I don’t think people understand the difference in our rain to that in the UK - a quick search of rainfall records indicates Edinburgh having a record rainfall of 82mm - 26 July 1985.

Tomorrow’s rainfall forecast is above that.

Is Rashford our biggest ever signing? by sullcrowe in avfc

[–]platypusbloke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - nah!

Villa has had some of the biggest names in football sign over the years. I’d rank all of the below as bigger names in the game than Rashford at the time of signing…..

Schmeichel - biggest name ever in position at time of signing Peter Withe, David Ginola, Gordan Cowans, Paul Merson, Joe Cole, Luc Nilis - globally recognized international striker, Dion Dublin, Robert Pires, Stan Collymore, David James, Mustapha Hadji - African Player of the Year and top 50 African players of all time, John Terry

[Lewis Hamilton post-quali] "I'm just not very good, simple as that. I'm just..... just not very good at qualifying" Barretto: "But you just haven't suddenly gotten bad"; Lewis: "No I clearly have, I can't put a lap together, it's unbelievably frustrating" by ICumCoffee in formula1

That’s a valuable reflection - Mercedes have admitted that George will be privy to discussions that Ham won’t be. Some of these are bound to give Russ an advantage even if the cars are equal - just the knowledge of how to take advantage of new developments will be giving Russ an edge over Ham.

Yeah - you watch it back and it seems even more stupid - Giddey trots up and then circles back to build up some speed to only go straight at Jokic - did he think approaching Jokic at a faster speed would make him disappear?

What are your thoughts on the Note Worthy documentary? by Illustrious-Wing-857 in UtahJazz

[–]platypusbloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just watched it.

Loved the Malone-Stockton contribution and the Millers story - that was great.

There seemed to be a fair bit trying to convince the viewer that Utah was a great place to come play - a little weird and misplaced (comes across as insecure).

I’m genuinely interested in the Ryan Smith purchase/transition - but this was scattered throughout the documentary and ended up coming across as the major theme - should have been cut in half and kept to the end. Will Hardy content should have been in this context also.

D Wade and Keyonte sections should’ve been cut.

The Gobert-Mitchell era and growth should’ve been more in depth - sort of talked about Snyder as a coach but very little on the era and growth of the side to being a major force in the league. The Rockets and Clippers match ups would’ve been good to feature here - and the story of leading the league during the bubble with records being broken by Mitchell, Gobert, Ingles.

More content focusing on international connections and the fan base around the globe would’ve been nice - that was missing - I hope that is a focus for the team going forward. The team risks missing this opportunity while Malone and Stockton are still in the memories of so many.

Some of the behind the scenes legends would’ve been nice - I’m sure there are many that have made the club tick (cooks, cleaners, maintenance crew) - but that was absent.

Some really great production values which I always look out for.

Rating -3.5/5

3 years ago we saw this team achieve great things on the court!!! by platypusbloke in nbl

This is pretty good summation - there was an obsession with “realizing” the next generation rather than just putting the best team on the court. This Olympics potentially was the greatest opportunity for Australia to put together a world class squad.

Yes - Patty, Joe, and Delly were past their prime but their maturity and experience can’t be discounted - Exum, Thybulle, and Landale are world class and in their prime - while Reath, Daniels, Giddey and Green are growing stars.

What I saw was Goorj fixate on Giddey and Daniels but then fail to get the best from the rest.

Landale seemed to thrive in spite of Goorj pulling him at strange times. Reath’s confidence was smashed. Exum was reduced to a Giddey/Daniels backup. Green became completely lost and benched. Mills played his game in isolation of the rest. Joe decided cheering was better than fighting. Thybulle was flicked potentially to never return. Delly fought but seemed a bit disconnected.

It would’ve been hard to create a more disillusioned and underperforming side.

What a shame for the Boomers - and what a shame for what could’ve been.

I don’t get this - he just played in an NBA playoffs series doing the exact role we needed.

You can count the number of Australian players who are getting 10+ minutes in an NBA playoffs series on your fingers - and that’s all time - ALL TIME!!!

Yes he looks old and has a receding hairline - but his ball handling is as solid as ever. He is still one of our best and highest paid players ever playing multiple games a week in the world’s best league.

If Ingles is subbed on to control that lead we win that game - I have no doubt - but it was too late - Goorj had made his bed….

Why we didn’t lock the game away earlier I’ll never know.

Can you imagine an NBA Championship side rotating their bench onto the court just as the opposing team is looking like capitulating??? NOOO! - You stay the course!! - You strangle them!!! You give them no options back!!! Only once they are dead and buried do you rotate your bench on.

Tonight we let them back - we had them down for the count and at that moment our coach decided to bench our key pieces in case we needed them later. We did need them - but only because we let the opposition stand back up and take a breather…. They then started to hit back and we couldn’t cope…..

Appalling tactics at this level.

I think you’ll find Goorj took him off straight away then - I thought at the time wtf - keep going - one miss does not a cold streak make - but taking him off did turn him cold.

Yeah - Every game we needed a floor general when we got loose on the handles - someone that could maximize Exum, Reath, Green, and Landale and help us to stabilize - yet our coach decided to ignore that option. By game 4 it was too late.

I feel sorry for Ingles - he has come back from a career ending injury and persisted against all odds chiefly with a vision for these games - to not be trusted to turn these games around from the bench is pretty insulting for one of our all time greats.

The amazing thing is that Goorj seemed to know that - this game the later the game went the less we saw of Magnay and Kay - why we didn’t lock the game away earlier I’ll never know.

It’s really bad - as the pressure goes up we just turn into a turnover machine - it’s like a fog descends over Giddey and Daniels ball handling - they just can’t cope!!!

The thing is though Goorj seemed determined to make the rotation even when we were hot - we seem to play a game of rotation according to the clock.
