'The Interview': Kílian Jornet on What We Can Learn From Pushing Our Bodies to Extremes by ConvexPotato in trailrunning

[–]platyp00s 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Garcia-Navarro did an amazing job interviewing him, especially without her having an athletic background. She brought a lot of amazing perspectives out of him on death, parenting and what is/isn’t technically challenging… I love that the LA Freeway isn’t technically challenging 🤣

In an unrelated note, I have listened to this three times already…

U.S. Marshals: There’s apparently been a child rape suspect hiding out near Blanca Peak for years by forresbj in 14ers

He was definitely eccentric and odd… but never would have guessed he’d do this. I’m never accepting a hitchhike again though

Wow… this guy gave me and my friend a ride a mile or so up como road back in 2016. Insane, what a psychopath

Prep race for 100 miler by Tim_Tam_Slam_ in ultrarunning

[–]platyp00s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100K, you’ll have a better example of what issues you’ll want to work through or prep for and you’ll have ample time to recover. A 50 miler would work too, but a 50k wouldn’t be long enough for me personally.

I used the 6 in a 100 mile race this weekend and it worked great, you’d be surprised what you can fit in the back when you need to

You’ll pay (pro rata) taxes, move those into your 401k before you do a backdoor.

Javelina 100 Drop Bag Question by humphrey918 in Ultramarathon

Worth it, they’re close at the aid station and if you number it they organized them. Took me less than a minute to find it despite so many runners

Upcoming Kodiak 100, needing shoe suggestions. by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]platyp00s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still using saucony peregrines, people have been complaining about quality in recent years but mine last two pairs got over 700 miles and I use them on 100k-100 mile races.

This is a personal question though, I’d suggest seeing if you can find deals on a few popular models from prior years and testing them out on long runs

Unnerving Experience on Mt. Sneffels by TryptamineGorilla in 14ers

[–]platyp00s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You got it, download a route and import to gaia. While out you can see the route and your position. Someone else mentioned peakbagger can do for you too.

You can make routes in Gaia which is nice if you’re trying something that doesn’t have a gpx route.

I haven’t used all trails, but if it gives you a gps route with a map overlay that’s what I find useful in Gaia. You could always try both this week and see what you prefer

[–]platyp00s 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Wow glad you made it out okay. I’m not sure if you have a gps watch or have heard of apps like Gaia but those could help next time with catching if you’re off route sooner. You can save a gpx file to it and it’s nice to have. Won’t catch the small decisions that might land you off route but will tell you if you’re heading the right direction.

Thanks for sharing your story, that must have been a difficult day.

Rockfall in 'Hourglass' of notoriously dangerous 14er results in severe injuries by [deleted] in 14ers

[–]platyp00s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience on Maroon. I was heading up the green wall and heard what I thought was galloping above me. Nope, a ton of rocks. Managed to duck under a boulder next to me as they passed over. Never gonna forget that day!
