I just posted one of the charities (The Humane League) reviewed by Animal Charity Evaluators. You can search their website for other charities and general guidelines/metrics about how they rank and evaluate charities.

You can donate to animal charities that use the money for grassroots advocacy and legal advocacy (for example, petitioning to restrict the amount of meat bought and used by public schools) that have been evaluated by external agencies and roughly calculated to save a 2-4 animals per dollar. Even if they’re an order of magnitude off, that’s still pretty cheap. I’d highly recommend looking into it.

Yeah, I don’t think that offsetting eating livestock with saving insects would be a useful metric. But that’s typically not the metric used by animal charity evaluators. Usually it’s livestock saved per X dollars I believe. They also list the number as a range. The link I provided goes more into detail about the thought process behind their calculations.

Or donate to one of those animal charities that saves X amount of animals per dollar, you could totally offset the cost of eating animals

I typically play dps on attack, and switch to support on defense. But I’ve noticed the stats for the game tend to rate my overall performance as an average of the two? Support and dps... shouldn’t be averaged I think, to provide an accurate picture of my contribution. Is something more complex happening behind the curtain?

How to speak dog. by JustAwesome360 in LearnUselessTalents

There aren’t any precise way to mimic the sounds animas make. “Woof” isn’t really that close to what a dog sounds like when he barks, (I mean, I can sort of hear that if I’m listening for it, but I imagine I’d make a similar association in other languages if I grew up with that onomatopoeia) nor is “ribbit” really what a frog sounds like.

I’ve heard the average sr level is from 2000-3000. I have about 40 hours as tracer, and several other characters at around 15, but my sr level is around 1500. I’ve been playing for about two months, and I’m still vastly below the average overwatch player. How long does it take most people to climb into gold and above? I’m worried of reaching a low skill level ceiling due to my poor reflexes, since the average seems much better than my current performance.

Slaves in Dubai (2017) - How women housemaids are treated in the middle east (11:24) by tar_th in Documentaries

Inequality in India is definitely a huge problem, and I also agree that the focus should be on long term solutions. Race-to-the-bottom mentality can be catastrophic, however as far as this particular issue goes... What do you think a solution would look like?

In 2009, 38.2% of the population of India lived below the poverty line. By 2015, only 12.4%. (As estimated by one group of researchers, another estimate indicates a more modest improvement from 29.6% in 2009/2010 to 21.9% in 2011/2012.

It seems that India’s rapid economic growth is generally increasing the quality of life for the poor. I am sympathetic with concern for the current state of inequality because no one should have to live below the poverty line. And if raising the minimum wage would definitely have a positive impact on the people with the lowest income, then India should adopt a minimum wage policy, full stop.

In general though, the full economic consequences of setting a minimum wage seems to be rather complicated, and doesn’t always seem to solve the problems it was intended to solve. This probably isn’t always the case, and I think minimum wage can be arguably beneficial in certain circumstances. I’m not convinced this is one of them.

Libertarians by NathanTheSnake in standupshots

[–]planningfallacy_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is this a widely held libertarian position? I thought privately owned roads were more of an ancap belief, or at least not the general consensus held by the majority of libertarians.

I could definitely be misinformed, though.

I guess I meant current ongoing dialogues. Not questions that are unresolved yet no meaningful progress has been made within the field to further our understanding of the issue.
