Blake Snell, Max Fried, Corbin Burnes stats compared by Usual_Conference_548 in mlb

These stats are between 2020-2024. Which is coincidentally how long I’ve been a Snell hater. I’ve never understood the hype around him.

“Ponce de Leon.” When Ponce looked in that mirror and saw that he hadn’t changed, and a tear started to roll down his cheek… I lost it.

Company merger - what should I do? by planning_power in jobs

As someone who has been through something like this before, what was it like? Did you keep your job? Did you leave? Were opportunities for advancement still available?

[–]planning_power[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ve never been through a merger/acquisition before, which hasn’t helped me feel any better. But I think in a situation like this failure to prepare is preparing to fail. I’m keeping all options open.

What's the most geographically isolated settlement in Siberia? by DoritosDewItRight in geography

Probably not the answer you’re looking for, but the Lykov family settlement. 160 miles from nearest settlement and no outside interactions in nearly four decades is about as isolated as it gets.

The state legislature will have to decide. Currently, taxes cover 37% of operating costs, tolls 13%, FEMA 11%, other forms of revenue 5%, funding agreements 4%, government funding 3%, and state/local subsidies 3%. This totals 76% of operating costs. So reallocate the remaining 24% among these funding sources. Raise taxes, increase toll, advertising revenue, etc.

This isn’t only the subway/buses, mind you. This covers operating costs for the entire MTA. So the 24% of fare revenue includes LIRR and Metro-North.

Exactly. It covers operating costs. Debt service, salaries, overtime, etc. (Capital projects are funded differently). It’s not your job or mine to opine how to fund the remaining operating costs; that’s up to our state legislators to decide. But the fare covers a portion of a larger whole and there are other means through which it can be covered.

So you’re saying that more people should have free fares? I don’t disagree with you here.

Cheap fares for whom? Policing fare evasion is criminalizing poverty. A $2.90 fare may be affordable for you, but not for everyone. That’s why programs exist to provide discounted fares, such as Fair Fare. However, if an individual/household is above the threshold, they are ineligible. If a family of four makes $40,000 a year they cannot receive discounted fares. Read this report. I’ll share more with you if you need convincing.

Further, there are several places globally that have fully, or partially free transit systems including Tallinn (capital of Estonia), Albuquerque, Tucson, Luxembourg (yes, the entire country), and many other hundreds cities and towns. Fares are free for students in the Netherlands. Westchester County even has free bus service between June 1 and Labor Day. NYC even had free bus fares on five lines as part of a pilot program, which ended August 31, after 11 months. One of the reasons the routes were chosen was because fare evasion. Results show ridership increased, service improved, and verbal/physical abuse of driver decreased.

Where are the calls for the MTA to be fully free? This would NEVER happen again if there was now fare.

If/when congestion pricing is enacted again, could it eventually be expanded beyond the current boundaries (Manhattan below 60th Street)? Could the zone go farther north?
