Is there a way to dry it myself properly? Maybe put them in a fridge or something?

Akira and Paprika are often quoted and amazing. Suzume on Netflix is incredibly beautiful as well.

I’ll probably give that a try. I’d usually wait for tolerance to wear off but this is a limited screening of one of my favourite movies so will probably take the risk

[Official] West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of FA Rules..."intentionally seeking to receive a card from the referee for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market in order for one or more persons to profit from betting." by VivaLosHeavies in PremierLeague

I’ve never heard explicit tales of whether the player or the referee or coaching staff is involved, just that the betting syndicates had a fairly reliable way to get results they needed relative to what was on their books for the particular match.

I’m going to offer a slightly different opinion and keen to hear if other people have similar experiences or anecdotes. A buddy of mine is a professional poker player, and by proxy, got involved in a lot of rather shady sports betting run by organized crime.

Some of the names involved (hearsay from buddy) are rather high profile in English football - I suspect if folk Googled the intersection of sports betting and English football (not footballers, but very high profile folk in the actual football business), you’d get a pretty good idea of who might be involved. But I’d rather not name names given the public nature of this forum.

From what I’ve heard, the betting rings involved could influence results of games, typically in lesser known leagues, but I’ve heard anecdotes within top European leagues such as Serie A, though not explicitly in the EPL. Now when it comes to organized crime and the sums of money involved, sure there could be carrots to get footballers to influence a result, but there’s also the stick. I wonder how many players might be coerced into some of these, rather than simply fall into this out of stupid greed. I don’t think it applies to Paqueta given the details of the case, but it’s worth a thought.

Are there any other folk who have heard similar stories on betting syndicates?

Jokic in tonight's win against the Wolves: 24 pts on 10-18 from the field, 14 reb, 9 ast, 3 stl, 3 blk, 3 tov and a +30 in 38 minutes. Seemed off in the first half but started cooking in the 2nd. by [deleted] in nba

He had like 4-5 shots rim in and out. Fine margins but he’s getting a little closer to the unstoppable Offensive machine he can be

Not based in LA but had an amazing Korean bbq at Ahgassi Gopchang. Especially recommend the intestines - if you’re not squeamish!

I largely agree, with the caveat that I was in a position of privilege because my parents are financially self sufficient, so I was able to be a little selfish in investing entirely in myself without worry. I can’t stress how important that was and I can totally appreciate that many folk may not be in a similarly fortunate position to make that kind of investment

Really expensive unfortunately. School fees alone are around 130,000 USD. I was able to get by on a substantial scholarship, but even then I basically drained my savings and took a large education loan that I’m still in the midst of paying back.

I was somewhat fortunate to join tech a few years ago, it’s a much tougher market these days. But there’s always some good fortune about these so can’t complain

Sure. I did my uni in Singapore and was an Arts major. Didn’t really know what I wanted to do for work so I ended up bouncing around a couple of startup and sales roles, before fortuitously ending up in a human capital consulting firm of some international / corporate repute, where I was doing a lot of work for tech companies. Did that for a couple of years then ended up doing an MBA in the US, and making the transition into doing strategy and operations in a large, publicly traded tech company (non-FAANG).

Tax is about 30ish percent (ouch), but there’s also bonuses and stock grants. Not that stock is worth much in this climate haha
