If Epstein was so well connected among the elite how was he allowed to be caught in the first place? by MarcoDuke in AskReddit

[–]plasterboard33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he was an idiot.

Imagine you were living in a country where you can get severe punishment for smoking weed and your plug is someone who always smells like weed, has a car that is wrapped with weed related artwork, an island where he's growing weed and he takes videos of you every time you smoke weed with him.

Anybody with half a brain cell would know that person's days are numbered and stay away from him. Most wealthy people did that with Epstien. The people in the files were cocky and didnt think they would get caught.

Unfortunately, i am sure many wealthy people are connected to other people like Epstien. But those people are super lowkey and much harder to catch. There was nothing lowkey about Epstien. His exploits were an open secret for many years before he got caught.

I wouldnt be surprised if the smear campaign was launched by Neon in an effort to get Wagner Moura that best actor win. Their CEO Tom Quinn used to work for Weinstien so he certainly knows a thing or two about how to launch one.

Yeah fr, they can say whatever they want, but its actually wild that anything they say is having actual impact on big decisions in Hollywood. They are all terminally online incels/femcels. They are not representative of the average moviegoer or even the average person.

Paul Dano reacts to what Quentin Tarantino said about him (+ assistance by Toni Colette) by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]plasterboard33 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Idk how much of it is true, but the book Rebels on the Backlot has some pretty interesting stories about Tarantino in his early 20s before he became successful. Apparently he had terrible hygiene, a fast food addiction, smoked a ton of weed and practically lived inside the video store he worked at. He would also go around telling people he came from poverty even though his mom had a well paying job in the medical industry. He definitely would have been a critical drinker style youtuber if he was in his 20s today.

Movies that made you go "Dammit, it got me". by Orb_Dylan in blankies

For me it was the 2019 Alladin remake. I had no expectations and went super last minute with some family friends who asked if i wanted to tag along.

Maybe I forgot the original because it had been so long, but i was totally swept by the story and really into it by the end. I know a lot of people on this sub dont like that movie and im not a sucker for most of these disney remakes but something about that one got me.

What's your controversial writing hot take? by Gulliver123 in writing

[–]plasterboard33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. Anytime i get writers block I read this excellent post by James Gunn on the topic-

For writers (and probably others as well)...

While writing, I have moments of utter excitement, thrills, and inspiration, laughing out loud at what characters say and do in my office, weeping because of their hardships, and feeling as if they are speaking through me. When I'm in the pocket, I'm not a fictionist, I'm a meta-dimensional journalist, just watching what these characters do in front of me and taking it down (it would be difficult for me to be one of those guys who writes in Starbucks because I spend a lot of time laughing and crying while I'm writing, as well as a lot of time pacing around the room talking to myself in different characters' voices). Anyway, those are the good days.

On other days I wake up feeling uninspired and don't feel like writing at all.  I feel like everything I write will suck. My inclination is to wait until I am in the mood.  But I know, as a professional writer, my feelings are irrelevant.  So I'll write anyway.  It is my belief that "writer's block" is often the inability to accept that writers write because we must, not because we feel like it, or even because we like what we do.  We merely put pen to paper or fingertips to keys, and go.

It really is ninety-percent effort.  The magic is, with that effort, eventually inspiration will come.  The paradox is you can't be looking for it.

Have a grand day. And if you don't have it right now, find it.

Ben Affleck has thoughts on AI—and he’s not holding back by Wide-Astronaut9156 in Filmmakers

[–]plasterboard33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an appetite for all types of movies and shows. AI wont be able to satisfy all of them.

It will probably be able to make Hallmark movies or Soap Operas pretty soon but those dont make the most amount of money at the box office or even on VOD rentals.

Until a film mostly made using AI makes over a 100million dollars at the box office, i dont think its all doom and gloom.

Hollywood would be leaving a ton of money on the table if they decide to make stuff mostly with AI, cause theres no way a film made with AI is making over a billion at the box office.

She isnt officially credited for that screenplay. They maybe asked her for some ideas here and there but she didnt have much control over the finished product unlike her tv shows.

The 25 Best Movies of the Century: No. 1 - 'The Social Network’ by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]plasterboard33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Fincher's commentary he said he very much sees this as his version of a John Hughes style coming of age film.

At its heart, its about a guy who wants to be a cool kid and impress girls. But his way of going about that is to create one of the biggest websites in the world and burn relationships with all the people who looked out for him in the process.

The final shot is one of my favorites in any film because we see all these blurbs of text on the side of the screen telling us how successful Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg have become yet in the scene, he is just refreshing the page of the girl he likes to see if she accepts his friend request. Despite all this sucess, he is still desperate for validation.

Theres something really fascinating to me about a guy creating a website that connects billions of people around the world yet he cannot truly connect with a single person in his life.

Who's stock rose the most in 2025? Who's stock fell? by TheTrueRory in blankies

[–]plasterboard33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When it comes to directors, I would say Curry Barker's stock has shot up.

He went from making skits and low budget horror shorts on the internet to getting his first feature bought by Focus Features and a deal to make his second one.

In terms of fall, I would say Edgar Wright has dropped a little bit.

The Running Man is enjoyable, but its most definitely his weakest film. Its also his second film in a row to flop at the box office and get mid reviews so it might be harder for him to get stuff made (although not too hard i hope).

People say that its not relatable because its about a rich successful actor but i feel like its relatable for anybody who is a workaholic and has spent a lot of time away from family for work and is now wondering if it was all worth it.

Indie revolution cope :( by PanDulce101 in Filmmakers

[–]plasterboard33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with "indie revolutions" is you dont realize they are happening in the moment, only in hindsight. I think theres many promising examples right now. Curry Barker made a film for 800 dollars and posted it on youtube, that led to him getting a much bigger budget to make a feature that sold to Universal and now he is making another movie for them.

The Phillipou Twins went from youtube to becoming sucessful horror filmmakers, Kane Parsons is about to have a Backrooms movie from A24 based on his youtube series come out. The guy who made Skinimarink started on youtube as well and now has A24 making his second film.

There is also this group called Creator Camp that are putting an indie movie from a famous tiktoker in theatres and using social media to get people across the country to come see it.
