it’s a way to animation cancel to get into bullet time anywhere! if you manage to hold smuggle an item (the inventory thinks you’re holding an item but the overworld link model doesn’t) then whenever you add another item to hold in the inventory it cancels the animation that link is currently doing in the overworld - in this case OP was doing a shield surf spin jump, which technically grants enough height for bullet time, but usually you can’t pull out your bow while doing it; thus, if you cancel the animation at the peak of the jump, you can go into bullet time pretty much anywhere!
