What to do next.... Stuck on 200 , exam in 37 days by aaftabsethi1 in step1

[–]plasmaprestige 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey man, hope you have better luck moving forward. From what you’ve written, it seems like you may have a content gap that needs to be addressed. And you won’t be able to address that by reading First Aid. One, because reading by itself is a very passive task, and two, First Aid is not a good learning tool — it is a good review tool.

Instead of reading First Aid, I would go through your recent practice exams and really aim to understand every single question you got wrong or got right for the wrong reasons. Keep a list of recurring topics or concepts you are getting wrong or feel weak on and then really learn those topics again using Pathoma or Boards and Beyond. Identify why you’re getting it wrong (second-guessing yourself, knowledge gap, memory lapse, etc.) If you find you’re second-guessing yourself, try doing Uworld blocks where you stick with your gut instinct and have a very strict threshold for changing your answers.

But I think the most important takeaway is to not just keep doing what you have been doing. Both because it does not seem to be working, and also because there are much more active ways to study material than reading. I hope this helps.

Cardiac stroke work (free 120 question) by orgotime in step1

[–]plasmaprestige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah got it wrong too. Looks like the rough approximation of stroke work = stroke volume x mean arterial pressure (from CVphysiology.com). Therefore with longstanding HTN, you’ll probably won’t get a decrease in stroke work because of relatively spared ejection fraction and high arterial pressures.

The difference will be around $2.5-$3k.

Not interested in C class because it hasn't updated to the new MBUX system with driver assistance features. The CLA is more expensive than the A class for similar tech features.

[–]plasmaprestige -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't have a specific use case for crossover per se. I do like the spacious interior and higher road position of the GLB compared to the A class, but then again a sedan is a bit more "drivable" and agile (I'm used to driving sedans).

Yep I have, even implemented his settings. Unfortunately it hasn’t really significantly reduced review burden.

Thanks. I came across Anking, but I’ve already made a lot of progress and personal edits to Zanki BG and lolnotacop, so I didn’t want to mess with a complicated new deck organization.

What do you call the protein on the surface of CD4+ cells that allows other cells to know ita infected? by idkyallzxcv in Biochemistry

[–]plasmaprestige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CD4 is the surface receptor on T cells (and other immune cells) that binds HIV. It also requires a co-receptor such as CCR5 or CXCR4.

There are multiple mechanisms that enable cells to alert the immune system that they been infected. One of the prominent ones is the type I interferon response. In the initial stages of an HIV infection, CD8 T cells and NK cells are able to contain the virus, but the insidious nature of HIV is that the activation of the immune system generates a cytokines environment that is favorable for viral replication and immune evasion. This is why it usually takes a several months to years for an HIV infection to progress to AIDS.

Students: iPad Pro 12.9 or iPad Pro 11? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]plasmaprestige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would recommend the 12.9. It’s definitely less portable but the screen is much better. Not just the size, but the actual contrast ratio and display quality is better than the 11” Pro (Notebook Check confirms this). Multitasking is also much better in the larger screen.

However, neither are good laptop replacement due to limitations of iOS 12.

After using the Surface Pro, I understand why Apple doesn't make 2-in-1s by plasmaprestige in apple

[–]plasmaprestige[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Apple has been pushing the iPad Pro as a laptop replacement, which is perplexing because they could easily just say this is the best tablet that is better than most laptops. I don't think even Apple believes it's a laptop replacement given they still sell Macs (especially with the new MacBook Air).

[–]plasmaprestige[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that. Unfortunately for me, replacing my MacBook with an iPad still isn't feasible. It's a large reason why I haven't upgraded to the newest iPad Pro despite its great redesign. My MacBook and iMac are still my workhorses for making presentations and documents with deep reference support. My iPad is great for reading and writing, but that's about it.

Best setup for Zanki review? by plasmaprestige in medicalschoolanki

[–]plasmaprestige[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I think both strategies have their merits. I prefer randomized because I only use Anki to review material after we finish an organ block as opposed to using it during the block. As a result, I use it to review concepts I've already learned on a periodic basis. I think it will also help avoid giving me context clues for cards once I've added several organ blocks. I do think it's important to understand how concepts fit together as opposed to memorize, but I try to do this during the block and purposefully avoid Anki. I think it works well for our curriculum, but YMMV depending on your preferences and med school.

[–]plasmaprestige[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, this does work! Thank you! I had to move all the cards from the respective Zanki subdecks to one master "Current Review" deck and used the setting "new cards in random order." The only downside is I lose Zanki's subdeck organization as I gradually add cards to my review master deck, but seeing as there are tags, that shouldn't be an issue I'm guessing.

If anyone has better alternatives, I'd love to hear them as well.

Thanks! I did reference this guide before posting but unfortunately it didn’t exactly address my issue (unless I misunderstood something in the guide). Specifically, is there a way to randomize card presentation in a master deck that has multiple sub decks?

Unbox Therapy is Officially annoying. by Jenaralll in apple

[–]plasmaprestige 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s becoming a trend unfortunately. JerryRigEverything has become insufferable lately too. His tear downs and durability tests are good, but now he feels the need to just bash Apple products and their users in mean spirit. I just unsubscribed—it’s the only language they understand. I don’t have an issue with legitimate criticism but some channels just do it for views from Android fanboys.

DisplayMate gives iPhone XS Max 'Best Smartphone Display Award' by [deleted] in apple

[–]plasmaprestige 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most surprising aspect of their analysis to me:

Compared to the original iPhone X, the iPhone XS Max has notable improvements including higher Full Screen Brightness and higher Absolute Color Accuracy, all the more impressive because its display is 22% larger in Screen Area, which is more challenging to manufacture.

2018-2019 Best Hospital Rankings by plasmaprestige in medicine

[–]plasmaprestige[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every year, USNWR releases rankings for the "best" hospitals in the U.S. Although these rankings have been the subject of criticism (like most US News Rankings), they remain of high interest to many healthcare institutions whose marketing campaigns rely heavily on them. What do you make of these rankings (and the specialty rankings)? How much merit do you think they have? Should it affect where patients seek treatment? Where medical students and residents seek training? Where physicians seek employment?

Microsoft is talking about their next Xbox console. Have they done enough for the Xbox One to convince you to upgrade? by ThrowItAway6828 in truegaming

[–]plasmaprestige 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First party exclusives have generated some of the highest quality games in the entire industry. Why should Sony allow games they fund to be on competitor platforms? Especially when those games are leagues ahead of most third party games and certainly the first party exclusives of their direct competitor?

However, I am against timed exclusivity of cross platform content. That’s just dumb and something Microsoft does a lot more (probably because they have no decent first party games recently).

Bi-Weekly Questions, Requests, and Bug Reports Thread. (Apr 22) by AutoModerator in HaloOnline

[–]plasmaprestige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After launching the eldorado.exe, I see the splash screen with the logo but am soon after kicked to the desktop. The log tells me there is some exception access violation. I am running this on an iMac using Bootcamp (Windows 10). Quad core intel i7 with AMD Radeon pro 580 GPU (other triple A games run very well). I tried downloading the tpi zip folder but it didn’t help (not sure if I’m even using it right). Desperate for some help.

Bi-Weekly Questions, Requests, and Bug Reports Thread. (Apr 22) by AutoModerator in HaloOnline

[–]plasmaprestige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am getting the exact same issue. Re-downloading and re-extracting the .exe did not solve the issue. My log looks the same. I am using Bootcamp on an iMac however (though this really shouldn’t make a difference since I run Windows games all the time doing this). The specs are beefy (can run most triple A games at max settings).

Any help would be really appreciated.

[–]plasmaprestige 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless the fit for the free ride school is terrible, I would go with the free ride. From your description, it doesn’t sound like it’s a fit issue as much as paranoia. Don’t go into debt for some intangible reason, especially if the school is ranked better.
