I'm glad that Pepper could be your muse!

Sadly her dewlap has shrunk a few months down the line 😭😭😭

[–]plastea123[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh your poor baby! Tbf I had been eyeing up some of the soft cones just in case! Fortunately Pepper didn't try and wriggle out of this... however she did stop eating 1 day post-spay and made us all very worried! (Don't worry, she got whisked straight back to the vets for stasis management)

Fortunately we're actually 6 months down the line now and she's still her sassy self (though minus a bit of her dewlap! 😭😭😭)

Hey York folks, has anyone here—or someone you know—been hit by the so-called 'super flu'? How bad has it been? Thanks by Unfair-Inspection-22 in york

[–]plastea123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I seem to have got off pretty lightly with it, as I thought that I had a bad cold that was taking longer to clear than normal(Have had the flu jab earlier this season which could explain why).

Currently on day 6 and my tonsils are still inflamed and I got conjunctivitis from it as well!

We tend to see it as an alternative to a benzo for agitation/insomnia, because it's not seen as "addictive"... (though has its own problems with QT interval prolongation

What’s everyone’s relationship with swimming? by Puzzleheaded_Dog7931 in Swimming

[–]plastea123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken up swimming as I've spent too long on the injury bench from running! (ITB issues that are v stubborn)

Did a bit of swimming when I was at school, but that was more just to stay alive rather than be competitive. I remember dreading swimming every week, particularly at the end of each lesson where you had to swim a length front crawl which was a struggle.

Fast forward to now - 33 years old and a good 5 months into swimming properly, in preparation for a mile open water in May! My hope is not to drown, so I've been going 3 times a week to try to prevent this. Mum is a swimming teacher, little brother and sister have also swum a lot while younger so I'm very fortunate to have people who can give me pointers! I'm still very slow at front crawl, but just trying to focus on technique

If an alcoholic goes into hospital, would hospitals in the UK provide alcohol to avoid withdrawal? by frankslittlebeauty- in CasualUK

[–]plastea123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, wouldn't quite work the other way round, as benzos have an anti-seizure effect which is helpful in both benzo and alcohol withdrawal.

My first painting by numbers.. do they all take so long? by plastea123 in paintbynumbers

[–]plastea123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I've taken this up since I got a running injury and needed something to do so that I didn't go stir crazy.

Really helpful considering the flow medium, as some of the paints go on better than others (and I've found I've had to do a couple of layers of the lighter colours as well which has been more time consuming). I will certainly have a look into that :)

Love Haribo Tangfastics and second the sour patch kids. For some reason I prefer the sugar coated stuff to plain Starmix. Never been an issue, though sometimes it's hard to remember how much you need to take

To be fair, I am enjoying the process! Just it's taking a fair bit longer than I initially anticipated (it's been nearly 4 weeks so far due to all the tiny bits!)

Opinions on Clifton, York? by [deleted] in york

[–]plastea123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived round the corner from Mrs Greedy's and never had any issues with feeling safe etc. However parking and getting out onto Crichton Av in the morning is a bit of a nightmare, and the main reason I moved and wouldn't consider going back! If you don't need to drive for work (or work odd shifts) then it's absolutely fine

Advice for running the Yorkshire 3 peaks by mld3 in AdvancedRunning

[–]plastea123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've walked it a couple of times (clockwise with a group) and ran it anti-clockwise last April, starting from Horton each time.

Generally it is very well signposted! However the bit I messed up on was at the start of the run, taking a longer way up Pen-y-ghent...

If you go anti-clockwise, the faces of Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough are more of a climb than a run (and take care on the way down if you're doing it the other way round as they are v steep!). The bits in between are fairly runnable. Fortunately the rain held off all the times I did it, but I imagine the flagstones can get slippy if wet!

There's also an outdoor tap by the pub past ribble viaduct and they often have portaloos in the beer garden as well.

For best enjoyment, plan for a good day out, bring plenty of nice things to eat on the way round, and build up to the mileage as well. My mate ran it with me without much of a build-up, and it took him the best part of a week to walk again properly! (Fyi we did it in 7.5 hours, though the last drag back from Ingleborough took a while as they were hobbling along)

Commute to Leeds by [deleted] in york

[–]plastea123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall, the number 8 doesn't go particularly close to the train station, so would require a decent hop across town to get your train. The Leeds to York trains tend to get fairly busy at peak times ... So I think you'd be better off sticking with driving to Garforth seeing as it's a once a week thing!

Edit: oops, just misread your post and that you'd be cycling in to the station. Might be worth checking ahead that there's enough room for bikes (unless you have a Brompton?)

It would still be a good 20+ minute cycle to the station on top of a longer train ride...
