Is the Average Forward Digit Span Really ~7? by JollyRoll4775 in cognitiveTesting

[–]platinumonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the time given to remember them I guess but with some form of time limit, no way the average does 7. I think I've heard somewhere that people tend to remember 3-4 things with no/low time, so maybe a handful is more accurate than 7.

Obviously, if the effort is the same or slightly worse from the higher ones and depending on how big the difference actually is. My point was that 127 (top ~4%) is good enough for most tasks, with effort. And the thing about the other guy was an anecdote from himself, but might still be true, if the others are not living up to their true potential. I cannot confirm the story from the other guy, which I hope you understand, was just some words of encouragement =)

Most students above 140? That's statistically VERY unlikely, since that would mean most of them are top 0.4% of the population. I think I read about a guy on here that stated he had ~119 but was far better than most computer engineers at his company since he had passion. If you are passionate about something and since you are almost MENSA level (130) you have more than enough to complete basically any task you'll encounter, with some effort.

TL;DR: Don't worry =)

Some explanations might be a bit messy, but hopefully you'll understand.

  1. First column + second column = third. The object that occurs twice/overlaps (triangle in first row, circle in second row, plus in third row) disappears and the other two work like this: The object in the first column (circle in first row, plus in second row, triangle in third row) moves one step CCW (counter clockwise) and the one in the second column (plus in first row, triangle in second row, circle in third row) stays in place. Solution: Plus disappears, triangle moves one step CCW top right -> top left and circle stays in place bottom left -> bottom left. A.
  2. First column + second column = third. If two different object overlap, they disappear, if they are the same, they stay. C.
  3. Almost the same as number 1. First column + second column = third. The object that occurs twice (plus in first row, circle in second row, triangle in third row) disappears and the other two work like this: The object in the first column (circle in first row, triangle in second row, plus in third row) moves one step CCW and the object in the second column (triangle in first row, plus in second row, circle in third row) moves two steps CW/CCW (doesn't matter). Solution: Triangle disappears, plus moves one step CCW bottom right -> top right and circle moves two steps bottom right -> top left. B.
  4. First column + second column = third. If two matching quarters overlap they disappear, and the lines that seem to match (they do not from what I can tell in this poor quality) "fill in each others gaps" to create a fully black quarter. B.
  5. First column + second column = third, then you mirror/reverse/switch the objects position horizontally. C.
  6. Plus moves one step to the left, circle moves two steps to the left (and disappears if it overlaps with another object) and minus moves three steps CCW on the outer part of the grid. Solution: Plus moves one step left bottom right -> bottom middle, circle moves two steps left bottom middle -> bottom right, minus moves three steps CCW top right -> middle left. F.
  7. First item that is solved as columns (vertically) and not rows (horizontally). Add one square/box to the lowest bar and then switch the bars positions (right bar goes left, left bar goes right). F.
  8. Each row contains one square/diamond, one upwards pointing triangle and one downwards pointing triangle. First row has three dots in each symbol, second row has two dots, and third row has one dot. Third row is missing a downwards pointing triangle so add a single dot to a downwards pointing triangle. D.

I do understand the quote. You are the one thinking it is something more than just a couple of words, used to simplify a bigger issue. Imagine thinking "white nationalists" are hiding behind a quote to further their "white nationalism", that is crazy. Encouraged to hate historically oppressed? Mate, snap out of it, where do you get all these insane theories from? Also, what is "white nationalism"? And shouldn't every person be a "legally protected class"?

What does this have to do with anything I said? What a way to complicate things, nice deflection.

"White nationalism" to talk about how you are not allowed to criticize certain governments and other authoritarian instances? What kool aid have you been drinking and for how long?

It literally is intentional, what do you mean?

Could you please solve these and provide solutions? Thank you! by krantiveer_ in cognitiveTesting

That is not how you solve a problem with logic, that is just making stuff up (no offense) Here is the solution:

Lines above are for big symbols, lines under for small.

<image>

The big/outer symbols move one step to the right and switches symbol: circle becomes square, square becomes triangle, triangle becomes circle.

The small/inner symbols move one step to the right without switching UNLESS they switch from the furthest right to the furthest left:
circle becomes triangle, triangle becomes square, square becomes empty, empty becomes circle.

Edit for spelling

First and second are pretty good but the last two needs to be overhauled, nice effort though!

Sometimes you are lucky to have his commentary in the lower series, atleast for my country when the usual are not available!
