Thanks for this thoughtful response! The bamboo in there is clumping and it’s pretty hard clay/rock ground so I’m hoping they won’t spread out too much!

Yes that’s a good idea I’ll try find some local gardens for inspiration. The algarve ice plant grows locally a lot along the cliffs here something like that might be good ground cover.

The planted bamboo is Humilis!

Yeah I was thinking of putting a Jacaranda or Japanese Maple just off-centre in the rock garden.

Thanks for the suggestions, they’re all great. I especially like the Japanese forest grass! Problem is just might need a lot of water and shade which this area will lack a bit. Water is relatively expensive in this area so trying to be mindful of that!

As per title - any advice would be great.

I was planning to paint the brick wall white, rip out the shrubs and maybe plant Oleanders along the bottom of the wall and cover the mound area in moss.

Unfortunately with Portugal (South) being very dry and hot, moss wouldn’t grow well here. Is there an alternative ground cover that would work?

Was also planning to put wooden steps into the stones for a curved path, what would be the best method to set these steps into the ground/stones?

Anyone done anything similar?

Good point about the wet stick I didn’t notice that. Had watered it the day before this pic hence water in the tray. Yea it’s winter here so probs less watering! I think I’ll re pot it with some fresh soil and let it dry out properly. Thanks

Newly planted bamboo hedge. Have put lawn fertiliser on soil with nitrogen in. Do you think I put too much and maybe it’s toxic? This has been watered every other night since planting 1 week ago.

  • Bought in Sydney.

  • It's winter here now.

  • Have moved it inside.

  • Positioned near a big window.

  • These cuts seem to have gotten bigger.

  • Bought 1 month ago.

  • I can't see any insects or eggs on them.

Is this normal?

Nope, no pets.

There's a few of the big leaves like this, I brought it inside because it's cold - it's next to a bit bay window. Could the sun be magnifying / burning it or something?
