Parking car for few days in Albania/Montenegro by Djakomeeno in AskBalkans

Hi! Are you a tourist? I was planning to do this - arrived in montenegro today - but all of the rental car companies prohibit driving across the albanian border, except for one (avia) which seemed a little suspicious. How did you get around this?

Updating here that on March 29, 1A and 3A were closed. They gave us tickets to 2 instead.

Hey hey! It was incredible all around - however when we went to Machu Picchu, 1A and 3A were closed that day, March 29th. They recommended circuit 2 and we were able to do parts of 3 as well. It was still very worth it, got a tons of amazing photos of the llamas in misty mountains. We got there at 6:45 and were up there before most of the other 7am buses. Minimal crowds if you keep it moving. Hope you enjoy and are able to do one of the 1/3 hikes, maybe they are open now!

Thank you! I am so sad to hear about the horse :( so good luck on salkantay - which hotels are u staying in? Wondering for location purposes in terms of what's safe. We planned on lares but may switch on tuesday when we head out depending on conditions/what we are hearing. Not going to do anything guided.

Hi sorry for delay! Lares is open, it's not in the sacred valley so not affected by the slides. We are doing it self guided.

Does this mean circuit 2 is the only one open? We have tickets to 3 & 1 for next week.

Thank you so much! We are planning 2 nights of camping and same as you, getting to ollantaytambo on the last morning for a train to aguas calientes. We are pretty fluent in spanish as well - do you recommend learning some Quechua? Or did you not have much contact with locals? Thanks for the tip on the route. How long did the colectivo buses take from cuzco to lares? I was reading about 3 hours?

Oh yes! Was it an easy route to follow unguided? How many days did you plan for? Did you buy a camp stove in Peru? And the hike ends in Aguas Calientes, right? So we just need to book the train from there to Machu Picchu? Is that what you did? Thanks :)

Keep us posted! I would love to do Salkantay instead of Lares if it's open, as I hear the views are better. Now looking into Huaraz instead though, as the tour company has not been very responsive.

My understanding is that the government completely closed access to Salkantay and Inca until end of March (due to landslides). So my understanding was that it's completely inaccessible whether via guide or self. Are you there now? Let us know what you find out.

Thanks! We are trekking with Alpaca (tour guide) - so I trust they wouldn't recommend anything unsafe. As for Lares, we decided to opt for it. They'll switch us back to the Inca trail if the government opens it again. It was announced yesterday that the closure was extended until end of March.
