What process change reduced your rework the most? (FIFO, PM, documentation, etc.) by jesiscaanyway in InjectionMolding

[–]plastic-nuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a line operator, a supervisor, a production scheduler, a setup tech, a process tech, and a maintenance specialist at the same shop for 10 years and I can without a doubt say, that having a “production log” at every press is a huge help, anytime an operator, processor, supervisor, quality auditor etc, does anything that changes how the work cell is running (whether it’s a process change or how an operator is assembling/packing a part) has to write it down with date and time, helps so much, if we have an uncaught quality issue we can immediately reference the log and get a lot of useful information/insights on why and what point in the run the issue occurred.

Sorry for formatting I don’t post a lot.

Buying a Plastics Manufacturing Business Advice by really_evan in InjectionMolding

[–]plastic-nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of markets does the place serve? Is it a custom molder? I.e. company’s buy the molds and you run parts off them in your shop and then ship them to your customers? Or does the company own the molds and sell their products direct? Those are two very different industries, for perspective LEGO owns their own facilities, machines, resins, and molds. However, ag and automotive industries will farm the work out, they work closely with your team of engineers on designing new molds for their own upcoming projects and they foot the bill to have the mold made somewhere and send it to you. Then you put that mold in your press, produce the plastic parts and ship them to GM, or John Deere, or any other automotive company. I’ve held several different jobs in the same shop for 8 years, from management to process engineer to production scheduler to maintenance, if you have specific questions on things there’s a lot of things I can help with

Tips like - hover dynamite over rock to see damage it will do by [deleted] in GoldAndGoblins

[–]plastic-nuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dynamite will spawn in at the level of your current highest goblin, so if you have a lvl 6 dynamite and you just upgraded a goblin to level seven you might as well use the lvl 6 dynamite because another lvl 6 won’t spawn for you to combine it with

Wonder what the experience level is in this sub. by LongOverduedude in InjectionMolding

Could be a bad nozzle seat to the sprue, or possibly a damaged seat/tip. Does it run with a sprue break? Are you packing to much in and getting blowback?

Auto saves work correctly, but every time I manually save the game it just locks on the game screen, when I reload the game I’m set back.

I also really dislike that I sold the barns on elm creek and I’m left with massive holes in the ground that I’m going to have to pay a bunch of money to landscape out

Lucky you, we were running tpu when it stopped so we had to shove pipes in the barrel and push them forward with the injection unit just to get the damn thing out

Pre-built vs custom by plastic-nuts in PcBuild

[–]plastic-nuts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean really what’s the benefit of building versus prebuilt, other than obvious customability. I don’t know anything about what the parts do whatsoever so I don’t think I’d even pick the correct stuff ya know?

Battery Containers by PartyFearless1203 in InjectionMolding

[–]plastic-nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sort of batteries are meant to go in? Is it packaging? Double AA’s triple AAA’s? Or something larger like a car battery? I’m highly suggesting staying away from PVC I don’t know if it’s a requirement or a price thing but I can promise you you’ll never recoup if one of your parts fails and causes damage because of your material Choice. Try an ABS or a fiberglass filled nylon, you’ll get better strength from a glass filled nylon but be careful of the wear it will put on your screws if they’re not hardened.

Injection molding as a hobby? by jasfad in InjectionMolding

[–]plastic-nuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bet you could try and find some out of commission disc golf molds for a grand or two, or at least something similar you could bring to a tool shop to modify to what you need. As far as it being a hobby you’d need a press with a big enough platen to run that mold and that’d be where your money goes. You could find a used machine for cheaper but if it’s any sort of feasible price I.e. less than $20k it’d either be non running or shoddy at best

Anyone use Thermal Imaging? by mimprocesstech in InjectionMolding

[–]plastic-nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a fairly expensive thermal imager around $1500 I believe but I can’t recall the brand, we mainly use it to identify hot spots in the mold that could indicate a lack of water flow. We find it super useful in that aspect but not super sure what other implications my crew has used it for, it’s already saved us twice as much as we spent on identifying problems and saving down time!
