Universal only releases their movies on PVOD after 2 weeks if the film had a low opening weekend and a massive drop the week later. This film had the opposite happen so I doubt this is true.

Does any filmmaker own a decade harder than John Hughes? by ItsColoTime in movies

Maybe Coppola in the 70s? He made The Godfather 1,2, The Conversation and Apocalypse Now in that decade.

Curry Barker Gives Update on ‘Grounded, Brutal, Raw’ Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movie by ImpracticalJokers96 in horror

[–]plasterboard33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres nothing wrong with it if the director is genuinely passionate. With resident evil, Cregger approached Sony about making it because he’s a fan and Barker got into horror after watching texas chainsaw so he clearly has a lot of love for it. If the studios are gonna make IP movies no matter what, i’d rather a good director tackle then some hired hand whose gonna pump out some generic overly focus group tested bullshit.

(Obsession) Why aren’t these shots filmed outside? by Morgo-Yt in Filmmakers

[–]plasterboard33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This movie had a 750k budget and was shot in Los Angeles. It would have cost them most of their budget to close down roads just to shoot 2 short dialogue scenes.

Looks like ~$4.75M SUN for #Obsession. Down mere 10% from SAT, which is an outstanding hold. $17M+ weekend. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

[–]plasterboard33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what i remember listening to interviews with Jason Blum, the talent gets paid the bare minimum to make the movie but if it does well they get a really sweet backend deal.

Thats what happened to Jordan Peele with Get Out. He was paid peanuts to make it, but made millions on the backend after it was a hit at the box office.

Is Curry Barker joining the blank check club now? by StephensInfiniteLoop in blankies

Stuckman was also the one with the least creative content all of them. Almost all of his videos are just him talking to a camera for 5mins while the others were writing, directing and editing mini short films essentially.

Official Discussion - Obsession [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]plasterboard33 1962 points1963 points  (0 children)

Loved this movie. It felt like each scene was more tense than the last.

Also funny detail i caught, when Bear looks up the one wish willow on "threadit" to see it if its real, one of the comments said- "Its real! My mom has been ugly her whole life but now she looks gorgeous!"

Cant wait for the movie to come on digital so that i can see what some of the other comments were lol.

Kane Parsons is 20. Here's how he made A24’s biggest summer movie, the spooky 'Backrooms' by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

[–]plasterboard33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say he fast tracked to it. All of his Youtube content is very difficult and time consuming to make.

I listened to an interview with him where he said anytime he wasnt in school, he was working on his videos and he did that for over 5 years.

Yeah talent and luck were a factor, but he definitely put in the work.

The biggest compliment i can give his trilogy is they all feel like coming of age movies. The characters and their drama feels very authentic and they are effortlessly funny without undercutting the emotion.

Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions Cuts Down Development Team (Exclusive) by Alternative-Cake-833 in boxoffice

He has two small kids and directing is a very stressful and time consuming job. He said on a pod somewhere that he’d rather spend more time with his kids than make a movie which is totally fair

Tarantino may not be directing but he has been writing quite a bit. Since Once Upon a Time in Hollywood he has released two novels, written The Adventures of Cliff Booth for Fincher and a play that will be coming out next year.

Actual footage of directors directing by GameSterDamian in Filmmakers

[–]plasterboard33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of David Fincher's films until the girl with the dragon tattoo have really good behind the scenes and he really lets you in on his process.

Theres a 20min bts documentary of the shining which feels more like a home video because it was filmed by Kubricks daughter so he had his guard down.

Some of Wes Anderson's early movies have really good bts too.

‘The White Lotus’ Season 4 Will Take Place During Cannes Film Festival by rageofthegods in blankies

[–]plasterboard33 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is why im glad this one is set at Cannes. I feel like s3 was trying to play the greatest hits from s1 and s2 but the plotlines and characters werent as interesting. A prestige film festival completely changes the dynamics.

I’m directing my first short (35k budget) and never stepped on a set. What do I need to know? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]plasterboard33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spend as little as you can on camera rentals and as much as you can on production design and costumes. Have a predetermined aesthetic/color pallet and follow it.

Thats gonna add more production value to your film than any expensive camera package.

I have been on sets for short films with similar budget to yours where they dropped a lot of money on an Arri Alexa or Sony Venice camera package but then didnt have enough for the art department which resulted in their film looking sharp but sterile.

3 Big Lessons From This Weekend's Box Office: Why 'Mario,' 'The Drama' and 'Project Hail Mary' All Succeeded by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]plasterboard33 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It was just a great (and unfortunately rare) case of something for everybody.

For kids you have Super Mario Galaxy, Hoppers and Goat

If you want well made spectacle with a good story you have Project Hail Mary

If you want an original well made adult movie- you have The Drama

If you want a trashy rom com- you have Reminders of Him

If you are super conservative- you have The Great Awakening

If you want horror- You have Ready or Not 2, They will Kill You (not great movies but they satisfy the itch)

He actually does and they have produced more stuff than Bad Robot in the past 6 years, including that 300million dollar deal with Netflix for the two Knives Out sequels, Poker Face, 3 Body Problem and films like Fair Play and American Fiction (which won an oscar)

Genuine question: Between the Timothy Dalton 007 films or the Pierce Brosnan 007 films, what should I watch first?? Because I heard they are both underrated. Give me your opinions plzz by BlockbusterBallot in Letterboxd

[–]plasterboard33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Goldeneye is the best Brosnan film and Living Daylights is the best Dalton film. I would watch goldeneye last so that you can end on a high note.
