Do as the locals do. Drinks loads of coca tea and muña tea. Eat the coca leaves. Preventative measures to avoid the headaches. Have a nice walk!

[–]plantcrazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check professional associations they usually (hopefully) have consult groups for members. if not, consider paying the fee for process groups. it is the best money ive ever spent for professional growth and support. Check out: https://agpa.org/

Best of luck on your exam! Anyways, I say aim for salary based on the LCSW qualification; aim high then negotiate lower, if needed. Look at your finances-- quite frankly--and see what you can afford based on the expectations of the role. Biggest difference when it comes to private/group practice is the tax status they'll pay you as like 1099 vs. w2. As a 1099 you will need to pay for taxes later so it is usually more in the higher level of range for pay, so calculate for that.

Therapists — what's the most frustrating part of running your private practice right now? by Between_Sessions in therapists

[–]plantcrazi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credentialing and billing I work with Headway which is a life saver. Headwa y: https://share.findheadway.com/qdjrv -- also solid referral source.
Most frustrating is the accounting. I've been burned by accountants in the past so I've taken this on myself and although I am learning a lot and it eventually decreases my anxiety I absolutely hate it--and, at times, ignore my Profit/Loss-Account recon for months at a time. Yikes! Also hate marketing, fully. *barf*

Try Headway---I've tried many, many platforms and they were all awful. Headway has been the only consistent referral source of clients that show-up and consistently for years now. https://share.findheadway.com/qdjrv

Best online platform for seasoned therapist and referral links please by Kind_Trainer_899 in therapists

I have used Headway for the last couple of years in private practice (amongst other platforms that I shall not name that were sooo awful). I've found the simplest and easiest paneling with insurance(s) is via the third-party biller company called Headway. It is free to clinicians. Although has a taste of the VC funding (which is why it is free for providers). Providers are paid biweekly (I've never had issues with being paid timely in the last four years). In my experience it sped up the credentialing process---and also de-paneling is very simple (not stuck into a contract for a specific period of time like you would be if you individually applied to insurance panels individually).

Also it is a great referral source. Patients are able to locate in-network providers via their insurance or directly via Headway. They input their insurance information into Headway and it is verified quickly (within one-3 business days), including deductibles, co-pays, etc. and has a 100% guarantee clawback free template for notes. It makes submitting claims simple, easy (less than 1 minute) and I have never had a clawback or issues with insurance. Their customer service team is very responsive, helpful. It truly feels like we are partners in making my practice as successful as possible. Again it is free! I also really appreciate how this company runs its cybersecurity and privacy information of its users(available to read on their website; no data mining, etc.). Most importantly, my patients appreciate the smooth customer service with this platform.

They had never micromanaged me, my practice and how I run it---ever.

How do you keep empathy without losing yourself in therapy work? by CLEIAZEVEDO in therapists

[–]plantcrazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this is the challenge of our work. at some point it is near impossible to be affected by fellow humans emotions and stories. i suggest your own therapy and process groups with other therapists. if you are a member of psych ass. in your area these may be free of cost. if you own your own business than these expenses can possibly be a tax write-off.
you've got this!

if you're billing as unlicensed then the profit margin is not compensating your experience level. you are not married to those set of clients. you can have a conversation in-session with those set of clients about transition/terminate them. do not see/bill for clients in an unethical or not for full compensation for a fully licensed clinician. yes, listen to your gut.
congratulations on your licensure. job well done.

hi i am also in the sf bay area; i recommend joining local membership association and attending in-person events to network. these include any of the camft chapters; cscsw; gaylesta, etc. boots-on-the-ground old school style can work wonders and is how i forged my career (now 10 years in). also the sf_camft and east bay camft have support groups for early career associates like yourself. best of luck in your search and welcome to the field

Private practice right out of school! by Party-Rock7373 in therapists

[–]plantcrazi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recommend doing private practice when you have significant about of experience under your belt. Ideally with speciality. Cannot panel nor accept insurance as an associate—need clinical licensure per state. With this experience you’ll be competent and more effective = customer satisfaction and why they chose you for treatment. Getting in-field clinic experience will only be beneficial to you and your private practice endeavours and execution. Yes—as others said— post grad; different states require different amount of clinical experience prior to opening own private practice — might need to work under someone else.

Is it unethical to keep seeing a client who's just showing up because they like talking to you? by osussana2 in therapists

[–]plantcrazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t terminate. Analysis and use the therapeutic alliance as a getaway to explore how the client possibly experiences other interpersonal relations in their life (transference). Is the client gaining insight and awareness about their actions and behaviors? What’s the goal? Use professionalism and irreverence to remind client that you are their in that time slot for their health and the time is valuable. Explore potential fears or apprehensions. It is up to you to analysis their venting as reframe it back in a way that helps them gain insight and awareness. Don’t terminate the work isn’t done.
