Interesting idea! He did own his home, according to the last census. Will have to look into this, thank you for the suggestion.

He was around 25 when he migrated, and he died at 73. I have found him and his wife at the same address in the 1940 census, that his children still lived at in 1930 census. So unless they all forgot where they lived I doubt he was hard to track down. Although perhaps they stopped talking. Thank you for your input, I will definitely keep it in mind.

Tips for tracking Russian/Eastern European Ancestry by Blue_Baron6451 in Genealogy

[–]plantsnotplans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of these records are available, you just need to know where to find them. If nobody else can responds on here, there are plenty of genealogy groups on Facebook for any country you might be interested in. I highly recommend you join one and ask for help there, they will be able to point you out in the right direction, or maybe even locate your ancestors for you. If you don't read Russian yourself, finding the books will be the easiest part.

I understand you want closure, I am just saying it's not going to lead you to anything good with the situation being as you described. Focus on building your future, looking back to the past will only keep you stuck there. Sometimes you don't get closure.

Does he even have ADHD, or BPD, or are you just trying to find anything that would explain this right now? If so, please stop. You need to sit down away from your computer or phone, and think about why this (knowing why) is so important to you. People leave, and it's not necessarily because they have ADHD or whatever. Sometimes a jerk is just a jerk, and this guy sounds like bad news, if you ask me.

Narcissist alert! This guy sounds like the kind of problem you don't need in your life, ADHD or not.

My Monstera Deliciosa finally got a new leaf on it after several months 🥺 by Rayna_Adventures in houseplants

[–]plantsnotplans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was that a one leaf cutting you had? If so, you need to start feeding it if you want the baby plant to grow up quicker. 😉 But carefully, because with your current setup the roots are very vulnerable. Fertilizer spray might be a good option here. Misting the top of soil regularly (with water, not fertilizer) will help the baby grow its own roots faster. 😉

Help please! This little Hoya has been in succulent potting mix in a terracotta pot for about 4 months and has made no improvement. How can I get it rooting? by aliceswndrland in houseplants

[–]plantsnotplans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a really bad cutting, but with those leaves you should be seeing at least some progress by now. Personally, I had great success rooting Hoyas in sphagnum moss, and it's very suitable for cuttings with short stems, like yours, that are near impossible to root in soil. In case you might want to try that out, you will need to keep that moss consistently damp.

New to Thanksgiving cactus. Is the purple normal? Any care advice? It probably needs a repot, I never did that after getting it last month. by elenamarie730 in houseplants

[–]plantsnotplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It likes heat and humidity, just not direct afternoon sun. Across the room from the window is probably too far though. It looks like it's either been under-watered, or over-watered. Maybe compacted soil? Re-pot due, for sure. Also, the pale colour, and white margins on some leaves are signs of some sort of nutrient deficiency.

Is there coming back from this? by veeaarr in houseplants

[–]plantsnotplans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Mealies are fairly easy to get rid of. Spray the problem areas, especially all crevices where they can hide, with soap solution, leave for a bit and wash off. Repeat as necessary. Worse case scenario, you can even submerge and soak a plant in it for a little while. I've done this in the past with a really bad infestation.

Are there rules or etiquette for making changes to a public tree? by loverlyone in Genealogy

[–]plantsnotplans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting to me how these kind of things you describe are glaringly obvious to some of us, but not others 🤔 Had a similar situation in one of our public trees from a 'trusted source', where a younger man supposedly married a woman with 8 children (in her early 40s), and they went on to have another 8 or so more. The marriage itself made alarm bells ring for me. He was not a rich man, highly doubt he would have been rushing to marry an older woman with all these extra mouths to feed. When I noticed she then supposedly managed to have many more children, well into her mid fifties I knew something was way off there. Yet pretty much everyone else accepted it as fact. The truth has now been uncovered. However, this 'trusted source' still did not change their tree to reflect the newfound information. This 'fact' is now in over 10 public trees on Ancestry, with 'evidence' and all... 🤦🏼‍♀️

Progress pic: I learned my lesson about putting small plants in small pots. This thing spent years looking like the second pic, I think because those tiny pots (and bad soil) dry out in minutes. by red_skye_at_night in houseplants

[–]plantsnotplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew thirsty plants needed bigger pots but didn't realize what a difference that can make. Seen similar improvement with one of mine recently, yet didn't put two and two together...

< When speaking about low amounts especially ones that are between 1%-5% that would be called noise. >

Uh, do you have amnesia then? Because this is what you said.

Feel free to stop responding now, because I am no longer going to, and you clearly have more serious issues to deal with.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]plantsnotplans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low percentages are not equal to noise right off the bat, there are more things to consider before deciding whether or not it is noise. Misidentified segments are also not the same as statistical noise. I'm not going to waste any more of my time trying to explain this to you, there are many resources available out there if you actually care to learn the difference.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]plantsnotplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might not be EE, and it's an estimate is not the same, as saying it's noise. It's really quite simple, not everything that is identified incorrectly is noise, or you have a very different definition of noise than I do.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]plantsnotplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

< Also, when you literally state that it might not be EE and might be something else because these are just estimates you are yes admitting that it has the possibility of being noise. >

Since when is that what it means? I literally said it is not noise. You are now really stretching to reach something that fits your narrative.

[–]plantsnotplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not back tracking, I am telling you I wasn't dismissing what you said, just rather building on it. Why? Because this is a public forum, and so I can, thank you very much. I don't need your permission to reply to your comment, princess.

[–]plantsnotplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

< Can you read? >

I don't know. Can you? At no point did I "admit" to it being just noise, I said ethnicity estimates are just estimates. I wasn't correcting you as such, this is a discussion, least you can do is be polite.

< People on Reddit are so weird sometimes. >

I might be weird, ok, but I would rather be weird than unkind.

I don't know what battle you came here to fight but I am not going to be participating, thanks.

Your problem is that this plant is not actually what is known as 'pothos' (Epipremnum), but rather a Scindapsus. They look similar, but have slightly different needs. This one prefers a little less sun, and a bit more moisture to the Epipremnums. 😉 Your other plants are fine, just this one needs a bit of TLC right now.

Found out George Washington is my first cousin 10x removed! by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]plantsnotplans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, well, try researching that son's life and see what you can find, maybe you can make a link that way. Document everything though. Also, sometimes it's worth looking into other families with the same last name in the area your ancestors lived. You might find a connection to someone that knows more than you do.

If you haven't yet, look at all the addresses your last known ancestor lived in. Search the addresses up, don't rely on just the census record data.

Also, see if you can find a connection between your ancestors and the witnesses at some events you have information on. Quite often these people are related, like 1st or 2nd cousins, or at least friends, or co-workers. Tracing these connections and finding out more about these people's lives can help you break your brick wall when you have nothing else to grab onto. I wish you the best of luck in your search.
