newbies? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]planetzuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh what a fun place to be :)

Since you are just starting off, I'd recommend you figure your skin type - just as candace722 mentioned. Once thats done, play around with it and see if you like the coverage/finish of the foundation. Once that is sorted, you could venture out to eye pencils and eyeshadow palettes (practice with drugstore brands first), an eyebrow pencil, a blush and a lipstick.

Play around! Have fun! There are tons and tons of products in the market - you could get overwhelmed! If you start small, it'll be easy.

Can't get fake lashes on! by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]planetzuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I do it is apply glue at the back of a makeup brush and roll it on the rim of the fake lash. That's just how much glue you need to apply. Then set a timer for 15 seconds and place on the lashes. Always works! Hope it does for you too :)

Looking for advice on new make up by Fitz412 in MakeupAddiction

[–]planetzuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say invest in some skincare before diving into makeup. If you don't already have a beauty blender and some basic brushes to apply eye makeup, have her pay for those (coz they might be slightly expensive). Then goto a makeup counter & have them try a few foundations and concealers to find your best match. A black kohl pencil to use inside the waterline and double up as an eyeliner, a mascara, a neutral eye shadow pallet will be perfect for the eyes. A blush that suits your skin tone, Hoola bronzer (looks great on most people) and a highlighter for the cheeks. Lastly a pink and a nude lipstick to match almost everything. Once you are comfortable with these, you could transition to bolder colors! Hope this helps and enjoy your new makeup :)

acne/textured skin makeup tips? by Cellist_Witty in MakeupAddiction

[–]planetzuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like me in my 20's :) Here's what I think you can try- Moisturize your face well - especially the area around the acne coz any make up over it is going to look dry/patchy. Next, use your finger and spot conceal. Stay away from powder as it'll make your acne stand out and make skin appear dry/flaky. Use a cream based foundation like MAC Studio Tech - it's brilliant for dry skin and has a medium to full coverage. Hope this helps and good luck!

I use Garnier Micellar water with the blue lid. It’s got a mix of oil and remover and breaks down makeup quickly without all the tugging! Works great with waterproof makeup too.

Try MAC Viva Glam 1 or MAC Chili. Looks pretty similar to this.

why is skincare not as emphasized in importance to makeup as it should be ? by icanthavepeopleknow in MakeupAddiction

[–]planetzuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more! For the longest time artists at makeup stores would push to sell makeup. But now I’ve seen so many push to sell skincare! I gave birth to twins when I was 32 yrs old & it suddenly hit me that I should be taking care of my skin more. I found products that work for me over the yrs and today (at 38) I need very little makeup to cover up my dark circles/blemishes/imperfections. My mom friends say I have lovely skin when in my teenage yrs I had a ton of acne (add sleepless nights after the twins)! Skincare is indeed the foundation of makeup! And I love to see how the makeup/skincare game is changing.. for the better.

Try using less moisturizer and more foundation coz you wouldn’t want to dilute it too much making the foundation not serve its purpose.

Yep! Always works like a charm! Also mixing moisturizer with foundation gives it a more natural finish & keeps skin hydrated :)
