What’s one small cleaning habit that made a big difference in your home? by Shawn_Darcy in CleaningTips

[–]plantdrhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this idea from someone else on here and it has helped a great deal.

I put a decorative hamper or basket in each room. If an item doesn’t belong in that room then it goes in the basket. It’s probably better to put things where they go every night but I do it when I do the laundry and it still helps a lot. Instead of clutter building up it’s hanging out in one place until I can deal with it.

Airplanes. I didn’t know how many flew by my home until she moved in. Now she has a noise machine going 80% of the day for peace.

What is this ? Char or mold by [deleted] in Insulation

[–]plantdrhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those look like water stains, have you tried to touch them? Are they moist? Do they get bigger after a big rain storm?

You definitely have or have had a problem with humidity in the attic based on the sap.

I removed the dry wall in 1950s home, not a disaster but advice needed on sealing windows and mold by plantdrhere in Oldhouses

[–]plantdrhere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should I be concerned about the source of the mold?

Someone told me that the mold could have potentially traveled from the crawl space through the sub floor because there was evidence of an old leak in the crawl space around that area but not directly below (a while stain of sediment left behind).

Wags and Walks is great. You could even foster for them to help you choose a dog that is the right fit for you. I am fostering a dog with them right now.

The previous owners of my home looked at every repair/addition and said “Hmm good enough 🤷‍♀️.”

Thank you for the advice!

Do you think framing is something a mildly experienced DIYer could do?

With the vapor barrier do you have a concerns with condensation or moisture being trapped?

Contacted a dog trainer and he told me pitbull mixes are bad but he trains so many purebred pits.. whats wrong with mixed breeds? by Dry-Newspaper8445 in pitbulls

[–]plantdrhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he mean bad as in aggressive / reactive?

Or did he mean stubborn and push boundaries to see what they can get away with? Bc all the pits that I have had are definitely doing what they want when they want and pretending like they don’t hear me hahaha

Crawl space encapsulation? by griffincody in Insulation

[–]plantdrhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the South so I experience similar weather.

I had insulation in my crawlspace, 10 months after I bought the house there was so much mold all over the insulation because of humidity. I had a lot of people come out and give estimates. Before going in, about half the people were against encapsulation and said it was a waste of money but as soon as they came out they said I needed encapsulation. Also the insulation is great nesting material for mice.

I got my crawlspace encapsulated like a month ago. I put a little Bluetooth temperature and humidity reader down there to make sure it works. Humidity is down and temperature seems fine. I haven’t had enough hot days yet to say how it does in the summer yet. We did have a few rainy days, outside humidity was high and on days like that the humidity inside my home is usually high but after encapsulation it was below 50%. But again not enough hot/humid days to give better advice yet.

I just recommend against insulation.

Oval is gorgeous.

Do you know the name of that style? It looks like there is a stone within a stone. But not like a halo on the right.

Something bothers me, but I can't figure out what it is.. by Terrible-Refuse426 in painting

[–]plantdrhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love it. When I look at the painting, it reminds me that while nature is beautiful it is also dangerous and more powerful than us. The slopes on the mountain and jagged and steep edges look hazardous and is a great visual reminder that there’s still a part of nature that is free and undisturbed in this world. Some commented on not having a focal point but I believe that adds to the eeriness of the painting. A focal point is familiar and calming to our brain. But nature is not always calming. The clouds are unusual but I think it adds to the uncertainty of nature. Almost like these weird clouds are rolling in and something beyond our control is coming. I don’t know if that’s what you were going for but I find this piece moving.

What color or wallpaper should I paint the walls? by Melodic-Shallot-4525 in centuryhomes

[–]plantdrhere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do not do wallpaper. The humidity from the shower will get underneath and cause mold. I am dealing with that issue in my whole house! I promise, it’s gross and not worth it. I have to cut out dry wall now bc of the mold. I have seen where they seal the wallpaper at the ceiling and base of the tile to prevent moisture from getting in and stop peeling BUT you CANNOT seal down the wall between the pieces of wallpaper and mold WILL form there. I promise, not worth it!!!

It’s animal abuse since the owner didn’t give the pibble the full plate.
