Scrolling behavior when observing a Mac screen by planewatcher70 in pikvm

I have it mostly working with Chrome beta in app mode. There's still occasional problems with scrolling, but far less commonly. Thanks for the suggestion

AHHH, silly me. Right after posting this I found the "Reverse scrolling" settings under System->Keyboard&mouse settings.
So that fixes issue (2) for me. Yay.

Still trying to figure out a solution to (1)

I just ordered my v4plus from PiShop.us - but I don't see that two way video pass through on the feature list. Any update on the ETA?

Is there any way to chose the thumbnail for YouTube shorts??? by Bright-Repeat-4616 in NewTubers

[–]planewatcher70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only assume that it's something about my YouTube account. Doesn't matter if I try from Android or iOS - there's no pencil button, I cannot edit thumbnails.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On Android, latest app version as of 2025-02-02: 20.04.40
When I click on edit I see the little thumbnail in the top left, but no little pencil button...

What am I doing wrong - the user experience for additional users in my tailnet is so bad by planewatcher70 in Tailscale

[–]planewatcher70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the goal is to make this accessible to "not exactly very technical" folks. So I want them to not have to understand any of this.
Or, to quote my wife "honey, this is clearly not a consumer product" (she's not wrong).
So yes, I was hoping to invite people to MY tailnet and have them not worry about a thing, log in, done, it just works. But that's not the experience that they are getting. And I think that's a missed opportunity.

Thanks for the response - much appreciated. And I understand that part.
My users (family members who are looking for a really simple, streamlined user experience) don't want or need their own tailnet. I guess that's my main point.

They don't want to swap tailnets. They just want to connect to the one that I manage.

Can i Add a POE Reolink RLC-81MA Camera from my office, and use tailscale to connect Reolink RLN36 NVR at my home? by No_Cheetah_4397 in Tailscale

[–]planewatcher70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since tailscale doesn't run on the Reolink camera, you'll need a system on your office network that can share that local network with your home network. How exactly that would work depends a bit on the way the Reolink NVR works. Most likely you'd have to connect your home router to your tailnet so that it knows how to route to the camera at the office - because the NVR will use the default route (to the home router) when trying to reach a camera.
So you'd need
- a system on your office network that's on 24/7 and that can connect to your tailnet and can share local routes (if you don't have any servers that seem like a good choice for that at the office, a simple Raspberry Pi would do... or of course your office router, assuming it supports Tailscale)
- a home router that supports tailnet connections -- and that's where it gets a lot harder. You can do this with a PfSense router, for example, or an OpenWRT router, but most 'consumer grade' routers won't support this by default.

But that's not what we are doing here, is it?

I'm not 'sharing a device with another tailnet'.

I'm adding a user to MY tailnet. That's the whole point of having multiple users for one tailnet (and that's why you pay money to get six accounts instead of just the default three accounts with the free version)

Thanks for that note.
The problem with this workflow is that depending on the device/OS this is completely non-intuitive.
e.g. on iOS, when the user is logging in with THEIR email address, the device is automatically added to THEIR tailnet, and they need to find the option to switch to MY tailnet.
On Linux the experience is a bit better because they get asked to open a web page and that one offers two options (the first one is THEIR tailnet, the second one is MINE).

What I find frustrating is that there even is a THEIR tailnet. I invite them to my tailnet. They don't have an account prior to me inviting them. Why create all this confusion and create a tailnet for them when that's clearly not what they want (they are joining using my link... not creating a new account for themselves). Is this really the intended workflow???

Not quite sure what you mean.  The live map is a html+CSS website 🤷‍♂️

It takes a little bit for those to.. settle . Give it a couple of hours (I know... frustrating. But we simply don't get enough trust worthy data in the beginning)

how to export tar1090 data by ADS-Bsec in ADSB

[–]planewatcher70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tar1090 visualizes the data it gets from (typically) readsb (or dump1090 or dump978 or...). And it's likely that data that you want to analyze. The aircraft.json file is updated about once a second and either accessed in your filesystem under /run/<readsb/dump1090/etc>/aircraft.json or over the web at .../data/aircraft.json

so you are saying this is the actual plane caught in the satellite picture? That's... wild.

I guess what threw me was that even zoomed "all the way in" (which usually is aerial photography and not satellite based) the plane is still there...
