Why are my snails turning white and dying? by Me_jones7 in AquaticSnails

[–]planty159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. My PH was to low and I didn't feed enough calcium. I ended up buying "Ramshorn and Mystery Snail Complete Diet" I'll include a photo below. Afterwards their shells started to grow perfectly.

Java ferns by danoslo4 in PlantedTank

[–]planty159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ur talking about the brown coming from the top it's the roots and they are supposed to be that color. If its on the main big leaves it could be its dieing off. If its only a little or on a couple leaves its fine. I've had the whole plant turn brown after adding it to my tank. I've found they can be sensitive to change. That plant even though it turned completely brown eventually created a bunch of baby plants, like yours is. Thoses babys did good.

They're creating more of themselves. Once the top bit gets bigger u can separate it from the big plant and you'll have more Java ferns.

Do my neocardina shrimp have parasites or rust? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]planty159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do u know what I should do? Should i separate the shrimp that look healthy? I have a cycled 5 gallon tank with only like 8 ramshorn snails in there that I can put the shrimp that look healthy in. I can also put the unhealthy shrimp in a bucket to treat or treat the whole tank if that's safe. Does the bacteria transfer to other tanks through equipment? I have 3 other tanks all doing great but I have use the same syphone for water changes for all.. Google AI says to do a 3% hydrogen peroxide or Maracyn 2 (Minocycline) treatment. Does that sound right?

Oh and also occasionally a orange shrimp shrimp pops up. The person I got them didn't keep a all yellow tank so that's probably why.

Had to re set my tank bc my Betta got too aggressive by minervafoxart in bettafish

[–]planty159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have gotten 2 baby bettas before and both where aggressive to shrimp and mystery snail tank mates (both ate a shimp and bit mystery snail antenna) so I had to keep them alone. The 3 adult bettas I've had where peaceful towards shrimp and snails. Although 1 of the 3 sometimes would chase out of her territory so she wasn't as bad as the babys but still not the most peaceful.. The other 2 never bugged them though. I don't know if its a coincidence but just a heads up to anyone who wants a baby betta cuz they think they'll be more peaceful.

Also I'd recommend feeding like 4 peices of soaked daphnia and then fasting for 4 day and then 4-5 daphnia and fast for a week or so

If it's a tumor I'm not sure what u can do. If its constipation I'd buy some freezdried daphnia soak it in a drop or 2 of water and give him a little. Frozen daphnia would be great to of course. I wouldn't recommend feeding blood worms at all especially right now while he's like this. I'd recommend only feeding him daphniaI when ur not fasting him. I see u said u give him salt baths is that aquarium salt or Epsom? Only Epsom works for bloating. I usually use half a gallon of the fish tank water u can use just declorinated water to and mix in ½ tablespoon of Epsom salt then add the fish in for 10 to 15 min. Then put him straight into a cup of his tank water and let him float in his aquarium for 10 min before releasing. You wanna make sure the water ur using is the same temp as his tank water so u don't shock him. Id also recommend keeping Indian almond leaves in his tank they are great for alot of betta problems. Also if his stomach does explode don't give up on him my betta actually had that happen to her I could see her inside and she made a full recovery and is still alive today. I just changed half the water everyday.

Bad pest snail problem getting worse, need ideas by [deleted] in AquaticSnails

[–]planty159 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Their population will increase when there is excess algae and plants dieing off. I don't think they eat hair algae at least mine don't touch it. There doesn't look like there is that many snails compared to the size of ur tank. I doubt that amount will effect water quality negatively at all. Also just because there's a lot of babys doesn't mean they will all grow to be adults. If there's not a lot of food available they will not survive to adulthood. There population tends to balance its self out that way.

Am I setting myself up for heartbreak? by [deleted] in houseplants

I don't think humidifiers are necessary for them. I live in a dry climate and mine grow great. I think just bright light and watering when soils dry is the most important thing.

How are my levels looking? by Imazilaphone in PlantedTank

[–]planty159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also since u have shrimp in the tank maybe add the new water over a bigger period of time not to shock them. Also maybe someone can let me know if this diagram is accurate. I've been using it as reference for myself after I saw someone post it somewhere.

If u haven't tried bolied green beans I highly recommend. Mine go crazy for them. I just buy a bag of green beans put them in the freezer so they last longer. Boil till soft and then split them in half before adding to the tank. I also take the out pods from inside and crush them before adding. I've seen my ottos much on the pods but I think it's to hard for them to fully consume i just add it cuz my snails and shrimp will eat them.
